The penalty against Brazil was not soft at all, there's an angle that was not on the TV cameras that show the defender pulling him, someone standing behind the goal caught it on camera. Before the picture/video was released there was a massive uproar over that penalty. FifaTV has a video about it on their youtube channel with an interview with the referee: ua-cam.com/video/7-lNODXuA6k/v-deo.html
Thanks, I never saw this when making the video, I only watched the match where none of the TV pictures show the tug on the Jersey. Clear penalty as the man says.
It’s a myth that he was an flop at Rangers. Yes we paid £12 million for him but he scored 40 goals in 64 games and we sold him for £8 million. This video would never have been made if he’d only cost us £4million. Peoples opinions on him are unfairly clouded by his price tag rather than his stats
@jaywalkercrew4446 if they moved it would be different. The risk/reward is that there is more reward money for finishing 17th in England than winning in Scotland.
Flonaldo! He's chelsea's answer to our Ole back in the day. Love the lad, contrary to most commentators were saying of him,i found his playstyle really silky and pleasing to see, for a targetman of his size.
@@iandawe948 Still top 4 club & so to be called a joke shows just how much higher the standards at Chelsea have been compared to the likes of Arsenal, Spurs, Man utd.
Tore André Flo might have played for both of my most hated clubs, Rangers and Sunderland, but he has my eternal respect for being an overpriced flop at both of them. What a guy.
I think it's more the expectations that was put on Flo that made it appear he was a flop. We were told we're making a massive signing, over £10mil which at the time was huge for us. The excitement was unreal. We thought we were signing a world class striker and got Flo instead. Nothing bad about that but the board bigged it up to be a huge signing and our next Ally McCoist. What we got was a decent striker that could never live up to such high expectations..
I get it, he was expensive, but scored against that mob and scored over 20 goals both seasons, so not a flop for me, plus he was a right classy player.
11:32 It's been a big discussion in Norway forever with people wanting to know if he was diving but Tore always been clear on it being a foul. Later there was released still photos from someone behind the goal capturing Baiano clearly dragging him by his shirt, just unfortinunate the video footage never captured what the referee called.

A 32min documentary on Flo was something I wasn’t expecting .. But we’ll worth a watch .. it must take an unholy amount of time to get all the clips & stats..
Funny, I always thought Flo was first pick at Chelsea, and scored a lot more goals there (he always seemed to be scoring when a Chelsea game was on TV). He was signed because Celtic paid 6 million for Chelsea flop Sutton, so Murray's mantra of "when Celtic spend a fiver, we'll spend a tenner" meant he had to sign a Chelsea star player for 12 million as an extra dig. What they didn't check was Sutton had been a key player in a championship winning team, and a top scorer.
Peter Reid was a great manager for Sunderland but unfortunately his time as manager crossed the era of modern management and he could not adapt. The transfer of Flo is a clear advertisement of that fact.
Yes, man. This is what we need, a channel of ballads for the not-so-noteworthy. Tonnes of people talk about the underappreciated guys, Okocha, Nakata, Recoba, but there is an untapped well of stories of the guys not quite world breaking. Flo, Mostovoi, Mondragon and, someday, Arnautovic.
I always used to buy him on FIFA 05-08. Great childhood memories. Even though I'd never really seen him play, I always found him a remarkable player. Great video! Subbed :)
Flo was fantastic for Chelsea and his record would have been alot better if he wasn't in a queue behind Hughes, Vialli and Zola, Zola was a revelation at the club, I would argue that Hughes played some of his best football in an incredible career and Vialli was old but truly world class and became a club legend for his personality and pragmatism on the pitch. Not an easy place to command a starting place! The fans loved Flo for his work ethic and reliability but he was never going to break into a regular starting place while those guys were playing. That team is my favorite Chelsea team of all time and Flo was an important part of it.
Championship Manager 97/98's player database was a wacky beast, but they got the stats right on Flo. Sign him in the first season and he's a goal hungry monster before you know it.
Something that wasn't mentioned in the video was that Rangers won the treble in 2002/03, which was the season that followed after Flo had left for Sunderland in August 2002 💙 Things like that always stick out in people's mind; Flo left and then we immediately won everything 🏆
Good video. Well put together. I feel the title is a little unfair. He was a good player anywhere he played. I'm a Spurs fan and still remember what he did against us, lol. Respectfully of course. Wish him all the best for the future.
Vialli went out of his way to ruin Flo's time at Chelsea. Incredible patience by him, tho. Many other players would have left immediately after the Pierluigi signing.
A perfect example of how an unfashionable worksman style player becomes overrated. It's not his fault he became overpriced like Torres and Andy Carroll.
The penalty against Brazil wasn't cheap. None of the camera-angles saw what the judge saw, so for most who saw the camera-pictures it looked cheap. There appeared some pictures in the papers which answered them: Flo's shirt was looking like a sail, as the defender did pull his shirt as Flo tried to get pass him.
Disagree. The league quality improved post Bosman. There’d be no English European winners in 1999 and beyond if we were still in those draconian rules.
"Despite limited success in the league"... oh.. dear.. you have no idea how happy that made me.. given that I support the club that had all the success in the league (21 wins in the last 34 seasons) when Flo was in Norway.
There's this perception in football that stringbean strikers dont fit in the team dynamics so well. Flo was a very good player, despite his apparent awkwardness. He Wasnt a flop, in my opinion...
To say that Flo was a flop at Rangers is completely wrong. And considering all the difficulties he went through there and perforned quite well. And he did achieve a lot even when not being the most elegant or skillful of all the forwards out there at that time but surely was effective. So, to me... I'd rather have a player who's not all tricks and magic but gets the job done by the end of the day.
Cup Winners Cup 2nd only to the European Cup?? The Cup that died in 1999. In 1996-97 3rd,4th & 5th went into the UEFA Cup(plus FA Cup winner) 6th(Chelsea) went into the Cup Winners Cup!
The UEFA cup increased in prestige, but the cup winners cup was originally held in higher regard. Hence the winners of it facing the winner of the European cup in the super cup.
Good video, but I have to say the bit about Everton having a deadline bid turned down by Flo isn't correct. Everton agreed a deal for Flo, but Brann wanted to include another player in the deal. Peter Johnson wouldn't sanction the deal, and Joe Royle left shortly after as Everton manager..
I feel that the truth of that deadline day debacle remains a bit of a mystery. I got the information about Flo rejecting the offer from here: www.toffeeweb.com/history/pages/royleres.php
Not Flo's fault if Rangers overpaid him and the team was a poorly put together group of players (with much bigger flops than him). The big misunderstanding was expecting him to be a One-Man-Show as if he were the actual Ronaldo. As good as Tore was, he still needed a competent setup around him to be devastating. Otherwise he was "just" a low double-digits striker. BTW, I met him last summer in Sogndal, a really nice guy. By far the chillest and best interaction I've ever had with a pro. And in Norwegian football he'd have every right to be a blowhard, considering he's like the 3rd best Norwegian player of his generation (and likely still Top5 ever).
Great video- Flo was a decent striker who could score goals but that fee was way too much even for early 2000s! Remember thinking this was a huge transfer for Scottish football back in the day, he definitely brought the goals but just not consistent and didn't fare particularly well in his later years either!
He might have been past his prime, but he was an International class striker, who won European trophies and scored vital goals on the world stage. By any standards he's had an excellent career.
I also think his goals to games ratio was good it's only because of who he was and the money we paid the the fucking media got on his case now it's the same with Dessers yes he should score but its his first season and his goal tally wasn't bad judge him this season coming

Flo was a brilliant striker. A great Chelsea team.
Shows how financially limited Scottish football is as he's still the most expensive signing 23 years later.
Or how badly Rangers were cheating to be able to 'afford' it.
It’s probably more down to clubs likely not wanting to take such a massive gamble with spending again after Flo’s spell at Rangers.
Tight.
