Hello from St. Petersburg FL...Johan thank you so much for your time and efforts. You are truly the Master of Marshall amps!!! You have done Marshall and thousands of people a great service...can't thank you enough. I own and always loved vintage Marshalls. You have educated and answered so many questions I have often wondered....Marshall should be paying you!!! Thank you again for your drive and dedication... World class.. Also what a staggering collection of gear you have...well done my friend.
I was born in 1967, I think I need a Black Flag as old as I am! It's super fun to play cranked up, but I really love your tone and playing on #39 with the 2204 and SG.
I salute Johan and his 'team' for providing all this amazing content over the years - even more so now given the current situation. The videos are always entertaining and informative, and a real spirit-lifter. As ever, well done. :) Oh, and the '73 Super Lead (No. 10) , Super Bass (No. 11) and '67 JTM 50 (No. 21) were outstanding. :)
Marshall , all the above demonstrated = Legendary tone , feel , and power . On almost every stage , and recording all over the world for so many years and on-going . One and only . Unique and much desired . What more ?
That's Really Great! You know me, I Love them All! Well done and thanks for sharing brothers! Appreciate your including the Strat! Have a great weekend, Be Well Simon and Johan!
What a wonderful review of yesteryears, Johan. When you went through the JTM45 years. The split cascaded 71 Superlead and the offset 1963 JTM45 are exactly the models I have build my amplifier on, based on a '64 JTM45 with a split cascaded 1 stage with a thinner valued coupling capacitor value. It works but have taken time to tweak. Lastly the greenbacks needs to be replaced to 2 pulsonic and 2 AlNico. Then my life is fulfilled. Pas på dig selv, min ven. Ha der bra!
Difficult to decide, Johan! They all are traditional Marshall voices and although some varied considerably from one another, I loved each and every one! They all win the cup, brother!!
Johan Segeborn I work with an amp builder. Our amps are based primarily on mid-to-late 60’s Plexi Marshalls, among others. Hearing your examples played is a real joy for us! Thanks Johan!
Awesome video Johan! If I had to pick one of them I'd go with the "1967 JTM50 Black Flag no. 2"......you are playing a very cool part at 8:36 minutes in and the tone of that amp and the room and cabinet micing, etc. make it sound AMAZING!!!
Johan, i did it,.. i finally acquired my 4th original AVT 4x12 cab,.. with the G100Rcd's, dual-100watt solid state Marshall full stacks, dude it sounds amazing,.. always love the videos, stay well man,.. my vote, all of them,.. but other then the walls, Lol,.. #4. super bass- seems to stand out to me,.. thanks,, Cheers A,..
My favorite was 4 - '67 Super Bass. Next was a toss up between 23 - '77 Super Bass and 27 - '67 JTM100 Black Flag. Overall liked: 1, 4, 15, 16, 21, 23, 27, 31, and 33. This was awesome! \m/
All them were fabulous, not a bad tone among them. In terms of favourites, your 77 2204 sounds good with any guitar, the 65 JTM45 is quite special too. Overall favourite, the 67 Super Bass with the Strat, it just screamed Hendrix!
Great video, as usual. The late 60s ones always sound the best (through that strat sounded pretty good through almost all of them). I am convinced though now that Clapton was the only guy ever to make a Bluesbreaker sound good. Every time I play an old one or a reissue, or every time I hear someone playing one in a video, they sound terrible - shrill and grating. And you're my favorite UA-cam guitar gear-guy ever, and I think your videos are both incredibly informative and entertaining, but there's always something about how these amps are recorded - it's either the mics or mic placement (or both), but the sound is never doing these amps justice; they always sound like they're being miked too closely or the mics are too bright on the top end and some of these recordings... almost sound direct because of it. Or it kind of sounds as if you're playing with a coin, and there's a new set of strings put on for every take - it's got that kind of harsh, chirpy presence to it.
How could we possibly pick one?? I'm sure I sound like a broken record here, I really love the JTM's! The pleximaster truly was a beast! Your '77 with the strat doing Jimi tones was SO good. I really love the '71 50 watt lead too, but that might be because I have a '72 50 watt lead haha :). ALL are dream level amps I'd say. Have a great weekend Johan and thank you for a wonderful video again. Helps a lot being stuck at home all week for the sheltering in place
Please would you review the Friedman PT-20 ( pink taco ). Would love to hear what sounds you create with it. Specifically the newer one with gain switching to utilise the lower gain circuit. Great channel!
Absolutely love the plexi videos. Glorious. Perfect video to ask another question. Why do you never jump channels on a Plexi? Your results are fantastic, but it goes against the common plexi thinking.
Thanks! Maybe jumping the channels is more important for reissue plexis where the lead channel may sound to thin on its own, or when the amp is played at a lower volume. Since I crank the amps I always have the bottom end I need even if the bass knob is at zero. Another reason for jumping would be to have more gain for Solos but I haven’t looked into that enough yet. Cheers
Thanks Gareth! We could compare it to an 80s JCM800 combo, but here in Sweden the Studio series is significantly more expensive than the original 800s from the 1980s, so I would have to recommend getting one of those. Prices may be different in other parts of the world though.
Johan OMG! Thank you for this video! The one head that stood out for me was the 67 JTM BlackFlag No.2 50 watter! What is this amp? Is this stock? Being from Los Angeles, Hollywood is minutes away, I heard all the mods from everyone, Bogner, Soldano, Lee Jackson, Jose Arredondo. This sounds like a Jose mod but a JTM 50?! Would love to know!
In sweden we like to compare ourselfs to others, common is to say things like: why can't we be more like them? or, why don't we do that? Well at least now we can say we have the best sounding guy in the world of guitarsound!!
Really nice collection of old Marshalls. For me the old plexis were really the best as far as sound and playability. A person didn't have to be a great guitarist to have things sounding great. All but one of my old Marshalls died along time ago.
@@JohanSegeborn I still have a 71 50 watt. The power transformer blew but I managed to get another from the same year.I have 6 tube Marshalls now( mostly 800's) but the old 71 is easily the best sounding.years ago I was offered a lot of money for it and many people have said it was the best Marshall they ever heard.
Hi, Johan! My best feeling was around 70-71 models, but they all are good. Maybe not the same, but you did an excellent work! I will see it few times, because its hard to find one that is perfect! Have a nice weekend, and be careful! See you! Zigfrid

Johan: "Which one do you like best?"
The World: "Yes"
Cheers ;-)

They are all amazing
with every riff, I love how you are a master of avoiding the copyright! ;)
Thanks :-) It’s that but also the fact that the riffs themselves have so much character that they indicate the tone even if it isn’t there.
Number 1 was by far my favorite. My lord if I could get that sound I’d be set for life
The best top 40 show ever !!! 👍 🎸🔊💥
Thanks my friend, have a great weekend!
I enjoyed the 67 Super Bass the most. What awesome distortion!! Awesome vintage metal tone!!!!!
Thanks, glad to hear that!
Yeah, that roughed up black flag is magical....

I’m in St. Pete, too. Johan, seems you have your own fan club over here. 👍🏼
I always come back to your channel for just watching plexis cranked. Thanks for being the cool guy in a world of modelling amps
I was born in 1967, I think I need a Black Flag as old as I am! It's super fun to play cranked up, but I really love your tone and playing on #39 with the 2204 and SG.
Thanks Erik! Yeah the neck tone on #39 is a favorite of mine too. Cheers!
#4 ('67 Super Bass/"Pleximaster Beast") is an absolute MONSTER! Hulking slabs of ferocious old-school metal/"Sabbath" tone there! YUM!

Those super bass's sound wonderful for guitar. Then again, all of the amps sounded great.
