That was a pure pleasure to watch. Best algorithm recommendation in a good while. I learned a lot in this video. I have tried to understand how to apply volumetric painting for such a long time and here is a perfect video. Thank you! The Howling Banshee looks incredible! Subbed 👍
Yeah, Im gonna Steal that for my Banshees. While I usually use airbrush for my eldar, it gets boring after a while and using new techniques always keep me motivated.
This is a very nice take on the howling banshees. They have always been some of my favorite eldar models, and your style PERFECTLY embodies what i think they would look like. The texture really makes them look more like the ones in the dawn of war trailer. Liked and subbed, very good tutorial.
I always imagined wraith bone to the Aledari is their version of unpainted metal, so any coloured armour is literally painted wraithbone. I always imagined that would have a fairly matte finish as wraith bone would have a natural texture.
Likes and subscribed for a future planned project, I enjoyed you talking about WHY you were using various techniques. A little constructive criticism though, it wasn't always clear what colour you were using on each step, as you were often so involved in talking about the technique that you had moved onto another step before talking about the colour selection!
So glad you did the black mask and explained the thinking I've literally just done a black marine in this sort of style and I've stippled a dark grey blue hinting at a strong light source coming from the top right, the usual, but left the other side of the model completely black and un painted. Wasn't sitting right with me so now I'm gonna have to go and paint the other side 🙄 would you just stipple around the edges almost like an edge highlight? don't want to detract from the very deliberate strong light source I've tried to mimic
You could try using a darker tone to edge highlight, or move to a more glossy finish, in order to further obscure the viewer's read of the details. The other thing to remember is that strong, single-point light sources will generally provide bounce lighting from the surroundings, generally in a more diffuse manner. The easiest way to demonstrate what I mean here is to take a flashlight into a dark room in your home, turn it on, and place it on the floor, pointed at the ceiling, and observe how the light interacts with the edges and surfaces of a subject. Option two is to introduce a complimentary second light source on the model, to imitate another, weaker, and more diffuse environmental light source, from an appropriate direction.
well now im torn this doesnt match my army much like your nurgle vid but shrines of aspect warriors can have their own scheme so i could try painting a unit like this....
Ugly techniques makes such beautiful model. Best way to describe this is stippling glazes. Would we benefit using a grey/bone zenithal highlight with inks to help us get the right values and save us time on the stippling? Also about how much time is put into this model - we have seen an hour of your work would it be fair to say 5-6 hours?
I use a headset sometimes as I get eyestrain. It's just a cheap on that straps on my forehead. I'm pretty short sighted though so don't really need it, but I find as I've got older that my eyes definitely feel it!
Interesting to see that you don't wick of most of the water when you are glazing. Your brushstrokes when glazing are also not what I am used to. EDIT: realized that you might actually do wick of most of the water but you do it off camera.
You are an incredibly accomplished and skilled painter. Thank you for showing us your tecniques, you are a fine teacher.

The Howling Banshee looks incredible!
Subbed 👍
Starting with stippling on the primer… I had no idea it could work and certainly not to such an amazing level. Mind blowing.
what paint did he start with?
pale grey blue: 48 , Richard Gray : 2
I really like your style, it has a gritty, real tone to it.
I watched this on my TV and even blowing that tiny model up so it's 75cm tall on the screen, the paint job still looks so good.
Beautiful colour composition
Might have to use this kind of process/work-up when I paint up Jain Zar.
Thank you for explaining your method for the wraithbone armour
Just incredible. Mind blown.
Amazing work dude!
Amazing ad always!!!
Amazing tut Rich, keep them coming love your explanation on styles of painting

Well, I only have 15 of these to paint, may aswell start now
Richard Gray doesn't paint wraithbone; he waves a paintbrush and sings it into being

I couldn't find your mephiston painting video. I wanted to see a saturated red video that didn't use pink :)
I've just watched you do it and i dont know how you did it 😂

I get so much out of these videos
I am working on my NMM and I am having an issue with my yellow being very desaturated, and I am losing the effect. Any suggestions?
'You don't want to paint a whole army this way' challenge accepted 😉
let us know how it turned out in 2045 ;)
@@dmeep 😂😂😂
What brushes are you using ? They look superb. Always a perfect tip on them.
probably either Windsor & Newton Series 7, or something from Artist Opus
Hi. What's your setup? You must be using a magnifying glass, are you?
I use a headset sometimes as I get eyestrain. It's just a cheap on that straps on my forehead. I'm pretty short sighted though so don't really need it, but I find as I've got older that my eyes definitely feel it!

Another fantastic tut! Do you have to use magnifying glasses? I have trouble focusing on such small details even though I have 2020 vision.
I think the "swirly thing" is called a Glaive.......only because it looks like the weapon from Krull
Its a Triskele. A Glaive is a type of Halberd.
Really nice tutorial on a beautiful mini :) , but the intro sound is obnoxious, always have to turn the volume off
