I don’t think it can purely based on it’s name. Now if it was a one off Japanese word like Yakuza(which in itself is a pretty well known term in English anyway) or Sekiro(even though it has Shadows Die Twice to help it), then possibly. But history has not been kind to games with mostly Japanese in their title like Okami, can’t imagine how much harder it is with a title like Shin Megami Tensei which has 6 syllables. If Yakuza had retained it’s Japanese name, Ryu ga Gotoku, I doubt it would sell half as much as it did. Taking purely in Western territories btw. Persona has the the advantage of it already being an English word and Pokémon, while technically a a shortened term, is so much easier to remember.

@@john-xo1li its gonna be a while before that happens so in the mean time I would prefer a proper localization of 1/2 first, seeing how all 1 got was a dinky phone port thats not playable anymore and 2 has never officially left japan.
For any Persona fans planning to play this for the first time, word of advice: USE BUFFS AND DEBUFFS.
They are much more important in this game than the Persona series.
Will note. Very excited to give a mainline SMT game a shot, and I’ll be sure to do a little bit of homework to prep.
Mr. Man I feel like that advice applies to a lot of difficult RPGs. People tend to focus on flashy high dmg moves but buffs can be a game changer
@@nabi7701 I agree, but buffs are ESPECIALLY important in the mainline SMT series, the final boss of this game is literally impossible to beat unless you either grind to max level (which isn't recommended), or use buffs and debuffs.

Nocturne is the reason I despised Mot in all the other Persona games.
Eh, I still say Matador is worse, on account of being plonked so early in the game. You have a very small pool of demons to recruit and fuse from, you don't have access to registering demons yet, making fusion much more risky, your grinding abilities are extremely limited due to everything giving peanuts in EXP and money to heal with, and he's leagues above anything else you've fought in the game up to that point.
Who needs Persona 5 on Switch when we can watch scrubs get destroyed by Fiend Matador in HD?
Scrub filters like Matador and Snartle in Yo-Kai Watch are my favorite kind of monsters.

As a Persona fan, this genuinely excites me. I love the darker aesthetic of earlier Persona games and SMT as a whole, however, prior to now I had no way to play SMT. Thanks, Atlus.

It looks to be the Maniax Chronicles version that featured Raidou Kuzunoha. It was a 3rd version of Nocturne originally released only in Japan. In terms of differences, the big one is Dante being replaced with Raidou. They both are basically the same, gameplay wise, but ally Raidou does have Pierce, whilst Dante didn't.

Nocturne has helped my through so many rough patches in my life, to see a HD remaster for it brings tears to my eyes.

Crossing my fingers that this release will inherit the revised skill inheritance system (manual) and not the archaic one (random) during fusion.
I mean, is it really smt if half of the game isn't rerolling fusions in hopes of getting something that isn't worthless?

N00B's Stuff If they were going to do that I would rather Atlus makes it clear what affinities for skill inheritance each demon has. Or at least allow you to reroll without backing out and picking the demons from the list again.
we can all hope for a bunch of QoL stuff. playing a modern Persona game and then going back to play this wonderful gem and realizing you gotta remember monster weaknesses yourself. at least you can scan them.

@@zachh2864 Yep it was in the base game in 2003 when Devil May Cry wasn't a millionaire selling franchise that overshadow completely the Shin Megami Tensei franchise. If you think Capcom was gonna be cheap with their Dante it was definitely not gonna happen. Atlus probably had to use some big money to get him that couldn't be payed by the base game price

Ryan Sparks Maniax Chronicles had Raidou. Regular Maniax had Dante. It confused me at first too.

It be nice for the whole series though I only really liked the Raidou ones from DS. I don't think we ever got the first Devil Summoner and maybe they can get rid of the stupid 2 in the second raidou game as it NOT the second Devil Summoner game.

@river. I don't see why would you play only the 3ds version when you can have a taste of both. It is about the experience more than anything else.
Also Citra requires certain specs that not everybody outside the US can afford. It is cheaper to just buy the actual 3ds instead.
I'm happy to see this! Looking more forward though to SMT V whenever we see more of it. Personally, I would love to see Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2 get the remaster treatment as well too.

This is far and away my favorite SMT. However with that being said Nocturne can be brutally difficult.

@ShaddyShadShadow oof, I admit that I discovered persona through smash and then SMT through Persona, but I will hope for P5 port, but otherwise I am content with SMT 3 and 5 coming to switch (it is a 100000000000000x time better than pokemon (SS mostly) Though I totally agree that the fandom has become a bit toxic.
Cruz Ramirez it’s really smash fans and Nintendo fan boys but smt fans can’t accept that a lot of persona fans are actually hype for these reveals and would love to purchase them. The only thing I’m disliking in this thread is the fact that so many people don’t know about Raidou when he’s one of the coolest protagonist in the megaten franchise

As a Persona fan, I am so happy I'll finally get the chance to play this game for the first time. Buying a Nintendo Switch this year turned out to be a great decision.

still not terrible, Japanese release is oct 29 this year and we have a spring 2021 release, at least it isn't a full year later, late 2021 release
