If GMs cheat even OTB with risk of getting caught and even lose their title, imagine what they do online with 0 risk of getting caught and 0 real consequences

Any titled player that gets caught cheating in any official tournament should be banned from official competition for life-zero chances. There’s simply no excuse.

It's all about finding the right balance. On one hand, you can't tell yourself that there are no cheaters. On the other, you can't become paranoid like Kramnik and blame the first person you lose a game to. One thing is certain: metal detectors will have to be extended to all tournaments, even amateur ones, to avoid falling into the second Kramnik category.

Yes I do. You either didn’t watch the video or missed something, because it also implies it in the article. If you are accessing the phone in the toilet, you have to go there every single time to use it. Therefore, it is impossible to reference it every single move. For example, if there is a game that has a novelty on move six and the game is 60 moves. You really think they went to the restroom over FIFTY times? 😂

Yep, I won't name names but players who seem to do rather well online I'm finding it easy to beat OTB. The game is becoming a bit of a joke.

I play 1 - 5 minute bullet/blitz and to maintain my peace of mind I just assume every opponent is cheating every game. As I see it my game is simply getting stronger doing battle w/ human/bots. Sure I lose many a game but I also win plenty too, including 3, 5 or seven straight victories on a good day/run. Thanks for sharing.👊🏾😎👍🏼

Was playing in a chess tournament last week and IMMEDIATELY 5 minutes into round one this 2160 player was caught cheating. Then later that tournament another cheater was caught as well as a kid who may have been cheating since he would suspiciously leave when he was in a worse position then come back and blitz out the moves.

This doesnt mean that hes right. Everyone knows chesting happens, even otb, what people contest is the extent of the claims of Kramnik. He simply accuses left right and centre because someone plays a high accuracy game online against him. Cheating happening is a fact and doesnt prove him right.

@@Sickerror no it doesn't but it reinforces his point, Schevchenko is a high level GM who already won titled tuesday before, so this suggests that it's very possible that he cheated online before or still does. I think Kramnik point would be really made if they were able to catch a 2700+ GM cheating, cause if even a 2700 could cheat OTB then literally anyone could be doind this online

It's interesting to me that he's 22. Nakamura has a video about 2900 being impossible to get and went over countless ratings charts showing that after someone hits 20/21 they seem to flatline in ratings.
A few years ago people thought it was impossible to run a sub 10s 100m dash. I bet their charts looked exactly the same

he never said that though, he said the results of his games look strange, which he later explained that the results could mean that players who cheat, stop cheating when they play hikaru (or any other famous streamer/youtuber) because they know they'll get caught since a lot of eyes are watching.

For people who just want to win at all costs the temptation is too much, and it works. Now for them the game becomes one of out maneuvering anti cheat systems rather than of out maneuvering their opponents on the chess board. Who knows how many are getting away with it? We may never know. Chess engines are becoming the scourge of tournament Chess.
I wonder is there has been any more analysis of the phone. It seems likely he's cheating but one could get full confirmation if it's proven to be his.

It would be possible and easy with current tech to cheat OTB even without going away from the board. But IDK if the equipment needed to do it would pass nowdays surveillance (like metal detectors and etc).
But imagine if someone like Elon Musk stoped doing his rockets projects and spend his resources and creativity to cheat OTB. I'm pretty sure he would be able to beat Magnus without being caught red handed.
