Well, 4 and it's sequel where exclusive and 5 is going to be as well. To bad the NES/SNES games only get put on Famicom/Super Famicom online since Atlus won't make official translations for those versions.
Same bro. Although I couldn’t play it on release I played it recently on a ps2 emulator and holy crap I loved every second

Loving the voices they chose so far. They really fit.
Kinda iffy on Isamu but Chiaki and Kagatsuchi are both on point

All SMT games BLEED atmosphere. The series draws you in with mystery & intrigue, and then pulls no punches with its story as you choose which morally grey ideology to side with and which do you sacrifice.

OST is "SMT Nocturne - Ikebukuro" btw. The game is full of chill and atmospheric OST like this!
Another recommended track is "SMT Nocturne - Shibuya" which has a similar vibe
I don't know if I'll invest in this one, but yeah, I really should take the time to look at the OST

@@VonFirflirch I'd say look for gameplay and reviews, since IMO this one is a so-so remaster of a stellar JRPG from 18 years ago, so some gameplay elements might feel dated. Plus the battle OST in this one are sadly still compressed (thankfully other tracks didn't suffer, like this one in the trailer).
Even so, the game's story, atmosphere, philosophy, and OST definitely holds up and still among the most unique the genre has to offer.
If you have a 3DS (or an emulator), I advise starting with SMT IV instead since it's a more streamlined experience and serve as a newcomer's SMT.

I've beaten IV so I am very intrigued by this one, yeah. I'm just a bit scared, going from a later 2D game to a 3D prequel, like... I'm assuming battles aren't nearly as fast-paced, among other things.
By the way, how's death in this game? Can you skip the game over cutscene, or is it like IV where I'm better off rebooting the game so I can reload my save within a reasonable amount of time?
@@VonFirflirch "Death" in Nocturne is pretty brutal. Unlike in IV, when you die in battle it's game over (even when you have other party members still alive). No "save-anywhere" like in IV too, instead you save in terminals (a-la Persona).
The remaster adds a "suspend save" feature, but it's more like Dark Souls where you cannot reload and have to live with the consequences of your actions. You can only escape said fate by reloading a manual save.

Eh, SMT is just Persona without the fun parts. There's a reason Persona has gotten so much more popular over the past few years even though it's technically a spinoff

Mainline SMT games are much more player-choice and gameplay focused than Persona. Also, I know it can be tough to get to it, but give Persona 2 a shot! Its worth it imo

I'm so happy Nintendo is pushing this game.
Nocturne is a masterpiece and genre-defining JRPG that didn't get enough attention outside of Japan back when it originally released and it's kind of a niche game.
It was released on the PlayStation 2 though, I'm surprised it wasn't larger than persona 3
Smt needs to shine. And I say it's about damn time atlus gives the mainline series the limelight after waiting for both 5 and now nocturne HD.

That's probably one of the worst parts of nocturne imo, your first time around there's no reason not to do true demon. You're just missing out on content if you don't do it.

This remaster is definately not the highest potential it could be but by god the voice acting is beutiful I love it!
Luckily it’s just a remaster and nothing more, as there is still the possibility that if SMT skyrockets in popularity we can see a full fledged remake maybe a decade down the line.

My only gripe with this game is the price tag. And I guess SMT5 coming later this year making me fine with waiting even more for some SMT gameplay.
$50 rather than a full $60 for both pc and switch releases is still too high?
I would rather buy this game while I can because the smt titles are expensive and hard to find around the time the switch no longer gets support... all the smt titles for the 3ds are already starting to peak above msrp with smt4 being $100 in most places online

Literally bought all the smt titles on my 3ds a few years back. Incredibly glad I did because most of what I have now that I got for like 30-40$ years back, is now 100+ for just 1 single game. Don't even get me started on the other titles for other consoles.
I guess you will want to pay even more later on.

Exactly. And I will do the same when SMT V comes out. Screw the demons and the angels. Neutral endings are the hardest to get through imo. I mean just look at the amount of stuff you needed to keep in check in SMT IV to get neutral.

Funny enough neutral ending was my first ending I got. All I remember was making choices I felt were right and then it happened. Boy those optional quests sure weren't very optional once I got started on that route.

Probably not. The fmv cutscenes are still the ps2 versions while all other cutscenes are in the unity version.
On the Japanese version they are still 4:3 so i’m sure they didn’t.
The in engine cutscenes were always 16:9

Law/neutral/chaos? Well smt does that. And unfortunately you have to choose one of them that feels right to you rather then the persona route deal of good/bad end. Do you believe in law and upholding peace, doing good for the sake of the many, even if that peaceful route means having to sacrifice freewill? Do you believe in the potential of chaos that can bring people freedom and ability to do as you see fit, even if that route means the weak are considered disposable?
The mainline series doesn't beat around the bush when it comes to choices. You follow what you feel is right and accept the potential consequences with whatever side you decide to pick.
Without having played any other Shin Megami Tensei game (save for some Persona games) can I play this or Shin Megami Tensei V without any knowledge of previous games?

Yes! While SMT1 and 2 are somehow linked together, both 3 and 4 stand by themselves pretty well! If I recall correctly, there’s some callbacks to older games, but they’re purely fanservice and do not impact the lore. But if you’ve enjoyed Persona, those games are very different, so don’t go into them expecting Persona 1.0
You can play any smt game without any worries unless it's like a direct sequel like smt 4: Apocalypse. Though nocturne is considered to be like super hard so you might have some trouble early on
Sure. It's a bit harder than usual but if you have experienced Persona you'll be fine.

This is my first SMT game and I want to know which is Law, Neutral and Chaos without spoilers.
This game uses reasons, not the usual alignment system although basically there's three reasons of law (the ones shown in this trailer) and then two chaos endings (one kinda sucky and one with an additional boss known as True Demon) and a Neutral route with the freedom ending.
What the other comment said is correct. Though I think most people agree that Chiaki is more inline with what's more standard law.
The general consensus is that Chiaki is Chaos, Hikawa is Law, and Isamu is Neutral. However you can also choose to side with none of them and embrace either your Human side, Demon side, or True Demon side.

I do not understand musubi. Isn't musubi, the concept, about the connections between all things? Like threads in a tapestry, weaving around each other and splitting apart, and everything is connected? How does that fit into the reason of isolation?
From my understanding, Musubi is a very isolationist Reason. I think it's implied that its followers essentially become the Demiurge of their own personal world. Idk. It's the least fleshed out Reason and I really wish Nocturne wasn't as minimalist as it was so these and other details could actually be explained.
