    I was lucky enough to have seen Robin Trower with James Dewar in the early '70s. There will never be another voice like James Dewar.

      Yes. James Dewar was big and nicer to hear than most holy monsters .. and he never got the proper recognition, just like the Robin Trower that is rarely quoted among the big ones.

    So refreshing to hear someone say dont get to wrapped in learning someone elses solo not for note.

    • @jordandangelo180
      @jordandangelo180 5 років тому +5

      Aaron Mifsud it was great to hear that. I always instinctively told myself it wasn’t good to learn all these solos note for note like people would used to tell me why they were going in lessons. I always wanted to learn the scales and chords so I could make my owns solos up and create my own sound. They legendary players the ppl want to usually
      Didn’t copy anyone and came up with their own thing. A lot of time there was no one the copy since Guitar was in its infancy in the 1950’s and 60’s. Hendrix creates a style his own and so did a lot of other players.

    • @angrytroll27
      @angrytroll27 5 років тому +4

      @@jordandangelo180 Exactly! Ive never really been interested learning someone else stuff note for note (granted Ive learnt a couple) mainly I just learnt licks n sections from solos i liked. Even Glen Tipton said you should be proud that what you do sounds different. Randy Rhoads always told his students to find their voice. I even tell my students not to get wrapped up in learning stuff note for note, becuase it can be discouraging not sounding exactly like the song. Plus I never really understood the note for note videos on youtube when it sounds exactly like the song. At band practice Ill play my spin or interpretation of the solo.

    • @jordandangelo180
      @jordandangelo180 5 років тому +4

      Aaron Mifsud I was the same way with my students and on gigs. I always did it my way because that’s how they did it. Copying note for note does not make you a great guitar player. It makes you a great tribute band guitar player.

    Why has Robin never been on EC's Crossroads roster? I looked at the line up just yesterday and once again didn't see his name. He deserves the exposure. All these decades of working on his craft, though periods of fame and obscurity, and he's stayed true. He's a legend, a true original, humble to his craft and loyal to his fans. He played those opening notes of Daydream and my heart still leapt - after all these decades he still slays me.

      @Tom Upton And how. First saw jimmy with Stone the Crows at Burns Howff in Glasgow so many many years ago, originally went there to see The Last Poets (who went nowhere), as they started getting some recognition I saw Stone the Crows at a later date at the Apollo, they really were a superb band. Jimmy was a great singer and just so much better than say Davie Pattison or the young lad who has been playing bass / singing (if you could call it that) with Trower over the last few years. Favourite vocal on any Trower album has to be About To Begin from Bridge of Sighs. Dewar for me was one of the greatest talents Scotland has produced.

    I think Robin always got a bad rap for being a Hendrix clone which I never understood because he isn't! They both used Marshall superleads and the univibe, but his phrasing is completely his own! I first saw Robin in 1974 in Detroit's Masonic Temple when I was 16. Wall-to-wall Marshalls. During the concert, one of them caught fire! Flash forward to 2008 and I took my youngest son to see Robin in Houston at the Meridian. My boy was eleven, the only kid in the place. There were no seats so my boy insisted on going right up front to see the band, could almost touch 'em. Robin opened with Twice Removed from Yesterday, and I felt like I had fallen into a time warp. Our ears rang for days....I will always have a place in my heart for RT.

I was relating to you a comment an old friend of mine who was interviewing you, quoted you saying, "I feel like I'm running out of ideas." I said I hope the pedal, and you finished my thought saying, "inspires, me." Man, now you're just so energized! I hope you stay inspired. There you go, that's a great word. It describes your being. Robin is (and will always be) monumental in my Book. Dat Tone and Phrasing is a truly unique Voice directly from his Soul. No One sounds like him. Long live the mighty Trower! ;-)

    I’ve died and gone to heaven. Thank you Marshall! Now how about a signature RT amp?

    • @artysanmobile
      @artysanmobile 5 років тому

      Andy Craven Marshall retains real credibility because it does not do that sort of thing. The signature IS the Marshall amp, not the guitarist.

      @@artysanmobile Ok, so what about the Slash, Yngwie Mamsteen, Joe Satriani, Kerry King and Zakk Wylde signature heads? No signature gear was maybe the companies ethos in Jim's day but times have changed.

    I saw him play the Whiskey a go go during his Bridge of Sighs tour. Great show. Goosebumps. I’m glad he’s still got it. Thanks.

    saw Robin Trower at a small venue in the early 90's with a band called Sunset Height's..there were tables on the floor and you could roam around and even got outside if you needed to "take a smoke break"...it was one of the best concerts I've even seen

    I learned to play bridge of sighs last week. It's my favorite riff. I heard unknown hinson playing the riff and I had to find out more about the song.

    All great players are so humble and nice. They don't have to prove anything. They got it.
