Oh gee, tears in my eyes! All of this passion and hearful storytelling. Needless to mention her vocal skills! Hooray to the Brit! And what a creative and experienced pianist!
God but this girl is good...and the sad part is that I;ve never heard of her before. I thought I knew all the great singers out there but obviously I don;t . This lady is absolutely fantastic abd I can't wait to get her albums
Feeling some kind of way about her singing Miss Celie's Blues. I wonder if she watched the film, "The Color Purple," where the movie is taken from, so she could understand the basis of the song. Jazz is for everybody, of course, it is officially America's classical music. But more and more I see Jazz appropriated by people who make money from performing it where the musicians who created it and fostered it don't get the same type of money for the same gigs. I'm glad for this singer Polly Gibbons and she's doing quite well with her career. But I'm not totally impressed, because I can take you to any club in Harlem, New York, U.S.A., and you can hear singers even better than her. But hey, there's room for everybody's gifts, and I wish her well.
The less we include race in our discussions about jazz the better. For me it's always been the music. When questioned about why white Bill Evans was the pianist in his band Miles Davis was angry. No doubt there are singers around the world better than Polly just like there were singers better than Billie in her day. Jazz has been and should still be an art form that is color blind. I agree there is economic injustice in the world and more of it is racist than not. However, Resonance Records is a non-profit record label promoting America's only original art form. If Polly's art doesn't touch you so be it, if it does then applaud her.
@@billsnyder5275 Jazz cannot be an art form that is colourblind! As a jazz musician myself, it is my duty to know where Jazz comes from and it comes from the Black experience. It is also my duty as an educator to educate others regarding the creation of jazz and who should be getting credit for it. Black people created jazz and white people have made it so they were not credited for it. I suggest you go find a history book and read about the genesis of jazz!
Bel duetto voce e piano formidabili ❤❤
