I am CRUSHED right now. Absolutely DEVASTATED! I turned 42yrs old the day after Peters 77th birthday. I was introduced to The Monkees at the age of 8yrs by my father watching re-runs. I was hooked immediately and have been a proud "Monkee Junkee" for 34 years. I'm so very thankful that I was able to see them in concert before even the passing of Davy Jones. R.I.P Peter Tork and my heart goes out to his family and to all those who loved him

Same. I'm close to your age, and watched the Monkees reruns on Nickelodeon in the mid/late 1980s.

The Monkees belong in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. So what if they were a TV band. They had more fans, were more iconic, outsold and had more hits than most acts that are already in the Hall.

I think you've managed to set the bar very low for the Hall of Fame.

You miss the point, George. As Torkee was quoted, they WEREN'T a band..they were an entertainment operation! None of them were accomplished musicians. Mike wrote a couple decent songs and Micky and, to a lesser degree, Davy could sing..but HALL OF FAME?? Get TF out of here.

Ouch! Yet another hit, right in the childhood. This getting old stuff is for the birds. My grandma used to say the worst part of aging is watching everything you loved die. She wasn't kidding. I'll admit it, a tear or three comes when my faves die, and Peter got three. RIP.

Peter Tork was visably aging the last few years. You could hear it in his voice where he started to sound like an old man. Its shocking as you grow over 60 like me and remember these guys in their prime and its like overnight and these people are elderly. Time is a tricky thing and young people have no idea how fast it goes.

I agree...the Monkees are forever frozen in our memories as young...when I saw them in the 90s on tour, I genuinely thought Mickey Dolenz was going to sing "we're the old generation..and we've got something to say"....of course he didn't...I was very shocked at Davey Jones's passing as he just was so youthful looking....and yes, when did we get old all of a sudden?

RIP Pete! As a child of the 60's I can honestly say, you were my first crush! I defied my parent's rule about not leaving the supper table until everyone was finished. I had to watch the Monkees.

    • @birdsfan57
      @birdsfan57 5 років тому

Yes, 7:30 on Monday nights. I would usually stay for dinner at my friend's house that night so we could watch the show together. Her family had one of those big color TV/stereo combo units (which, at that time, cost a small fortune, but today wouldn't even scratch the surface of the price for a new IPhone), and it was quite the treat watching them in color, as my family could only afford a black and white set. Used to bring my Monkees albums over to her house to play them on that stereo unit. The best times for two 11 year old girls who were just crazy about the Monkees. My heart is broken today, as it was 7 years ago when Davy died, as another part of my 60's childhood (which was THE BEST) is, again, gone.

They actually had an album ranked # 1 on Billboard ahead of the Beatles ranked # 2. Only for one month but that was still amazing. Great songs. I'm going to listen to some but it will probably make me cry. Not ashamed of that.

I am saden by the news of Peter Tork passing. I have been a fan of The Monkees since I was 14 yrs old. I remember watching every show on Mondays at 7:00 pm on channel NBC-4 never missed a single show not even the reruns. My friend and I used to write fan letters to Tiger Beat magazine. I had posters of The Monkees all over my bedroom walls(with DAVY JONES being my favorite) . I had also bought every single record they made. Finally seeing them in concert. I will miss Peter Tork a lot.R.l.P. Peter.

Peter and the rest of the band the Monkees were a real group of singers and musicians that have gotten a bad rap. I remember watching their show on TV and liking their music. "Headquarters" came out and was climbing the charts and was headed for best LP of the year, bur the Beatles came out with Sgt Pepper and the rest is history. Pete, and Davey are gone but the memory of them will live on in their music. Thanks guys for the music.

Nothing quite reminds us of our own mortality as the passing of our entertainment "idols" from our childhood. I had a friend growing up who was the worlds biggest Monkee fan as a kid, had everything possible with a Monkee logo for a kid to get in a small midwestern town. He died just a few hours after Davy which was both sad and somehow fitting. It's good to hear others of my age group talking about growing up with their music and lighthearted attitude.

“A Little Bit Me, a Little Bit You” was also written by Neil Diamond. Compare it to his early Bang hits, and it’s obvious.
Thanks for remembering Tork. Your work is most appreciated!

Interesting juncture--- in 2004, I was living on a sailboat docked at Marina del Rey CA, and decided to walk up to the nearest restaurant/ lounge with live music.
Turns out the band was one Peter played guitar in , locally.
After their first break,I went up and shook Pete's hand and chatted for a minute. Very humble, down-to- earth gentleman. What an iconic " happenstance" of a blessing.lol.
The fact that I'd actually meet one of those Monkees I listened to as child..😌..awesome.
    God rest his soul!

Peter came to our small town and played with his band a few years back. Was a pleasure to see him play and he was kind enough to chat between sets. Carry on kind Sir!

The world of rock 'n' roll has lost a true music icon. I watched "Hey, hey we're the Monkees" religiously every Saturday morning. May Peter's family and friends be blessed in their time of loss. RIP Peter.

Rest In Peace Peter. : (
    You are a multitalented musician.
With a bit of comedy as well.
I love the music and watching the tv shows brings memories.

Speaking for myself, it is not so much who wrote the lyrics or even the melody, it is who got the songs on the radio and into our hearts. Peter Tork and the Momkees!

How can anyone not love The Monkees as a group but also individually, too? Peter - so talented, friendly, able to laugh a lot, a good actor - convincing as "the dumb one" of the band, yet probably the smartest one in the band. Check out his Shoe Suede Blues Band = excellent. I saw him in concert. He said, "Take all the videos and pictures you want and be sure to post them on youtube so they will be there when I'm gone".....RIP Peter. You will be missed. Send our love to Davy. ♡

I'm getting these flashbacks to an earlier day when life was so much more innocent. I was a grammar schooler when The Monkees had their TV sitcom when the band and show were a major part of my life. A few years ago I passed an old establishment out of my way in the middle of nowhere in northern NJ USA that had a sign in front announcing an appearance by Peter Tork. Never got there. Peter will be missed, as well as Davy, of course. Peace.
