      How can someone "insult laziness" ? It's not a quality, it's a flaw, and a very very big one, he was not insulting but throwing facts in the face of evebody, and it was nothing more than what we all think about fat people, if that fact insult someone them they are just trying to justify theyr own laziness trying to act like it's ok to deform yourself eating like an elephant.
      Of course in this case it back fires on Chase face, the girl was fat because of a disease and not for laziness.
      But that is not the case for most people.

    Fun fact: This episode saved life od 33 years old woman form Poland. She gain 18 kg in 6 months and no doctor was able to diagnosed her (she had other symphtoms too) One day Małgorzata saw this episode and understood that she has Cushing.
    Sad thing is that she went to many doctors after that and no one belived her that she has Cushing (doctors in Poland hate when patient is diagnosing herself) Even specialist in Cushing dissese. Even specialist in Cushing dissese told her to eat less. Finally, she belived that she don't have Cushing and that she is fat because she eat too much. One day she went to the doctor prof. Grzegorz Zieliński and he diagnosed her with Cushing. Right after meeting with doctor she was scheduled operation. Now she is fine :) (sorry for my english, hope you understad the story)

    My mom had Cushing’s disease. At her biggest she was around 400lbs. It’s shameful how many doctors wouldn’t listen to her when she told them there was something wrong. No amount of diet or exercise helped her lose weight. She had high blood pressure, loss of bone density, the classic hump on her upper back/neck, debilitating migraines, and mood swings. She fell into a deep depression when she was sick and I honestly don’t know how she did it. If we went out to eat people would look at her so disgusted. It took 2 surgeries to remove the entire tumor she had on her pituitary gland. She’s much better now but is on so many medications still.

Day to day social conversation yeah I agree its a dickmove to randomly call people fat but in a life or death situation call me whatever and point out what you want, if its a symptom of something say it as it is. I can cry about the 'mean words and delivery of them' later if it means their blunt observation means they find the cause of my illness by pointing out im overweight. Ultimately its a fact being overweight causes a large list of health issues as well as being a symptom of illnesses, yes there are kinder ways to word it than Chase but its a fact. Im not a fan of the sugar coat method, Id rather be told it straight then fix the issue instead of a doctor who would tip toe around me incase I get offended.

      Fat is unused calories. Eat less and you’re body wont make fat. Its a pretty simple concept.

    I wish more people treated obesity as a symptom more often. My dad's doctor almost killed him, because she was telling him all his issues were because he was fat. Turns out, he was fat because he was retaining 50 lbs of water in his body, which was because of his heart malfunctioning. And the heart was malfunctioning was due to her putting him on medication that could not be taken together. The mix of medication she put him on either caused, or exacerbated any preexisting heart conditions.
    Luckily after he called himself an ambulance and spent some time in intensive care, they figured out the problem and he's on a road to recovery.

    To me, this episode proved that Chase was actually a good doctor. Initially I had my doubts about him, and I didn't always like him, but him mentioning "what if it's a symptom?" meant that he was willing to look past his own myopic view of childhood obesity to get the correct diagnosis. And he was right. House may not have ever been able to figure this one out if Chase hadn't pushed him in the right direction.

      I’d say he’s good for reconsidering his stance, but only that.
      People have died or had their lives destroyed because doctors refused to think beyond their biases and stand acting as “NOBLE GUARDIANS OF THE NOBLE HEALTHCARE SYSTEM!!!!!!!!! YE SHALL NOT TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE SYSTEM WHILE I STAND HERE, YOU DISGUSTING LOSER FREAK!!! Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go charge 1-3k to your insurance for the 8th time you’ve come here, because the 5 minutes I’ve spent mocking you for the 8th time is worth is.”
      I literally had a doctor walk in (I was freaking out because I had my period 3 times in a month’s span.) take one single look (you know where) and said aloud “Oh, you’re just fat.” And walked out.
      I didn’t see her the rest of the appointment. I was forbidden from taking any tests to see what may be the issue. It was the only time I ever had so many periods so quick, I may be sterile now, I don’t know and my mental state sucks so much I’m not going to go pay those freaks to confirm and then screw my mental state forever. That is only one of many incidents that have happened in my attempts to get help.
      So sorry, I don’t think kindly of doctors being stubborn and refusing to do any treatments because they think they can read your entire life by starring at your mid section. I think any who does so should be fired and blacklisted.

    I love watching the gears turn in House's head. I work on production lines at my work, and as one of the senior guys, I'm often called over to help diagnose and fix problems with said lines. Whenever I get stumped by something that's not obvious, I go into House mode and get those gears moving. It becomes a challenge to solve the problem.

    I developed Cushings as a result of being prescribed a corticosteroid medication. I literally gained 230 pounds in less than 3 months. I've never had a weight issue, I was planning on running my third consecutive NYC marathon later that year, I've always been athletic. It was seriously mind blowing. The minute I weaned myself off of the steroid based medication, the weight gain stopped. Thank goodness I have a decent diet which allowed me to lose weight. But, it takes a good amount of time to lose over 200 pounds. I still have 50 pounds to go. But, the skin breaks from gaining so much weight so quickly will probably require plastic surgery.

    Doctors are very quick to blame the illness on Obesity, when all too often it really is a symptom. I was active and on a "diet" my entire life. My sleep patterns became more and more out of whack, weight piled on despite healthy eating and being at the gym 6 days out of 7. turns out I had both a pituitary tumor and PCOS. Both mess up the hormones. Took until I was 40 to discover any of it. I once had a dr. explain away my fatigue and intense body wide pain caused by low grade temps as being "over weight and over worked." I looked at him and said dude, "I have been over weight and over worked my whole life, you need to come up with a better answer than that." Found a new dr. who put many of the pieces together: severe anemia, extremely low vitamin D and a slew of other symptoms. Turned out obesity was one of them. Moral of the story, you know your body, listen to it and find a doctor who will listen and actually think.

      Yes, but 70% of America does not have gland issues. You and this patient are the exceptions.

    • @manictiger
      @manictiger 3 роки тому +4

      Both sides are right. Doctors need to think more and not allow shallow appearances to dictate their logic. And lazy fat people need to be less lazy and stop blaming "glands" when it's not that.
      Every obese person I've seen eats and craps like a pig. I am polite enough to not say anything, but I'm just seeing dollars go in their mouths and into the toilets. I know this, because I occasionally fix plumbing for them. They eat high quantity, low quality garbage and it's amazing to see grown adults do this to themselves, then complain about health problems.
      People's ridiculous appetites are fueled by sugar (legalized crack), and too many carbs. Cut these down and replace them with meat, vegetables, olive oil, lentils, barley (not flour, I mean actual grains), etc. and watch them lose the weight. Also fast often. The body needs to reset so it doesn't just keep increasing portion sizes ad infinitum.

      Doctors just don't care lol if a person is on a diet and does exercise and still can't lose weight it's obvious there's something wrong with them, but doctors and people in general will always call the person lazzy and tell them to eat less

    • @lucyn3771
      @lucyn3771 3 роки тому +11

      @@Junior-nt5nr there are a plethora of cases where health care professionals dismiss what people feel based on their appearances, and make diagnosis unfounded by factual evidence and factual history ( non-emergency based symptoms) .
      demonizing people who have obesity or are not skinny is not going to help people in any way nor is normalising the disgusting behaviour they endure from other people because of the size of their body. They are human beings and deserve to be treated the same way people treat average, skinny, fit and everything in between. It is great that you are not a doctor, I am almost certain you would have received.
      You can not overlook somebodies charts and symptoms and say the reason they are sick is because they are fat, if something is not treatable because the person has obesity and it is risk, is completely different to not treating somebody because they have obesity, or not treating them like a human being for the same reason.

    I really enjoy this younger House. He genuinely seems to care about the patient, as much as his puzzle, maybe even more than the puzzle. He genuinely doesn't want the girl to suffer or die, and that matters more than his personal enjoyment. House honestly lost sight of that as time went on. He didn't notice how much more he started to invest into the game more than the saving of lives.
