You remind me of my daughter when she w a little girl. She grew up hearing music from the 60'sthrough now. When she was a year old she had trouble going to sleep,I would take her,put her into the car seat,and crank up Metallica,and drive around. In no time she would calm down and go to sleep. Keep on with your musical journey,there is so much more to discover.🤘🤘🤘🤘

Been listening to Metallica since 1985 and this is my favorite.
For me it’s just such an unusual arrangement and lyrically it’s amazingly strong and dark. The band’s musicianship on this is hardcore.

This song was ground breaking. At first Lars didnt understand why continue with the 4/4 but the arrangement was in James’ head. Simple yet powerful. Embellished by the bass intro from the late great Cliff Burton. Check out the live version from Day On The Green 1985. Also inspired by Ernest Hemingway novel of the same title

'For whom the bell tolls' is from a novel by Ernest Hemingway by the same name, which is about the spanish civil war.
This is one of those situations where the song title is what it is about. James is very read. It’s literally about For Whom the Bell Tolls, the novel.
They also made 3 songs about the Cthulhu Mythos (and one instrumental):
1) the thing that should not be
2) all nightmare long (technically the hounds of tindalos which wasn’t written by lovecraft but is considered part of the mythology)
3) dream no more

Great reaction. Please please please react to the live ‘85 version of this song featuring the great late and beloved Cliff Burton. He was their early bass player that helped develop their sound in their early days. He passed away tragically at a young age but is still a fan favorite (definitely my favorite). He was such a force on stage and if you watch the link below you will see what I mean.

Great reaction ladies , just a little back ground info , the song is based on the Ernest Hemingway novel of the same name. Also the beginning solo is all done on the bass guitar by Cliff Burton, who is one of the best bassists to ever play a cord. Suggestion off the same album, Metallica - Creeping Death live in Moscow '91 . You might recognize the song message and it's done in front of 1.6 mil people . One of the largest crowds ever!
