    Brandon,
Thanks for adding this to your channel. I was having the same issues with my 2002 F-350, when I watched your video I decided to replace the IDM before anything else, after installing the new part my truck fired up on the first try. Thanks again, you saved me a lot of time and money!
    Jim

Would your truck start sometimes and not others? I am troubleshooting my 97 f250 that is giving me a battery light on the dash but has no codes, has a new alternator and new batteries but still shows the light

There are so many things on a diesel that need to work correctly in order to start.
When you have a new truck, then it is likely to be caused by one item.
The older the vehicle is, the more likely that there are many things, that contribute to a poor start.
    Example:
Old PCM and ICM relays, low battery voltage, corroded battery terminals, poor starter solenoid, starter cable connector/terminal, starter condition/age, glow plugs/relay.
    Cold weather:
air intake heater coil/relay, exhaust back pressure valve, fuel bowel heater, block heater(if equipped)
Also, motor oil level, fuel, an original IPR or a bad CPS can cause a no start.
You don’t need a functioning ICP sensor or a fuel pump (if primed) to start.

Holy cow man, my 2000 is almost exactly the same boat. 230k miles no start/hard start unless it's warm or with some starter fluid. This is gonna be my hopefully last diagnostic for this issue, already did glow plugs alternator and both batteries. Luckily the starter is fine! Thank you!

HEY Great video I have a 2001 f350 like you and it died a year ago so ive been driving my 02 mustang GT.Im disabled so money is tight.Ive put the new valve cover gaskets and new wires to it,new icp and new wires and ipr and new wires ,cam shaft sensor, new fuel filter ,rebuilt my HPOP cause the o-rings were leaking oil, Then watched your video and bought the rebuilt idm and got it running. But it had no power at all and the check engine light would come on as i started driving it. Still hard to start problems. Then i put a new fuel pump in thinking it was that but (no) still no power.I went to store in my town and it quit running on the way back and now its DEAD again.I think maybe I have a leak in o-rings in 1 or 2 of the injectors maybe thats why hard start.so i bought a kit and new glow plugs while im in there for 3rd time.My question now is to you.Do you think the ecu has anything to do with no power? When it died the check engine light stays on all the time now and will only start with a lil startin fluid. somehow it wont let the fuel threw it.I love the truck and not giving up on it..Thanks keep your videos rolling sorry for long reply but hopefully this will help someone else. LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK OR ANYBODY ELSE PLEASE. THANKS Jeff.....

I am doing the same thing..I have the 99 7.3 changed everything..just spent 400 on batteries and I still had the click.. but It's been hard cranking slow to crank.. and yes I have 350,000 on her..changed everything.. new AC completely, new IPR, ICP, fuel bowl heater, oil change, new glow plug solenoids, new vacuum lines, you name it.. it's new..hell the starters Only a year old...so I ordered a new one but think it's just the solenoid on the passenger side front fender well.. test that tomorrow before I remove the old starter and install the new one..on mine the computer under the console would fill up with water and short (a fail from the factory) that problem was resolved but I haven't replaced the unit you're referring to now..and I am going to..so thank you for the heads up.. I have owned my since it was new also and she's been damn good to me so I am trying desperately to keep her. And yes 21 years she's has more that served me well if I break down the cost if I had to pay payments..

My 7.3 was the male connect for the ipr a $17 dollar part after spending $300 on fuel pump, new ipr and valve cover gaskets. It was causing same symptoms but it will run fine when cold.
My advice is do the wiggle test on sensors to begin with, that would of save me a ton of money and about a week of time.

I may be able to help u with a few things Ive seen/done. Skyjacker said my steering stabilizer was installed better than their instructions. Now for the body work. I put a 4" skyjacker full suspension. We restored frame back in '15. Needs a lil tlc again. I have some pretty good info tho, too. Good luck buddy.

I think you were getting icp, ipr, recommendations, it’s because you start small, idm removal, and refurb isn’t huge, but if easier the icp and ipr sensors. Now, just like your pos/neg cables, if you never changed the icp or ipr, now you know you’ve done it..hope you did the best you could to waterproof the idm area..

Hey buddy I've got a 99 super duty 7.3 dually with six speed, great tow vehicle. Mileage about 288 k first day I had it had some issues cutting out is like trying to drive down the freeway turn the key off and on, in other words don't know if you're going to make it home or you're going to tear the transmission rear end out the only way it would run decent is pretty much wide open, I was doing 80 and 90. Can't remember which sensor I changed but that problem went away then blowing the fuse replaced the heating element in the fuel filter. I'm only actually driven this thing several hundred miles the current problem is this.. hard starting no power after it does, running very rough stepping on the throttle and almost nothing happens then after a minute or two it will apparently get more fuel pressure and then it will rev up. Do you have any suggestions what it might be? Really started regretting selling my Cummins 24 valve, it never skips a beat zero issues. I don't even trust driving this truck

Hey man how did your truck act after it got hot sounds like I am having same problem if I let it warm up good and take off it does ok but if not I will make it about 1/4 mile and it’s like it runs out of fuel

Tell me where are these spark plugs are that light up the fuel in this COMPRESSION engine? And why so much parts changing without troubleshooting, reading live data? Just change idm first to see? More parts throwing at it

I love my 7.3 but I hate that there's like 50 little things that all cause the same symptom on them. It can nickel and dime you to death, but when they're running good, you absolutely can't beat them.

experiencing that with a 2000 7.3. MY OLD (rust bucket, i live at the beach) 1993 7.3 idi just goes and goes. Biggest 2 problems are rust and local mechanics that aren't real diesel mechanics.

Hello, question. My truck runs solid just having trouble to fire. Once shes hot shell fire very easily. Does this sound similar to your problem?

My 2000 7.3 was starting fine when warm, but not when cold. Did some work on it to fix that. Glow plugs, relay, injector seals, HPOP seals, due to oil in the valley. Now cold or hot takes a long time cranking to start. Only time is starts right away is right after I shut it off. No white or blue/black smoke. Runs fine has same power has before. Seems like HPOP oil drain down, either from reservoir or oil galley. Any other ideas? What happens if the front seal on the HPOP shaft starts leaking?

My truck takes long cranking to start all of a sudden and has a rough idle. Have and ideas where I should start? I live in California. no smoke. Its not a cold start.

after you sprayed the starter fluid would it shut off or stay on? before you changed the module. Im asking because my truck cranks and cranks but if i used starter fluid it will ignite but shut off within a few seconds.

This is more than Likely what I'm about to replace. I have changed the IPR I have changed the ICP I have changed the CPS and both valve covers and harness's was going to rebuild injectors until I discovered someone else already did it in the past seals were still good. Throws no codes. I'm gonna do what he did and replace my IDM but if that doesn't fix it I think it'll be time to sell it. My only other suspect could be my HPOP but it seems to get good pressure according to the gauge I hooked up 3000-3500 and up.

With your old one 73 diesel when you change the IDM did you ever have a crank no start problem that's what mine's doing and I've replaced all the parts you mentioned except for the IDM

I have been dealing with exactly same situation on my truck. I have changed icp ipr, ops, and now thanks to you i am getting ready to order idm. They are now 175 so they must of went up but honestly as much as they charge to work on these trucks its worth a try

My 7.3 has been giving me HELLLL, I mean I can't tell you how much tine I've spent in the shop, and now it's been sittin for the last damn near 6 months, and well I have treated her like a Ford ranger for a while so this should be fun to try an start up and rely on to get me from one state to the next..😅
