I’m in the union working for a fab shop over here in Texas and this exactly what we do. Thanks for the tips I’m always up for learning more & keep educating myself for better
Let me share a couple tips with you!! 1st a piece of angle with a chain clamp on the pipe will let you fit that 90 up instead of down and make fitting easier 2nd spray some WD40 on the jack head and pipe to make rolling it easier and lessen the chance of it falling off them jack special when alone. stay safe out there buddy👍🏽
used that decades ago. Fittings can be different O.D and high low can be severe some times . There is a tool out there for 2-4 inch pipe sizes that does fitting to pipe and fittings to fittings in a vise grip format that will get you perfect space and hold one of the fittings . Ultra clamp can not do that ( fitter grips ). Austin has a pair of them
Thanks Austin, enjoyed the video and looking forward to next weeks video. Looks great and having a good time picking up what you are sharing with us. Stay safe and keep up the great videos. Fred.
My thoughts also; get everything fitted properly before the first tack. Less weld, less distortion. Also, looks a lot cleaner. Keep up the great content. 8010? Gonna have to try that one.
You are the man Austin, been an inspiration to me and i appreciate that you share so much detail. Of course i end up with more questions but nonetheless Gotta order up some of those thin soaps from your store soon! I like the idea of aiming smaller, aim small miss small.
The pipe you're using there is ERW (electric resistant welded) material and the more expensive as you mentioned is seamless, a higher test rated pipe 👍
Austin, I work for a transmission gas pipeline company. I’ve waited on welders a bunch- tie ins, sleeves, saddles for stopple machines, headers for hydrotests, hot cuts..A lot is done just so the welder can get in the hole and do what he or she does. No offense, but I think that is why there are many arrogant pipe welders.
My comment will tick a lot of people off, but have you ever read comments on a welding forum or instagram page? There are a lot of good, humble, talented pipe welders also. Thank you for the video. I aim to make each weld better because of your motivation.
Pipelinnerscloud and Rod Shield and G Strap make different styles of the head gear strap. My son has a 3D printer so I just measured the d shape of the head gear and printed it out and then sewn a two inch wide strap to them. Works great. I’ve always used the rubber band strap, this one is so much more comfortable and easier to adjust.
I know this is a dumb question, but what kind of hood is that? I'm tired of my heavy miller hood, and my pancake isn't always the best piece of equipment for the job
Mr. Ross, wondering what you know about the ua pipe/steamfitters? Local 11 is ours and i plan on joining. Do you know average pay. Work weeks, and general knowledge like that? I dont really want more that 50hrs a week but pipefitters just seems like my route.
Great project. A question, sense this is a big truck, big trailer, and big equipment parking lot bumper it looks like in some of those long runs of pipe you would need several "Tees" to go into the ground. Big stuff has a big push, and in one year, these long runs will look like a big snake.
See you bought a box of hyp rod 7010G . In the seventies that was the go to rod running it out from the bead to the cap . More liquid than the 8010 and put on a nicer cap if one knew the trick of long arcing, arc blow ,and rod angle . Did not fill as much as the 8010 . Pipe was manufactured starting back then and 8010 was the answer for that on grades 483 (X70) Procedures are out there to weld with 8010 from the bead out to the cap . And yes the bead can be run with 8010 with out undercut on the bottom and pass X-ray
That tool you call a pipe roller the structural world has one called a beam flipper it looks just like that only bigger to manipulate beams laying on a sawhorse and how we use it on beams as we put it on the web of the beam and pull back on it go on the direction we want the beam to lay on the horses

Not a pipeline weldor myself. Only pipe experience I have was 10" and 20" dredge pipe welding. Nice work!

Hi Austin, thanks for the instruction.
I really dig the clamp you used to hold the elbows, what's its name?
Can you put the 6" gar rail video in the description?
How do you stop the rod from sticking to the metal you are trying to weld?
awesome trick! thanksAustin... how much did the elbows cost?
I do a lot of lohi on pipe 6010 root and I fab just like that so it looks good for the customer
That’s interesting your pipe roller I use the same thing at work to flip tubing beams channel and angles I call it flip bar

No offense takin. I hear you. You are welcome to your opinion around here. I agree, I have met and worked with a lot of humble pipe welders myself.

Your welder's pipe roller is also a blacksmith's bending fork or scrolling fork. :)
Greetings from Honduras I would like to work as a welder's assistant
