  • Fender really has no clue what it is doing with the Jaguar, and I will not be heckled into submission by people who have no credibility.

    Honestly, there are countless versions of the Tele and Strat. Reissues with vintage appointments, standards with modern tuners, bridges etc. The Jazz and Jaguar simply don’t have the same popularity as their older siblings. Therefore less variations. The player II is a simpler version of a more complicated guitar. Regarding the bridge movement, this was originally done at the request of Johnny Marr (on his signature model) to get more sustain with smaller break angle. I guess they felt this would appeal to a broader array of players. Anyway, variety is the spice of life. I say own them all or as many as you can. I would but I play lefty. Fender has made countless mistakes since Leo and George started in the Late 40’s. Still may favorite brand though.

    "You're too insignificant to have an opinion on this", what an elitist and stupid thing to say, Fender don't make money off the big celebrities they give guitars too for free, they make money off the thousands of "little guys" who are passionate about the instruments they sell. You're 100% in the right here, I love the jaguar too and think it's completely stupid what fender is doing

    In my opinion, what makes a Jaguar:
    - 24” scale
    - Long scale tremolo tailpiece
    - Jag/JM (even mustang is acceptable) bridge
    - Jaguar pickups (why would anyone change this?)
    - Full Rhythm and Lead circuit
    You could change literally everything else about the guitar except these things and it would still be a Jaguar, and they STILL managed to fuck that up.

    Nobody is on anyone’s payroll- there are just MANY people out there who don’t realize that their thinking has been captured by marketing, and they get uncomfortable when this is pointed out
    I can’t understand how your thoughts on the Jaguar are considered wrong- they seem blatantly obvious to me

    Personally I feel like putting this neck with the rosewood fingerboard and vintage tuners/proper logo onto an original Player series would be an awesome guitar. I like having a humbucker at a modified bridge, proper offset jangle from the tailpiece being further away, and I don't care for the rhythm circuits. With that being said, the pickups on this are a disgrace, it should still have a rhythm circuit and pickup selectors if it's gonna have single coils, the tailpiece is in the wrong position, and they shouldn't come with Mustang bridges stock. I have no idea what a "Player" series Fender Jag is at this point but it's a joke.

    The only (kind of?) solution to this issue is to get a MIJ Fender Traditional II Jaguar. Even still, Fender USA currently produces ZERO actual Jaguars.

    I've been contending that the Vintera II could've just been a slightly less rizzed up Johnny Marr Jaguar but Fender are lazy as fuck (note: changing some CAD files and doing some more R&D particularly)
    That you got a ton of ad hominem about YOUR opinion is fucking sad, because as an offset dork of many years, I *legitimately cannot fault your take because it's objectively correct*

    Only like the Strat in this series because it's the only one they kept OG. The rest belong in the paranormal series.
    Im really rooting for Fender but wish they knew how badly it damages how the series is perceived for working musicians when you make a guitar with half its tools missing..

I think will be GREAT if you have the chance to try and play one of the new player II Jags (try it in a Guitar center maybe) so you can supply us more valuable feedback about it... last year I was very near to buy a player series I Jaguar.... 1st video I have seen of yours. Agree with pretty much everything you said.. the era of quality affordable Fenders and Squiers ended with the vintage modified years ago. It’s all hit and miss now. They’re just re-hashing the same old shit now.

    I get the jag was designed for heavier strings, but 7s work for Billy Gibbons. I wouldn't say he has baby hands. Why work yourself harder for little tonal difference on other guitars? For bragging rights? Lol

  • @ej8736
    @ej8736 2 місяці тому

    I’m not sure this is some type of false thing but I think some of the design choices were inspired by the Johnny Marr jag, closer bridge, blade switch, it kept the high pass switch and added in series. Still different enough from every other fender model, because what makes a jag a jag is that filter switch not the rhythm circuit because the jazzmaster exists.

    Jake, you are significant. You play music out in the public, you teach music, you work at a music store, and you provide the best music and gear knowledge you can for many others in this world. Your life, and world, is music and your family. Thank you again for your honest opinions and all that you do for the music community. I am usually one of the first people to view and like your videos because I like your varied content and your honest opinions that you share with us. I have respect for all that you do. I don't have a lot of respect for most people in this world these days. You have earned my respect because of who you are, and the life values you uphold for yourself and others in this community.
    I recently put a vintage 1962 -1964 Gibson 8.14K P-90 in the bridge position of a Starcaster strat. But it is still a three single coil pickup guitar. As I feel a Strat build should be for me.
    Upgraded pots and 5-way switch. Neck and bridge are from a G.M. Fat Head SSS (Neck, Middle(RWRP)bridge) INVADER STYLE Cream Set that I got on Ebay. I moved the volume switch about 3/8" in the pickguard to put the P-90 in. I used 250K pots. Two different tone caps(.047, .022) and tones are wired in series so that you can use the lighter tone or the darker tone separately or both at the same time to add up to .069 tone cap value. And all three pickups have tone adjustment. Replaced the all-maple neck with a rosewood fretboard style from another Starcaster and used Fender locking tuners. This combo works well if anybody has the ambition to do a similar build.

      @@BigJakeMusic I went to premier guitar site in the DIY Mod garage and followed the shielding single coil pickups and the shield single coil pickup covers articles. Except where he put the shielding tape up inside the pickup cover, I put mine right on top of the pickup and put the tape over the end of the bobbin so it sticks right to the tape around the coil windings. This way the covers can be changed without more soldering. I shielded the cavities and the pickups with conductive adhesive copper tape. Quiet as a mouse until you put some gain into that P90. Then it is just power you hear and no 60 cycle hum. I put the gain I want into the amp with the volume on ten with the P90. Using a Peavey Envoy 110 Transtube model. Get that distortion and roll back the volume and it cleans up well. I am a beginner player but an experienced restorer/repairer/builder(assembler?). I really like this guitar. It does sound great. If I lived close, I would bring it to you to check out. Have an awesome day!

    So what’s Vintage Modified compared to Classic Vibe? I have a Classic Vibe Jag and Jazzmaster but I don’t really like either one. I think I’m going to grab a Vintera.

    • @bumblefritz
      @bumblefritz 2 місяці тому

      I have a couple Clasic Vibes and a couple Vintage Modified. Granted mine are the older ones from 10+ years ago. In my experience the CV's are a little nicer and a little more refined (parts feel less cheap, a little nicer fretboard edges, etc.) I've made a couple upgrades to my VM's but my CV's have remained pretty much untouched. Both series are good, I love and regularly play my VM's but if I were presented with the same guitar from each line to try, it's likely I would pick the Classic Vibe.

    • @Highland_Paddy

      You may not have to get vintage-style with the other models to get a similar basic model, but you do actually have to get something like a Vintera to get more accurate vintage specs on Strats and Teles [and probably Jazzmasters?] Some of those specs the average modern player might not WANT, such as the under-the-neck truss rod adjustment issue. The old style tuning pegs are maybe nicer, tho. If they only issued Vintera Jaguars [at reasonable prices] and they were more close to what is classically considered a Jaguar, you probably wouldn't be making a third vid right now. The two Squier models offered what you discussed, the one is closer to a Vintera already and the other is just a cheap guitar?

    • @Highland_Paddy
      @Highland_Paddy 2 місяці тому

      Yes, the strings may be the wrong weight, but Fender doesn't send out the right weight strings on the guitar or some instruction manual about any of this. Again, good thing I don't work for a company that expects you to understand their product when they don't EXPLAIN their product, but I don't use 11 or 12 strings, either.

    • @Highland_Paddy
      @Highland_Paddy 2 місяці тому

      I might switch to 10 but so far don't like 10 much what little I have used them. Again, lead guitar also not so much played the same as 1962 anymore, either, that Dick Dale might have shredded heavier ones but doubtful too many others.

    • @Highland_Paddy
      @Highland_Paddy 2 місяці тому

      Most guys swap out the bridge now, but you said the one model comes that way now already, but I think that was the Affinity? Not really a model that any semi-pros would bother with.

    • @Highland_Paddy
      @Highland_Paddy 2 місяці тому

      Most beginners won't know that they may have to get the nut filed to fit bigger strings, either. Most of them don't want to pay the GC guy to string the guitar and have never HEARD of set-up procedures. They get a geetaw in a box for X-mas and they plug it in and play it until something goes wrong if somebody is showing them what chords and things are. Again, not too many of these would go to Jaguar as their first choice, but if it's an Affinity for cheap, might be what they end up with. I don't know whom buy the Player version as their starter guitar or what they might expect because that's a pretty big price difference.
