It is a pity that GWM only provide HEV version instead of PHEV version in Australia, personally speaking, the PHEV version is far more technologically advanced than HEV version. Also, the V6 engine version is unavailavle as well.
I think Australian HEV suv is a better choice, taking into account both fuel consumption and power. PHEV needs to be equipped with charging stations when traveling long distances.
Technology wise Chinese Petrol cars are still 5-10 years behind well established brands, but their Electric and Hybrid cars are as good as if not better than any other reputable brand. After Haval H6 Hybrid Ultra now ordered Tank 500 Hybrid Ultra also.
I definitely want to see and drive one of these with a view to possibly buying. Those wheels and tyres look dreadful thoug! I wonder what aftermarket wheel & tyre sizes are able to be fit?
Hey Jerry, amazing review. I already booked one about a month ago here in Auatralia and when i saw some video online the rear passenger has a display which is hidden in the middle seat.Would you know if Aus and Nz not be getting that feature?
Massage is definitely better than the 300. It covers more area and has a lot more patterns as well. Not sure about the stereo as I haven’t got enough time to test it. It should be better in theory
@@JerryPanandCars Jerry, I just checked the GWM Oz website. Bummer same 18 inch wheels unlike those 20 inch chrome ones in just about every other market. After market ones (unless very expensive ones) brings safety and quality anxiety. Hope GWM makes the 20 inch wheels an option in Oz by the time I order mine around mid year.
@jamiegauci8955 well lmk if you do as I would love to know how it tows :) I would expect it to tow pretty well though, considering the torque, weight, wheelbase (exactly as long as a 300 series) etc seem well up to spec. Might need airbags tho for the rear suspension
That's a shame GWM had a real chance of being a market leader as the only ladder frame diff locked 4x4 that could run on electric only. 110km range was perfect to just enough to use it as a daily driver EV but with the hybrid for long trips and 3ton towing
@@rjwnz69 the cost of PHEV version (HI4T in China) is very high due to the 37kwh battery and much more powerful electric motor. The Australia price may be close to 80-90k, even though it will blow away the rivals which are much more expensive, but it's a big jump from current GWM cars in Australia and it takes a bit more time to build up the reputation in order to sell at that price, which i am sure GWM Will be able to soon
@@JerryPanandCars how are the safety feature such as elk compare to tank 300 ultra hybrid? There have been some complaints about it being too intrusive
Tank 500 rolled over here and no airbags deployed. I would wait for Ncap testing before considering this vehicle. ua-cam.com/video/5NASdBgZDOE/v-deo.html
@JerryPanandCars It rolled four times. What does it take to make the airbags deploy? They should deploy as soon as the car begins to rollover. See this example of a Volvo. ua-cam.com/video/M-BKC7R3nCI/v-deo.html
Honestly the price is reasonable. When you consider the amount of car, tech, luxury and (relative to its contemporaries) speed you are getting, the $65,000~ price tag for the base model is actually great value. Its closest competitor imho is the Ford Everest Sport V6, which is $80,000, and that is slower and with less gadgetry and luxuries. Sure the Ford is a more normal brand but if you're worried about quality from a Chinese vehicle then you should be equally worried about the quality of the Everest as they don't exactly have a reputation for quality, and the engine used in the Everest is a descendant of the infamous Jaguar/Land Rover TDV6 engine, the same family of engines found in the also infamous diesel Territory.
Cost and market demands. It will be probably at least 10k more than the current pricing. You may think it is fine but the general market may not. PHEV is very unpopular in these markets too. The market is flooded with Toyota Hybrids over the years and the public isn't very interested in PHEVs. Most of its competitors are not doing PHEV here.
This car is the reason why some lazy brands in Australia are afraid of the upcoming NVES.
why don't you say these brands directly🤣

Nah, we don't have that fancy rear seat middle console unfortunately.
Even in China, only the 5 seater trim has that.

the car is nice, but the overseas model for ultra you get 20 inch as standard? im not sure why aus nzd did not follow
It probably comes down to cost and ability to source them from the factory. It should be easy to get many aftermarket options though.

Which suburb in NZ where you made a u turn at 14:53?

Does it have USB ports for the 3rd row ?
Thanks for the comment. No USB for 3rd row if my memory is correct
Hi Jerry. Nice review. Can you confirm The Second And Third rows Can fully lay down flat? Any 220V power outlet Inside the car? Thanks
Thanks for the comment. Yes, they do lay down flat. I didn't see any 220V power outlet inside the car. Thanks
The 220v power outlet is on the right side when you are opening the back door
Can you confirm if you can fit child seats or booster seats in the third row ?

Not from the factory at this stage. Go for aftermarket options.

Why is this $10k more expensive in NZ, than in Australia?
$9k more. More tax, more transport cost, less competition. Other similar cars are more expensive here in NZ too.
Did you try driving it in Electric only? how was the range and power in electric mode?
This is actually a Hybrid (HEV) non-plugin. That means EV driving is only available at slow speed and there is no EV mode switch or EV range.
