If you watch their "Ride the Lightning" performance from this same festival, there's a part in the middle that brings me to tears, where he just stops headbanging for a second, and looks out at the crowd, and this huge childlike smile appears on his face... 💔 Such a tremendous loss
Cliff was a beast! Thanks for the reaction. I recommend to watch his bass solo from first album, Anasthesia (Pulling Teeth). There's live recording from Chicago 1983. Quality of video is bad, but that performance really shows how he can do big things with bass. Also as a Bonus, their S&M2 collaboration with San Francisco Symphony Orchestra included the orchestras main double bass player performing his version of Cliff's solo as a tribute. Can watch that too, and see how band members and fans enjoy the spirit of Cliff and his memory. Also the full instrumental song from their third album, song called Orion, is very heavily on Cliff. That song actually was played on his funerals.
You should react to *The Warning.* It's 3 sisters who got their start with a viral cover of Metallica's 'Enter Sandman' - and 8 years later, their completely reworked cover is on Metallica's _Blacklist_ album. Try 'Evolve' from the 2023 MTV VMAs, or 'Disciple', or their newest 'S!CK'.
@TimberWolf762 I was just about to jump in here and give similar recommendations about The Warning. The Warning have a wonderful relationship with Metallica’s Enter Sandman. 1) They did a video cover in their basement a decade ago when they were 14, 12, and 9 that their father uploaded to UA-cam for the grandparents to see. 25M+ views later.... 2) Metallica invited Alessia Cara to participate in the Blacklist 30th Anniversary album during COVID. The international management agency that represents both Alessia and The Warning asked Metallica if both groups could be brought together for this project. The two groups wrote (Alessia in Canada, The Warning in Mexico), recorded, and produced an entirely new version of Sandman in only ten days that ended up being the lead track on Metallica’s anniversary album. The official music video for that is a great second video. 3) The Warning then did their Sandman version at a 2022 concert at the Teatro Metropolitan in Mexico City (aka CDMX). This live performance is epic.
Life long Metallica fan, my first Metallica concert was in1986 during the Master of Puppets Tour. Yes I am old 😂 I was fortunate to see Cliff play live and Master of Puppets made me a metalhead forever. BIRTH SCHOOL METALLICA DEATH \m/ 💀 \m/
Just to add. They were 22/23 at that time and had given us Kill Em All and Ride at that time. Just crazy. You as a bass player have to listen to ua-cam.com/video/2kdUJ5NAnTc/v-deo.html
Ah the glory years. I first saw them in 1985 with WASP and Armored Saint and then in 1986 with Ozzy. The last time I saw them was 1989 with Queensryche. I have not wanted to see them live since.
