- Sofia Vergara stands her ground! On the Spanish talk show, 'El Hormiguero,' Sofia Vergara claps back at host Pablo Motos after he seemingly makes fun of her accent.
She’s one of the most talented, hard working boss ass woman in Hollywood. The fact that people STILL get on her about her accent is crazy!! She’s gotten so much better then it’s almost easy to understand her. Her English is great so people need to stop being jerks and commenting on things people can’t fix. If someone can’t fix something in 5 seconds then don’t mention or bring it up. Too many people love to judge but I’m glad she’s over it and claps back every single time!!

Her accent was her selling point, she made fun of her own accent, she has used her accent to create those situations. The thing is she follows in the USA, but her she reacted differently.

@@92palomac They were not having fun, he was. You can't claim it was a joke between two parties, when the supposed 2nd person part of it, never laughed and immediately called them out on it. Joking about other people can be funny if it is a situation where that is deemed acceptable, like with friends, family, or likeminded guests. Sofia certainly was not enjoying the joke, otherwise she wouldn't have said anything, as she regularly enjoys jokes during interviews all the time. So it was in fact disrespectful. He should've read the mood.
Not all jokes work with all crowds, if you can't even grasp that at such an age, you need to grow up and go back to school. Adjusting to different environments and people, is the most basic skill any MATURE adult needs to have, and he obviously lacks it.

As I said before, the host doesn't speak English, and he is always interested in the way Hollywood stars say words in English because they sound very different to him (so his question was more like a compliment)

As a Spanish I must say that a lot of people in Spain wishes this show to end or at least the host to disappear from daily tv because of his repetitive misbehaviour for years with a women specially. I felt embarrassed. This does not represent the Spanish society. Sofia eres la mejor. Muchos mas existos y disculpa el mal rato. Muchisima gente en España aplaude tu reaccion en el programa!❤

To know a second language is an amazing feat. I’m an assassin with the English language and abhor anyone that corrects a less fluent person. You’re not trying to help them, you’re letting them know you know better. That’s the only time I chime in and “communicate” on them…

He was trying to make fun of her during all the program but unfortunatly for him, Sofia didn't hold back. I'm happy he finally recieved a bit of what he does everytime a women goes tho his show.
Oh I liked the show a lot...the format I mean, I've seen a few episodes only and it was always so funny. So sad and dissapointing to hear he's so rude and disrespectul :(

It means that person speaks more than one language and you probably DO NOT.
I thought the person making fun of her accent was an American but it being another Spanish speaking person is even crazier.

That line in modern family when she says “Do you even know how smart I am in Spanish?” Always broke my heart. I can’t imagine what it’s like to have everyone think your intelligence is directly correlated to your ability to speak English. I wish I could speak more than one language. I’m always impressed by people who can speak multiple languages. I always feel insecure if I can’t speak to someone if they don’t speak English because I feel like I should know a common language like Spanish. But most people are the opposite and talk to people who don’t know English like they’re stupid…. Speaking English is by no means a barometer of intelligence.
Listening to her speak so beautifully in her native tongue makes me even more impressed by her comedic skills in English. She's pretty amazing, so the joker trying to make her look bad comes off as real jerk.

As a Spanish, I'm more than happy that Sofía Vergara's disastrous interview has gone viral. More people on the Hollywood entertainment industry should be aware of what a terrible show 'El hormiguero' is and, luckily, they will stop appearing on it.
This video leaves out the fact that he was poking fun at her the whole interview about her appearance amongst other things and this was the point that she was over it.

Her accent is strong, but her English is near perfect. Watching her on AGT where it’s more spontaneous, she has a facility with the language where she does not have to grasp for words, and her vocabulary, syntax, and grammar are on point. Plus, as you can see from the video, she’s quick-witted in either language.
Good for her, always so classy and proud of where she came from. This guy shouldn’t be allowed on television, making fun of someone’s accent/where they’re from is beyond disrespectful. His behaviour was unacceptable but in her typical style turned it around on him.

This frustration usually comes from working really hard to improve oneself and trying their best. We can't keep bullying someone for something they don't have much control over.

I think ppl with accents is more interesting to listen to when they speak. It shows someone is trying to learn a language and that alone should be praised and not called out.

Spaniards sometimes have superiority complexes with Latinos. Sofia is an accomplished actress and one of the highest paid on TV ever. Clearly Americans enjoyed her on Mod Fam and now on AGT so she knows how to differentiate between light teasing and actual mockery.
Am so thankful for this. I was growing up in a tims when having "broken" English was something my grown teachers would openly tell my classmates not to make fun off "because its a real issue". Thankfully things have gotten better but the feelings i get in many situations about my accented English is like a constant bladt from the past. Specially when going for bew jobs with people i don't know. The thoughts telling me am never going to get a job or a promotion because of my accent is something i deal with EVEN when am already working the job. So am glad she pushed back openly about it and i just hope i can one day finally push those thoughts out.
Sofia is a prime example of an icon with a growing no fucks given attitude. The older she gets the less fucks she gives.

So glad she didn't take that crap! It really bugs me when people make fun of someone's accent. But it seems especially wrong for someone like Sophia who is fluent in a second language. She is beautiful, talented, hard working and smart. I would say this interviewer should spend more time thinking of questions for his guests so he doesn't have to resort to cheap shots.

People will be quick to point out others’ accents when they don’t speak themselves other languages at all unlike the person they criticize.
I think she pronounces it this way because it’s her brand, she has been in the US for decades, there shouldn’t be any doubt that she can speak without the accent

The accent doesn’t go away. I’m from Cuba and have lived in the US since I was 10. That’s 44 years, I still have an accent. Here in Miami we tend to switch from English to Spanish and vice versa in the middle of a conversation. Miami is a melting pot of different cultures and I love it.

Not a fan of the interviewer but imo I think he was being sarcastic because he doesnt have a good english level (as seen in talks with other internacional celebs). And in Spain we have a thick accent and we do say the 'r' in 'modern', so she obviously says the name of her show way better than us. Anyway, making fun of accents ain't ok, she's succeded internationally because she's bilingual, pablo isn't even good in his own language.

The people who make fun of her, I'd LOVE to see them learn a new language and speak it perfectly. She has an accent, what is the big deal? Many people do. I've heard much stronger accents, specifically from Indian people and no one says anything bout them.

I thought it was a wonderful interview, Sofía Vergara extraordinary, Pablo Motos splendid, a great sense of humor. Hispanic humor is like that, and Sofía, as a Hispanic, understood it that way. Other countries may not get that sense of humor, and that's what they're missing.
