    Mr Earl I have been watching your videos and I’ve learned more from you than anyone.

    Earl, I can tell you I have enjoyed your videos for over a year now. You always show us the plain facts on how to do things. And very well presented. In the spirit of that, I want to give YOU a little tip I learned from another video. When you use hot melt glue, try brushing on some denatured alcohol & wait a few minutes. The glue will simply peal right off. No scraping or paper to cut off. I hope this helps.

    Thanks Earl. Great presentation. I've have made about 6 segmented bowls to date but all had solid bottoms. None have cracked as yet but I'm sure they will in time. Been wanting to try a floating tenon but was unsure how to proceed. I'm going to try your method on my next project. Thanks again.

    Great video Earl. I make floating bases similar to your method. I'm going to give yours a try on the next piece. Thanks for sharing!

      I usually just cut a recess, add a disk, and add on the next ring to hold it. I now realize you were talking open segment so splitting the bottom ring would be the way to do it, so I guess I like your process even more! ;

    Earl, with just a little research you might have discovered who first promoted the need for a floating base. Thanks for spreading the technique.

      Yes I remember reading about who started it years ago, need to go back and refresh my memory

      @@tahoeturner Or page 59 & 60 in your book, when I first started I made some nice segmented bases I was lucky I had only made a few when I found out why this is not done. A hard lesson

    I have used some of the methods offered in your segment videos and have found them very helpful. Thank you. Can you please tell me what adapter you use to allow chucking up an and rotating a 3/4 jaw Chuck on the tail stock.

    Great information Earl.... very helpful for us beginners. Thanks!!!
    I’ve never made a woodworking video, (so you’re way ahead of me), but I’d love to see a closer/better shot of lathe work. Watch garage sales for an old articulating arm (like from a lamp or magnifier) & mount it on wall behind lathe for a camera mount.

    You can always learn. I will try using the tailstock to center the disk. Thanks

    That's pretty cool Earl . I like your method . Did you run that segment through the drum sander first ?

    After making a few cabinets where I use small rubber balls to keep doors from rattling why not use them around the gap instead of a spot of glue. The rubber balls will allow wood expansion

      I think I would be very hard to turn it and sand it when it is only held with "space balls" 2 spots of glue holds it good

    Nice explanation of the technique. Your presentation could be improved by talking directly to the camera-- you are sometimes difficult to understand.

    Earl, just a little alcohol will release the hot glue quickly and easily
