Wilson Pickett is the first performer I ever saw live in person! He was performing at a nightclub in Boston, I was only 17 and not old enough to go into a nightclub. I had sisters seven and eight years older than me who knew the owner, he allowed me to go in to watch the Wilson Pickett show and then I had to leave. I was so excited he was my favorite singer at that time, it was such a special time for me The memory I will never forget.

I used to babysit for a lady who LOVED Wilson Pickett. She had all his records (on vinyl of course). I would put those records on and dance until I dropped. You couldn't keep your feet still to Wilson Pickett.
I don't know the name of the group that covered this song but it was actually in the late 80s movie called "Breakin". Obviously it was a much faster beat to go along with the break dancing theme of the movie but it was an excellent song.

Have you guys ever checked out the guy from humble pie Steve Marriott... He's a great guitar player and a super vocalist very similar to Wilson Pickett style.

If you ever have the time do yourself a favor and watch the Movie "The Commitments" (1991) about poor young white kids from Dublin forming their own soul band. Their hero; Wilson Pickett. It's so bloody brilliant, fun and fantastic music (it includes a punker on drums, a stressed out mananger, an old geezer (teh Lips) who for some obscure reason gets all the girls) and one of the most antisocial singer you will have ever come across :) Pure fun, incredible music. A classic.
