a Night at Iron Horse Motorcycle Lodge - 2023 Ep 62

- I had a chance to catch up with laundry at Iron Horse Motorcycle Lodge. Near the Tail of the Dragon in North Carolina. I’ve never been here before and although a touch on the expensive side for my frugal budget the amenities seem well worth it. I did meet a few people including Debbie who is friends with Melanie and Greg who I saw at Two Wheels of Suches after meeting them two months before in Newfoundland at the Horizons Unlimited meetup. I do have wifi so I am able to track what’s going on with Hurricane Ian and am juggling plans for how to deal with the upcoming rain. Unfortunately Wheels Thru Time is only open on the weekends at this time of the year so it’s off to the Dragon.

Good video Jim take care be safe
Thanks Tom... settled in for the winter off the road and mostly just editing.
Iron Horse is a pretty cool place and so is Wheels Through Time. Hope you’re well Jim.
Pete
I had a short visit to Wheels Through Time in 2018 and was really hoping to spend a couple of hours this trip. With it not being open, I got to ride the Foothills Parkway which was pretty awesome. I think Iron Horse with a few other riders would be a great destination. Doing well Pete and looking forward to getting on the road next year for an extended period.
Fan number one from South Africa, keep us Old Guy on the St1300. Victor Salute ❤
Thanks Victor.
plan then plan again haha just go with it hahaha
Take Care
Ya gotta roll with weather and your state of mind. Some days it it just F-it and go in a random direction lol.
Careful with that zipper, Commando!
Very careful.
Probably 15 years ago I rode the dragon on a Harley Ultra towing a trailer and enjoyed it. I’m a 5’2” tall woman. 😂
Excellent! The Dragon is one of those things that riders should do... at least once in their lifetime to get an undeerstanding of why it draws so many. A little like Sturgis (which I passed thru a couple of days before the ralley started in '08). Are you still riding?
@@OldGuyonaBike Yes, I am! This was my 33rd year. There’s nothing like it, is there?
@@flhtcui1995 Congratulations... this is my 51st year... did not get a lot of miles in before I wreacked my bike this summer but planning to be on the road for at least another 3-4 months next year.
@@OldGuyonaBike Awesome! I commuted 35 miles to and from work every day until it would get down to about 12F, but now I’ve slowed down on the miles. I’ve had three accidents, all in rush hour traffic caused by others, but didn’t stop riding. I have a lovely titanium rod the length of my lower left leg as a souvenir of the worst.
@@flhtcui1995 I'm glad you are still able and willing to ride. I've had a few dumps but only the one real accident which totalled the bike but left me with only a scratch. I was lucky. Keep on riding!

The first time I camped at Iron Horse it was 15 degrees Fahrenheit froze my nads off next time i got a cabin
There are times when a cabin is a good idea. I'm glad I can carry an electric heater and they had sites with electricity available. If I travelled with a group to split costs, I would probably go for cabins and motels more... no I wouldn't, I really don't travel with groups well.
Love your channel and follow it religiously. I've got a mini mate II pull with a VW bug. My only frustration is with the background music, which to my ear sounds like elevator music. It gets rather tedious.
lol, I tend to agree with you on the music. I try, I honestly try to match something up to my mood or the pace of the video. Not always easy. Since I usually produce 20 min and over videos, I do loop some pieces maybe a little bit too long. I'm a small channel, making pennies on it and use royalty music rather than a subscription music service. Copyright is a huge issue. As the channel grows, I will probably change my main music sources going into the new year. After the bike accident, I spent a month and a half hauling the MM with my old KIA Rondo. Still had a blast camping and those will be coming up after I get through the 106 Days on the Road. Thanks for watching even with the tedious music.
Would have been nice to see a little more of the Iron Horse facilities, and less complaining about prices. But a good video.
To be honest, I thought I had more footage from a walkabout. It was a year ago and I'm just working with what I dumped down to hard drives. I know I was getting quite concerned with Hurricane Ian which was making landfall in Florida about the time I was at Iron Horse.
Ah yes, Hurricane Ian, Good that you can at least do some planning with all the modern reports of where and when it will impact you. Can't help have a feeling of sadness knowing that your were ten days from finishing th 106 days AND knowing what lies ahead for the Red Mistress. I take such things way too seriously.
It ended up being more like 16 days... I have a little twinge as I see the Red Mistress while editing... but, we can't take things too seriously. Lots of good memories and that's all we really keep.
Watching some old fart talking with his mouth full of food is not my idea of entertainment. One more gripe, someone groaning when they get up or sit down, or do any damn thing is annoying. I'm 67 and I ache just like the rest of us older folks. But I refuse to make the sound effects to show it, so stop it! Nobody likes to hear it, so there.
Came here to see about this motorcycle campground but couldn't stomach "Pops".
Sorry this video disappointed you... just another day in the life of this Old guy.
That’s good bye then, bye bye
Is everyone in your family a grumpy old ass or just you?
