  • In this video I'll show you how you can diagnose a slipping ac compressor clutch due to bad bearing, seized ac compressor, weak compressor coil, corroded wiring or connectors but also why you get cold air at high speeds or why you only get cold air at high rpms. I'll share with you which condition is due to a problem with your AC condenser fans and which one could mean you have a weak or bad ac compressor or are low on refrigerant.

The passenger side is usually first in line to get cooled through the evaporator. When the refrigerant is low there won't be enough cooling capacity to do the driver's side as well. Just buy a can of appropriate refrigerant WITH the gauge attached. Put the refrigerant in PER THE INSTRUCTIONS you'll probably see a difference. Next you'll need to determine why the system was low.

Great video. I had a 2002 Ford Ranger XLT (bought used) and when I would be driving, the AC would cool great. When I would be stopped (Stop sign or light), the cooling would noticeably be reduced altho still be putting out cool-ish air (65 degrees). A thermometer in the center vent confirmed this. When I would start moving again, the temp in the vent would drop to 40 degrees. I assumed I was low on refrig. (I had checked my condenser fan before). Not having a gauge set, I looked for other possible causes prior to taking it to a repair shop. I noticed that the gap between the clutch and the compressor pulley was rather wide. A UA-cam video showed that the gap should be about a business card thickness. Mine had a 3-4 card thickness gap. Took the pulley off and there were two spacer washers (shims) on the compressor shaft. Removed them and reattached the pulley and the gap was then a card thickness. AC worked fine for several years after!

That seems like a audi compressor, lol. Speaking of audis. My 01 s4, i topped it off. I have some Mastercool gauges from Amazon nothing too crazy $130. So when I topped it off it was 35 low side 240ish high side on a hot day, about 90. It worked pretty good about 44° on Max cool. About 2 weeks later it started acting funny it would take time for it to start blowing cold air. I turn on the AC and the pump goes on but it would blow hot air. After about 5 minutes of driving around I hear a door open under the dash and now it's cold air. But unless it's on lowest setting it eventually turns back off. Then if you put it back to lowest setting it'll eventually turn back on after you hear a flap opening. I have not rechecked pressures to see if there is a leak. I kind of just jumped the gun and asked a question, lol. Would you think this is a leak or a internal flap issue?

If your adding so much refrigerant, that means you have a big leak somewhere. I start with soapy water, windex etc. and spray all hoses and fittings, sometimes it’s easy to find the bubbles. If that doesn’t show anything then use a dye mixed with refrigerate. I’d Start with the easy method, hope this helps

I have a problem with my A/C where it doesn’t cool at all on startup even if I leave it idiling for half an hour. However, as soon as I drive for a couple minutes the compressor engages and the ac gets very cold. My car is a 2015 VW Golf GTI, could this be a bad sensor or is it a bad compressor? Because it also disengages and blows hot air over 75 MPH for some reason and doesn’t re engage unless I slow down and turn it off and back on.

i drive a 2004 Honda Accord V6. my ac makes some cold air when im idling (and more out of the driver's side on the dual system) but when i go down the road it makes a lot less cold air. i added some refrigerant to the system and stopped adding when the dial on the refill said i was halfway in the green. a coupole of minutes later, while it sat and idled, the overpressure pop off valve popped. took it to the shop and had the compressor replaced but it still doesnt get cold... it seems like if i put enough refrigerant in it to make good cold air then it gets overpressure as it heats up. the ac fans dont kick on soon enough and it builds too much pressure. then when the fans kick on it cools it down so much that there isnt enough pressure to make cold air. i feel like the fans should be kicking on and off more. if they did then it wouldnt get so hot and then get to much pressure from heat expansion and it would have enough to make cold air. what the hell is wrong with it? could it be the fans temp controller? any help would be appreciated since the shop i took it to said they couldnt find anything wrong with it so it "must be working like its supposed to." but its supposed to make cold air and doesnt, even when rpm is raised and especially doesnt when going down th road.

Thanks for the video. Is it possible for the AC pressure switch to cause the high speed of the not to come on? My AC turns on but the high speed never comes on and this problem started when water got into one of the three relays which was later replaced. I've changed resistor controlling the high speed as well but no solution. Could it be caused by a blown maxi fuse or pressure switch or the fan unit itself is faulty? I will really appreciate your response. I also read somewhere that the intake air pressure could also be responsible but I find it hard to believe, maybe because I'm not too knowledgeable about how the system works. I drive a Peugeot 406 with ew10 engine if that is helpful.
