  • (This is the second version of this video, in the first version I didn't know which stabilizer is the original and which is a copy. However, from the latest information I got from Pedro at Cinemilled it seems that Cinema Devices has full rights to manufacture this equipment (zeeGee) while Falcon is its cheaper copy. So I will not recommend you to buy any of these devices but I will try to explain you how these equipment work )
Link to original unit - thezeegee.com/
In today's episode I'd like to show you two pretty interesting things that may be helpful on the set.
The first is a handheld mechanical gimbal, thanks to which operating even the largest cameras becomes a piece of cake. For this project we used the DJI ronin 4D camera in two configurations, as a fully handheld camera with a large and heavy zoom lens and with full 4 axis stabilization.
And the second thing is EcoFlow which is a power station that allows you to realize your creative shots in places without electricity.

Cool video however as a steadicam operator I feel like I need to re-enforce what Cinema Devices said in that email, the Falcon is a blatant knock off of Charles Paperts hard work and while I don’t know him personally I understand why he and a lot of operators in the industry are furious about the Falcon. Yes both kits are expensive however operators will make that money back fast in their kit fee and buying cheeper copies devalues kit in the industry which means our kit fees in turn have to go down, this is especially bad atm with rising costs of living. I know that Charles has put a lot of hard work into to ZeeGee and it’s important to support each other as operators instead of buying from companies who make their money by ripping off other peoples hard work. Laing also have a history of making products with cheeper and less durable materials, I’ve heard horror stories of parts snapping on their kit causing fatal breakages to their camera packages. This is because this company haven’t made a single original product, their stabilisers are reverse engineered Tiffen rigs with cheeper and weak materials. I tend to recommend Laing stabilisers to people wanting a cheep starter to practice with without spending £10,000 upwards but they are no good in a professional setting. I personally don’t mind the tilta 360 as it’s not a copy and in general you don’t get the same results with the same ease so it’s a good option for a starter handheld adapter whilst you save for a ZeeGee.
To sum up, although the Falcon is a cheeper option, it is a product born out of thievery and should never exist and has pretty much been completely shunned by the steadicam community

Yeah, I would love to see a video about these battery generators. having access to 2-3kwh would be extremely valuable as someone that both needs to run off their own power on distant locations and for commutes where I'm running a computer in a small car for really long data transfers on the road.

Hey Adam, I've carefully watched your series on stabilizers from the past couple years. These videos are extremely informative and helpful. I really like the results I've gotten using the RS3 Pro inside the Tilta Ring Grip, and I wanted to find a convenient way to support the ring to alleviate fatigue. I tried a two-armed solution (Proaim Hawk Lite) but HATED it. Now I'm going the steadicam route which will look a bit more like what you're doing here. It's taken a bit of time to figure out how to mate the ring grip onto the steadicam in a way that can be easily reversed (for purely handheld work), but I think I've finally figured it out. Thank you so much for all the fantastic work on these videos, they are extremely helpful.
EDIT: PS, there is a solution like this from Proaim/Flycam called the Flycam Equator, for about $1700, in case that makes it more worth it for some people.

Hiya. I can indeed confirm that I invented the ZeeGee and Cinema Devices is the manufacturer, the Laing product is as Pedro indicated a straight-up copy of our design, as can be seen when comparing both rigs, docks, etc. Hate for you to have to do a THIRD version of this video, but this is the confirmation you were looking for.

The problem with those western companies is that they put themselves right in line for the Chinese company to beat them. I mean this is the same story of that company that started gimbals tech and was about 8000 usd. Just after that the likes of DJI divided the price by 3 or 4x and nowadays you can ones at less than 300 usd. I am sure dji made 10x more money than that US company. I mean in todays world if you think you can still live for only hollywood production great. But don't be surprise if XYZ company won't democratize the system. I mean the BOM of this must be less than a 1000 usd. I am not diminishing the R&D and ingenious of the guy, but you could add $ 500 usd markup and sell 10x more. If else someone else will take your place.

Hey Bestboy! Could you recommend a simple yet stronger solution for mounting the back straps on the Thanos Pro X? I was practicing with mine the other week and when I took the vest off to put it away the rivet holding one of the back clip straps had broken off. Of course I could just replace the rivet and use a second washer on the backside but because the surface on the bottom side is curved, I don't know if that would fix it.
If you need some clarification I can send you an email with pictures I took.

Great reviews as always! What’s the bigger steadicam vest and arm you were using, not the Tilta Float vest? I’m in the market for a vest and arm combo, to use with my Ronin 3 Pro and RED Raptor. I think the float, and just the arm might be enough. I also like how the float you can attach the arm and bridge on the middle of your lower back, not just the belly area. I think the lower back is THE best place to apply the weight and pressure, because all that weight on the belly area pushes force inward on the belly, causing poor posture.

    Hey Adam,
Nice video and insight on this system. That's my view on the set-up : need an expensive steadicam vest / arm, you can't pull your own focus...
That why I own an easyrig with stabil arm, and my main stabilisation (mechanical) is a Gravity One by Flowcine. It requires a bit of practice but man, I love the feel of it. Downsides : no limited Roll movement, limiting height utilisation depending on the operator height. it feels so much better if the weight exceed 10kgs and is bottom heavy.
Feel free to contact me if you like to test it for a video, I'm based in Paris, France.

    • @grumpybunny

    • @PALALALALALALA
      @PALALALALALALA 2 роки тому +1

      @@grumpybunny
Would love to try it out, but let be straight forward about costs :
      Easyrig / Stabil : 5K$ + Used Gravity One : 1,7K$ = 6,7 let say 7K$ with some accessories and counterweights.
      = 7k$
Zeegee : between 6K + Steadicam System (ranging from 20K to 60k$) depending on the rig. But a minimum of 20K for a Smartsystem cappable of handling +10kgs camera systems.
      = 26 to 66k$
Not the same economy at all. You need to work on way higher budgets (steadicam rates) to justify this investements. To me it's an accessory to own if you are already working as a steadi op.

    • @chupap1
      @chupap1 2 роки тому

@@PALALALALALALA You are correct that this will be a more expensive setup than the one you are using. I designed the ZeeGee because of my frustration with overhead hanging rigs such as the Easyrig (this was before Flowcine came up with their excellent parts that mitigate many of the issues). However the ZeeGee is not just intended to be worn, it is a multi-function camera head that delivers the handheld look across in many configurations (please see the Hardmount video at thezee.com). Different tools.

Hi Adam - thanks so much for this video - really love what you do. Have a quick question- you mentioned using a normal gimbal (I have RS3 Pro) and just turning off motors.
Do you mean just turning off the gimbal functions completely and having the camera just rest in the center?
I am guessing you would need to ensure you have perfect balance for this option.
Would that work connected to a vest?
What connection point would you need if you just used your own gimbal with the steadiarm?
Would you be able to do a video on that kind of a setup?
I shoot a lot of action and I think this kind of a setup would be perfect for getting great handheld action shots while taking a lot of the weight off my arms and hands which get real sore after only a couple hours.
Thanks again - all the best to you and your family. 🙏🏻

interesting review of it, but one thing not mentioned, how does this compare with say a tilta armour man 1/2/3 system, same vest, but held from above, also using a dji ronin 2 as a mounting cage, as there are plenty of "Steadicam" priced solutions (inc. trinity), all of which mostly do the same thing [from a stability point of view].

Actually this happen in 2014 and I did the BETA test as well. this is the design took from two different companies. The Handle and the top cage design by Letus for their 1st Helix and Gimbal part, I do not remember the name of the company right-now (lol).

I designed and built three prototypes of the ZeeGee between 2009 and 2010, so, no.

@@chupap1 My fella', (respectfully) I wasn't talking about ZeeGee. It was the Helix 3rd axis with the leather handles, design by Letus for Steadicam arm (I still have it - lol)). And I am pretty sure this gyro concept isn't new rocket science (loL) No hard feeling, I have seen your prototype in my DVXuser days but it was't like this one.
