I forgot to mention that my son in law’s boss bought a sawmill. He said since I follow your feed, I have to come show him how to run it. I laughed and told him all I know about running a sawmill is how to push play and pause on my iPad when watching your videos.
Good to hear you get your check ups, my husband found a low grade prostrate cancer and he goes in reg check up and blood work. It is important. Tks❤ great video ❤
Hey mate, good on you for talking openly about prostate cancer or procedures for diagnosing it. I got diagnosed when I was 43, I got told I had between 1 to 5 years to go. That was in 2014! Just be open about it, such is life!! Thank you.
He could mean in large not cancer. If it large you can't pee, you either get the hole made larger in surgery, Or use a cathador 2 options a piss bag or self cath. The bags a pain the the short hairs. And you have to go empty it and get the rig changed often or get a bladder infection thats very very painful. 2 options to open up the path cut or lazer cut might have to be done more then once. Lazer usually last. Either way its something older men have to look forward to. You'll Know the first time you drink 2 gallons of water and don't piss. It hurts.
Been cutting fire wood for 50 years and just recently I mean last 10 years got into sawing logs into boards, first on a bandsaw then a chainsaw mill. I look forward all the time to cutting logs into boards. If you were closer i'd be over volunteering to help you. I love seeing boards cut. these were some lovely red oak boards! I enjoy watching you.
Great job milling lumber today Nathan, you got all you could use out of that log. Glad your check-up turned out good for you. You have a lot on your schedule, don't overload yourself. Stay safe and keep up the great videos and the fun you have around there. Fred and family.
As always appreciate the videos. Thanks a lot for the explanation why you were not there last week. Even though it is no one’s business, except yours, I appreciate it ole friend.
Beautiful red oak. When I was in my early teens, Dad took ownership of the farm from Grandpa and then cut the oak in the wood lots to help pay for it. The logger had a Lane Sawmill and set it up on the main farm wood lot. Part of the deal was for the logger to make some 2x4’s for adding a shed roof to the horse barn. About 2 years later the shed roof project was underway. The oak was used as purlins and the roofing was aluminum. Dad’s buddies came to help put down the roofing. Started about 9:00 AM and by 9:30 they were done, and only the first sheet of aluminum was in place. Ever try to drive an aluminum nail into dry oak? Can’t be done by a bunch of weekend warriors with minimal carpentry experience. Today, a screw bit on a cordless drill would work, but this was late ‘50’s. Lots of cussing and yelling and joking, they had fun with the short time they were there.
I’ve been thinking about your battery problem and think it would be able to solve it by simply tape a hand warmer to your camera so it stays warm! I love to watch the grain pop when you throw water on your boards thanks for your videos.
Gald you're ok my friend. Videos are your time. Everyone has their lives. When you post, we're glad you did and watch. Take care Nathan. Oh, by the way, i know all about cleaning the chicken house as a kid...lol.
Nathan, glad that things went well for your medical procedures sometimes you just have to get things done and out of the way sawmilling and other stuff goes to the back burner 😮😊❤
Really enjoyed this video!!! Our house was built in 1924. Red Oak floors thru out. 2 1/4" wide. Don't know the thickness. When we redid the kitchen we went to 5" don't remember the thickness. Thanks for sharing!!!!!
I'd like to see a vid of making flooring from log to actual piece of flooring. Glad you did the routine procedure and it came out alright. I can tell you from first hand experience that you don't want them to come back saying they found something. It's been a long 2yrs.
I’ve been working with Red Oak and another guy with a Woodmizer. It’s some mighty fine and beautiful wood to work with. We’ve been cutting for building materials and for my sign making hobby.
I have watched your vlog since you really lived in the woods. I used those videos to construct my kiln. I have an LT 40 wide hydraulic and a wood shop. I mostly saw walnut and cherry for personal use. I have 5 acres in suburban rural Chicago. Have learned volumes from your videos. Couple suggestions: instead of a concrete pad i used pavers. Easy to install and can change the configuration if you wish. For saw dust collection I purchased a fishnet laundry bag, cut that black hose down to 6-8” and used hose clamps to afix hooks to the metal exit tube just above the black tubing. I use the handles to hang the bag on the hooks. I have 2 large wheeled garbage cans to periodically position under the laundry bag, raise the head and unzip the bag dumping the sawdust into the garbage can. The blow by saw dust on the pad is usually very light and can be blown away with the electric blower. Saves a lot of shovelling cause i just dump the cans on to the burn pile. You current operation is sweet and efficient. Before winter i sawed 6x6 and 4x4 white oak to make a roof over my pad. Dont work in the cold so i wait for spring and watch you. You are an inspiration. -JSP
@OutoftheWoods0623 📫 I've been extremely busy the last year. I am trying to secure funding for my projects 📫 looks like I hit the ball out of the park and have 3 more years on the West Coast 📫 than 4 years near the Great Lakes
That red oh-ack is a bit heavy! I cut some trailer decking for my uncle in July. Tree was only down a couple days prior. 6/4 x 5 3/4 -16'. Was a tad heavy.
Hi Nathan. I was curious if the Wood-Mizer has a built in fail safe built in to prevent the blade from hitting the clamps? Sometimes it looks close to crashing into it. Love the videos....
Good to hear you're keeping up with your health checks. A lot of guys don't. Seriously, all the blokes watching, get the tests done as you get older. Yes, you get nervous the first couple of times but the reward of an "all clear" is great. Even if you do get a call back for something, normally, it's just a recheck, or, you've caught it in time for an easy fix.
Glad to hear everything turned out OK on your procedure. Hell to get old ain't it? Are you going to saw material for the log cabin yourself or are you buying a kit?
wow, love your content, its so informative and I like your injection of humor. Question: I started a small sawmill business and was wondering as to which insurance company you go with for your business?
Something I've wondered about for a while. You start off with a log that you cut into three sections, then you cut the sections into boards individually. If the boards are all the same thickness, why not cut all three (or even just two of them) together?
Wow that oak looked RED in the video! I don’t know if it was just the light, camera, or my iPad, but it looked way redder than any red oak I’ve seen. Really pretty stuff.
That’s some might find RED OAK. I’d call it clear grade for sure. Yes sir nicking st 60’s door I had my appointment on Monday no fun at all sir. But a must for health care longevity 🤠🙏
Thanks for the video. We miss you when you don't get a video out but we understand you have a family and a business to attend to. Like you always say, "Hang in there."
Why don't you saw two cants at once, if you are cutting the same thicknes out of all of them, you'd double your production time which gives you more time for other things.
Glad you're doing okay. Have younlost any chickens to the avian flu? I have lost almost all my birds that came into the feeders overbthe last few years. Michigan had over 1000 nesting pairs of Eagles and have lost over 40% of them. I dont see any Eagles anymore. There was a nest a few miles of me and there gone and was another 3 or 4 nests within 20 miles of me and there all gone. The bird flu been terrible up here in the north.

Question: is it better to kiln dry the wood before or after you cut for the flooring?
oh ! and why?
Quarter sawn red oak! Life is good.
great video, time to take that tire off😮
I move the sawmill about 4 times a year for cleaning, would be a pain without it,
nice Sawing Norm Ty God Bless
Dude you're living a life👍😎
Just had one of those procedures. Glade everything turned out good.
Glad to hear that!

That is the best way to quarter saw in my opinion.
Watching and in replay Nathan
thanks!
Making hardwood flooring is hard work.
Hi Nathan. I was curious if the Wood-Mizer has a built in fail safe built in to prevent the blade from hitting the clamps? Sometimes it looks close to crashing into it. Love the videos....
It does not. Have to watch it closely
Now you sawing!!! Any body can get good grain lumber out of good logs! But a true grade sawyer can cut good lumber from low grade logs!!!
Happy all went well at your procedure. Being 61 chances are I have had it a couple times 😅
Nathan, Do the Woodmizer controls calculate where to start sawing based on the height of the wood and what thickness you want to saw?
Nathan you are just a wood cutter. Hehehe. Love ya' pal. We are all just pawns in the game of life.

What do you do with all of your sawdust? You cant use for the chickens if it has certain woods in it correct?
You need to put skids on the chicken house where it can be easily moved.
It’s on concrete
It’s great to have your videos back, I am glad your procedure went well. Top-notch editing, as usual. Thanks!
GREAT VIDEO
Thanks!
how wide can you make oak flooring??

Yup, those procedures can be a pita. Glad it scoped out all fine.

Yeah the light can make the grain pop.
Do u have put on a different blade for hard wood, from cutting softer wood just wondering
Same ones for all

As to the end of this video, you ever hear the phrase, “Work is the worst thing in the world…except for the alternative.”

Since you cut the 3 slabs into equal pieces can you cut them all together ?

Did you 1/4 saw and cut off sapwood?
What was your choice of prostate "trimming"?
Can anyone make spoons or pens from the rejected slabs?
Good ??
Why don't you saw two cants at once, if you are cutting the same thicknes out of all of them, you'd double your production time which gives you more time for other things.

Why
You should NOT be circumspect about the procedure… it’s important
Well Dr Google provided the answer, no you do not. How many people do not. Know that?
Maybe you should mention that?
Family Guy produced a 47 second documentary about that procedure that is very educational: ua-cam.com/video/EipOcyNuu6I/v-deo.htmlsi=57eqEBV0mXdMFDv4
