I love the Tom Hawkins Medal. The AFL should make this a real end of season award. In Ice Hockey the scoring race is exactly like this: goals plus assists = total scoring points. Yes, hockey assists can be primary or secondary, but the important principle is that an assist is worth 1 point, the same as a goal.
I'm glad someone is recognising Jeremy McGovern. The all australian selectors don't have a clue. McGovern and Waterman must be a lock for all australian. Please don't show your stupidity because you favour Top 8 teams.
@@trikkimick he has played well every game he has played and missed 3 games and still top 4 in the Coleman plus everything else he does like contested marks, tackling etc
I enjoy listening to the data but have an issue with people using words they have no idea what it means. Please explain how team mateJeremy Cameron being second to Tom Hawkins in goal assists is ironic. It is surely a coincidence rather than irony.
@@kossend1the Jeremy and Tom Hawkins example you could describe as a coincidence but it would be an ironic coincidence. Something being Ironic means that it is contrary to what you may expect. With Jez being second of all players in goal assists it makes it all the harder for Tom Hawkins to rank as number one since they would be competing with the same opportunity’s generated by the finite amount of inside 50s / scoring chains. This makes the outcome of them both being one and two In the same team surprising and therefore ironic. The dusty example is more loose but one could say, out of all the years for CD to start tracking broken tackles it was the year dusty entered the league, what an interestingly unexpected comical circumstance which is in essence Irony.
As soon as the get it done segment started I thought of those 2019 & 2020 5th place finishes for the eagles Lapses late in the season killed a potential period of contention
and a piss poor percentage, which was also related to lapses in games that led to an ability to put big margins on the board. Im an eagles fan and think about this all the time, couldve had another flag as that 2019 team was the best we had on paper
That 2019 season was such a waste, chances are Richmond would have won the flag still, but we were within a goal of them at the MCG in conditions that were favourable to them.
Hoyney's right about the Adelaide game this weekend. Of the final three matches this one scares me the most by a long shot - still not entirely convinced the dogs are a truly consistent side yet, and that's what gets you the double chance in a season as competitive as this
@@UTDDDD we have a knack for playing to the level of our opposition. We were hardly convincing against norf so I'm worried we might be exposed this weekend

On Port Adelaide and the Marshall discussion. I do like Marshall, but I have liked Esava's marking strength in the fwd line, however his reliabilty when kicking for goal is questionable and Marshall is definitely a better set shot. Hoyne suggests Marshall should go behind the ball. I don't know if Marshall can play as a defender. But his field kicking is very good. With that in mind, could he possibly play on a wing? But who does he replace? Perhaps Boak in the long term. (No disrespect to the 360+ game champion) Marshall is a very different body type to Boak. Yes, it will be intriguing to see how and if they bring Marshall back.
I think unless Marshall can get his dead eye kicking going again he'd be better off in a Hoff type role. When he played up the ground last he was much better than he's been forward for a while. Just needs to get a bigger tank.
Love how he is supposedly the best finals player of all time, but only won a final in 4/15 seasons(17-20), which coincidences his status in the game. All time great peak, but the very best in any sport simply cannot have most their meaningful achievements blanketed by such a short time period

There’s needs to be less focus by AFL on Coleman, and more on forward craft. Same for other stats - still hear too much about touches

Definition of irony: a state of affairs or an event that seems deliberately contrary to what one expects and is often wryly amusing as a result
