    You should not be moving the back end of the drill in a circular motion while drilling out the hole. It causes the hole to be wallowed out, which you can see that on the first hole. If the drill bit is not big enough, go buy the right one. You don't use a brad point drill bit for increasing a hole size. It has no way of centering itself in the existing hole and can really chew things up. Use a regular tip drill bit for this operation. The tuners should all be in line with each other. You should be able to lay a straight edge against the edge of those tuners, one the back side, and have the straight edge be flush with all six tuner edges. These are all out of alignment with each other. I would have used some wood chisels to clean up those pickup cavities, and they would have turned out less chewed up looking. These observations are only for people that are really picky about how mods/builds turn out. Everyone is not as picky as me and this is not intended to criticize Jake or anybody else. We all have different ways of doing things and as long as it turns out good enough for you, that is all that matters. This guitar sounds great and works fine the way it is. It looks good, also. And Jake is super happy with it. I am just an extreme perfectionist, and maybe only other extreme perfectionists should be heeding my observations. A lot of times, good enough is good enough. I just repainted a guitar with $178 worth of paint, and it did not turn out perfect. Some areas I did not get the paint thick enough and the sanding/buffing made some areas where the underlying paint layers showed through. They at least look like normal wear or fading. But there is no easy touch-up in candy paints, and I am satisfied enough with the way it turned out that I am not going to spend that much again to try and get it perfect. I figure the guitar brought its own mojo to the paint job. Others have liked it also, the way it is. Even an extreme perfectionist can be happy with imperfection. I am learning to be. So, everybody, do what you do in your own way. That is what this hobby is all about.

    I completely agree with you, when I first saw this I thought this would be a nice upgrade to my Squier Classic Vibe but when I saw it didn’t have the correct pickups, no rhythm circuit, no strangle switch, and just a 3 way switch I thought what’s the point? My Squire has excellent build quality, and yes I’ve had American built Fenders and other guitars. It used to be you had to do a bit of work to a Squier to make it playable, like filing sharp fret ends, but that’s not the case with mine, all I did was lower the action to my liking and put a little heavier gauge strings on it and I love it. Of course I’ve had people tell me "you’re lucky, you got a good one" which may be true but I’ve tried out different more expensive guitars of the same model and there’s good and bad at that level also so try before you buy. IMHO the Classic Vibe is a steal for the price and I even got mine for $100 off on sale.

    • @DaleRobertSzyms
      @DaleRobertSzyms День тому

      I’d also add that the Squier Affinity Series Jaguar is a good deal for basically the same guitar as the Fender version for less than half the price and as cheap as it is I would have no problem using it as a base to mod.

    Galeazzo Frudua has a series of videos that describes the mechanics and physics it would take me forever to explain. FYI you don’t have to have the back end so tight it can be raised as high as you want because a floating trem is always in perfect balance between strings and springs, if you think about it makes sense , if one was greater then the other it would but because they are equal in stays in place.

  • @bluwng
    @bluwng 3 дні тому

    Physics tells you why you can’t perfect tuning stability all the lubricants just minimize error but by law it will never eliminate it. The tremolo as a system will remember the last state it was in , eg if you dive and tune it’s new state is in a dive mode if you do anything other than dive then it is not in its home state, if you dive you reset. You can setup with pull ups or bend and tune but it will only function in the state you applied you will never get perfect tuning for all three bends, pull up and dives. What you described can not give you perfect tuning the biggest fix you can do is use locking saddles or find a way to lock the strings in the block(. A guy by the title Trem-Doctor has a Strat block that locks the strings in the block.). Note a floating bridge requires the front end of the bridge plate to not make contact with body you see this on two post systems and that is all you did by raising the front screws on this unit.

    For installing the trem springs, loosen up the claw so it's close, but not quite unscrewed and still has plenty of screw attached to the wood. Much easier to hook the springs on, then retighten. As far the old bridge hitting the cavity, loosen the claw so the trem block isn't so close to the cavity, intonate and adjust the action. Or, a brass tremblock would work as well.

    I don't think I totally agree with locking nuts. I have Floyd Rose guitars, and they have a locking nut. They do not have any additional physical limiters or stop devices. They are full floating. So, they do not always return 100% to the same in-tune position. I have a strat with a Super-Vee Bladerunner tremolo and the Super-Vee Mag-Lock tremolo stabilizer. I set it up as full floating. The instructions suggest using spacers under the string trees to lessen the downward pressure of the strings against the nut slots. This is to allow the strings to move more easily back and forth through the nut. I didn't want to space the trees higher, so I just moved them both further away from the nut, which decreased the break angle and still lessened the string tension at the nut. If you are playing a chord and use the tremolo, your fingers all move back and forth with the strings when you use the tremolo, as the strings move back and forth through the nut slots. I also have the correct nut files and made sure none of the strings bind in the nut. There is the possibility of increased wearing of the nut slots by the strings sawing the nut material when they are allowed to move so freely back and forth, however there is less tension at the same time, which decreases that wear. So, there's that whole conundrum to ponder. The Mag-Lock brings the tremolo back to the same place every time and still allows for a full floating tremolo. The combo of the Mag-Lock, the non-binding string/nut work, and the lessened string pressure at the nut, all work together to allow this guitar to stay in tune better than any of my other guitars that have full floating tremolos, with or without locking nuts. So, I have a 1 guitar proof that the locking nut is not necessary in all setups. I have the Bladerunner, stock fender style tremolos, Floyd Rose tremolos and a Bigsby style tremolo. The Bigsby style tremolo comes in as the next best for coming back to tune, without any other devices or limiters. But it is not full floating. It is dive only, by design. Most tremolos that are limited to a diving direction only, will be better at returning to an in-tune position, as it has a solid stop position that the springs will always return the tremolo to. That's my two penny observations for the day. Best to you all.
