Watching your old videos and comparing them with your current ones definitely shows how much your channel has evolved over time. These old videos are still good but your newer ones definitely relates to current trends more.
This is a terrific topic and is something I've been struggling to figure out lately. Your advice is great. I've also been feeling that having leather with some sort of texture can help to make dressier styles of shoes work with jeans. I don't think shoes need to be textured to work well, but I think this component is part of the puzzle of making this pairing work.

Did you plan on wearing dress shoes and jeans to an interview?
Some newer companies that are more younger generation stick to much more casual dress codes. It is not uncommon to interview in jeans, casual dress shoes, and a blazer. This is of course mostly in tech companies but others as well. Ultimately you need to research the company to see what will fly.
I'm sure this is intentional, but I must commend you on your public speaking. You speak very clearly and assertively, are friendly and polite. You are as much of a role model for me as a public speaker as well as your dress advice!

I've always worn mocasins with dressier pants (chinos) and shirts, untucked for more informal, and tucked for formal... after watching a bunch of your videos, today i bought my very first dress shoe (a derby style, open lace brown with a little bit of a blackish patina towards the front.) When i saw the video and i saw the type of she you recomend for jeans, its almost the same, so i highly thank you, i've leraned a ton. Plus, now i'm looking into tailors to get my sport's jacket and my suit specially a little bit tailored so its more close to my body (tall and skinny, so i want more of an italian look, plus, i have italian heritage).

Today... I wore bamboo colored derbys with teal jeans and money green socks. A medium teal undershirt and a gorgeous print Hawaiian/tahitian shirt. Capped off with a white kangol flat cap. Accessorized with a pair of tortoiseshell sunglasses. Looked amazing. The bottom line is, take fashion chances. The best thing that you can wear is confidence.

Great video. I agree with everything other than the idea of not wearing oxfords with jeans. That can definitely be done, provided you're careful. For instance you could easily get away with a deep mahogany cap-toe oxford (especially if it had some subtle broguing) with jeans. You could pull off black oxfords to, but they'd have to be much more casual, maybe heavily brogued with wingtips. However the jeans would really need to be perfect. Both of those looks would pair well with a jacket.

My wife got me a pair of Allen Edmonds McCallisters in black for my birthday. I don't wear suits often so I have been pairing them with my All American classic jean and it works well for me.

I don't know when did this set up started. But, back in since school I actually pulled this off. Blue short sleeve semi fit polo, matched with denim pants and dress shoes. They were doubtful when they heard my match up. But dang, they found it nice. Thinking about it now, still wows me that I pulled that off, during that time.
I appreciate well dressed men so much more, I was able to use your advices and help my father and brother, they look much better now and they both feel very confident and happy.

I also live in a very rural secluded area so this video was particularly great. Probably gonna do some dark denims with the sports coat now that's it's too cold for slacks and blazers.

Fairly slim cut raw denim and black derby shoes with dark blue sole and dark brown welt. Easy and simple! One shoes can be used for almost anything.

I recently started wearing a nicer, more casual pair of brown wingtips with jeans along with a Ralph Lauren blue blazer or tweed sport coat. I picked up a pair of nice pair of brown Chukkas today to have more options.
I teach college so on lecture days I wear usually a nicer pair of slacks, dress shirt, maybe a tie and a sport coat or sweater. On Lab days I like to wear nice jeans, the shoes I described and a sport coat, blazer or sweater a dress shirt and maybe a tie.

I wore a pair of black cap toe bluchers with black jeans and a lilac oxford today on my day off. Went with black for a slimming look (yeah, I've got a few extra pounds to lose), but the lilac for my lighter skin tones. Too hot to wear a jacket at 88 degrees in Charlotte today.
Interesting the different definitions between countries. By which I mean, do americans really consider loafers to be dress shoes?
The uninformed do. However 90% of America is the uninformed. Most Americans think any type of leather shoes is dressy as I've seen driving mocs with suits. However loafers to us are like Chelsea boots to Aussies and the British, dressy casual, can be paired with some business attire but not others. Where are you from friend?
I'm British, despite the fact the loafer originates in Britain, it is a house shoe or a running errands shoe; smart casual at a stretch, haha. It never caught on as a dress shoe as it did in the US, despite a few people trying the look.
dokirb Bass Weejuns pushed and marketed the shoe as a dress shoe and we Americans totally bought it. Honestly, I still feel like it's a casual shoe, only a click above sneakers but there are those who wear it with a suit. How dressy would you say Chelsea boots are for you gentleman?
The Chelsea boot, I would say it can certainly be dressed up and worn with a suite to the office or the like, but not to a formal event (black or white tie). I would also say it depends on the boot itself, high quality is a must and the normal leather shoe colour rules should apply.
dokirb I agree. I personally feel dark leather chelseas can be paired with a suit. Of course Americans think anything British is dressy so we put them on an even higher pedestal but most understand it's oxfords for black tie. Americans also understand loafers can only be dressed up so much, never being worn to a funeral. You'd be surprised however to see dark brown penny loafers with a navy suit. I embrace the American culture of dressing up the loafer but I certainly cap out a lot sooner than most unaware Americans.

Can I not wear oxfords/balmorals with jeans if they're wing tip brogues? I did that today, with gray jeans, and a dark chili AE McAllister, and I felt like it went well, at least color-wise.

For a bold look that actually works, try patent leather tuxedo shoes with indigo or black jeans.
I’m a fan of double monk strap dress shoes with jeans either black or walnut works for me.
I could use some help with that, because I work out regularly my thighs are pretty big. To the point where most pants don't fit with that trimmer look I need the baggier fit just so the pants don't rip.

Dunno, Personally I love regular tapered jeans specially heavy jeans 14oz or more raw denim. up to 20-25oz with black wingtip derby brogues. dress shirt open collar usually wear boots tho docs 1460's

As I’ve gotten older, I have switched from Levi’s to Lee, for a number of reasons but primarily because I like the offerings Lee has been putting out for men in the last 5-10 years or so.

Dress shoes and jeans always look better and casual with a sport coat.
You CAN wear saddle oxfords with jeans--those would be the only Oxfords that I would wear/have worn with jeans. But I wouldn't get carried away. I have some nice navy/ivory saddles that I love to pair with some dressy jeans.
+chirhomin A better style to go with is the Blucher, Loafer or the Derby dress shoe style. The shape, construction and vamp placement of these shoes lend a more casual vibe than compared to Oxfords.
Out of curiosity, would you ever consider saddle Oxfords for an outfit, or are they too flashy, in your opinion. I usually wear mine with seersucker.
