@Dystractible some of it is. Thus far, it's the closest I've seen in other medical shows. The terminology is close. This clip shows a defibrillator that had metal used near an MRI. The magnet in the MRI were turned off. That doesn't negate magnets. It would destroy the machine and not provide the correct shock. All of that would have been done in a cardiac cath lab and performed by a Cardiologist. We do not cut a tracheotomy or any procedure that is that dangerous without a sterile field or with the patient awake. The only time that is done is if it's a life-threatening emergency. That typically happens on scene by the paramedic. I love House M.D. It television. It's not real life. I've only worked in emergency medicine for 23 years. I'm sure there are many things I haven't seen. I see new things regularly.

I remember in high school I had a tick rigjt up high on my leg, in the crease between your leg and your groin. It was part way through the day and I had started to feel unwell and my leg was getting sore and numb. During a class, it dawned on me what might be causing it as I was from a semi-rural area, and felt where I was feeling the most irritated. I could just feel this small smooth bump almost level with my skin. I pulled the leg of my scool shorts up and craned my neck to see, and could see the tick. I asked my teacher if I could go to the sick bay. She asked why, so I told her I didn't feel well. She refused. So then I told her I have a tick. Aside from the class tittering and laughing, she said I couldn't go to sick bay. So, I got my compass and went to work with the pointy end, making sure I got all of the tick out. Obviously once she saw what I was doing she asked what I was doing and demanded I stop. I did stop, after I finished getting all the tick out. And she still didn't let me go to the sick bay. By the end of the period, I was feeling better. By the end of the day, I was feeling alot better. Told my mum when I got home what happened. The next day she drove me to school and had a talk with the school principal. Apparently the teacher was called in and had a talk with the principal and my mum. The rest of that semester, whenever I had her class, she would only talk to me if she had to, but only that, no chit chat. Getting a tick is a serious thing. It probably wasn't the smartest thing I did in how I removed the tick, but by then it had probably been attached to me for 3 or 4 hours, possibly longer.
Are you saying the tick was sucking so much blood you felt sick? Because the danger of ticks is usually the disease they carry (Lime’s disease), not the blood sucking.
IIRC from my vet tech classes, its an inflammatory response to the ticks saliva, which can cause serious trouble with mearby nerves. Look up 'tick paralysis'.
It was a tick on her labia or something. That's why they didn't find the tick on initial exams because they didn't really have a reason to look there but House stopped an elevator while her bed was in it and voila he found it.
it was so careless of them to so easily discount a diagnosis that would perfectly explain all the symptoms, just because she had "2 comprehensive physical exams" - it's really easy to miss a tick, especially in hair or private places - it's so silly that they'd discount it without doing an extra even more comprehensive exam - they could have sent a few nurses to comb her through a few times JUST IN CASE.
It seemed less likely in this case because she was immunocompromised and never left her bedroom. What are the odds the boyfriend would not only get a tick, but leave it _inside_ her body?
I love the show as somebody who is immuno compromised has several chronic conditions Dr. house is the best doctor like do you want a doctor that just throws the book out the window and does everything to figure out what’s wrong with you even if it’s for his own mental satisfaction You don’t even care just figure out what’s wrong.

I ended up with Lyme as a kid and they couldn't find the target mark so it took them days to diagnose me. My mom being a nurse kept telling them it was Lyme but they kept claiming it was the flue even though I was at an almost fatal fever, couldn't hold any liquid or food in. Finally they found it under neath the privates, and probably wouldn't have if it wasn't for my mom
As a kid I ended up with a uterine defect that caused pain so severe i couldnt eat, drink, or go to the bathroom because i was vomiting. Went to the ER closest to me and they said it was a UTI because they didnt give me enough fluids for an ultrasound. They wanted to quickly discharge me and didnt do the test again. My mother, a nurse, called bullshit and drove four hours to a children’s hospital. They couldnt figure it out so they sent me to their main hospital. A week later they figured it out.
