  • Welcome to Taipei's Beitou District! We're showing you 12 things to do in this Taiwanese neighborhood famous for its many hot springs, hot spring resorts, beautiful nature, and history!
We're Brandi & Alan, full-time travelers and creators since 2018. We post fun vlogs and informative guides to both document our travels and help you on your own journey.

Planning your own trip to Taipei's Beitou District? Add these to your itinerary!
    1. Check out the Xinbeitou Historic Station, which was built during the Japanese colonial period! It is also the only remaining original station on the Tamsui line!
    2. Visit the Ketagalan Culture Center to learn more about the indigenous cultures of Taiwan.
    3. Stroll through the beautiful Beitou Park
    4. Check out the Beitou Public Library! (We didn't film inside, but it is cool to see!)
    5. Head to the Beitou Hot Spring Museum to gain some insight on the region's hot spring culture and traditions.
    6. Take a dip in one of Beitou's public hot springs - be sure to come prepared with the proper attire!
    7. Or relax for a while and book a room at one of Beitou's many hot spring hotels! (If you're interested we stayed at the Royal Seasons Hotel Hot Spring Beitou - it was a bit dated but we LOVED the experience!)
    8. Grab a delicious local snack at the Beitou Market!
    9. Get some exercise on one of Beitou's many beautiful hiking trails! (We did Phoenix Mountain which had a great overlook of the city!)
    10. Visit the Puji Temple to see one of the last surviving Japanese-era buddhist temples in Taiwan.
    11. Walk to the the Thermal Valley where you can see some of Taiwan's geothermal activity! And it's just really beautiful! :)
    12. Dip you feet in the pools at Fuxing Park! It's a good way to experience the hot spings if it is hot out and it's fun, relaxing, and free for visitors! :)

You can visit the "Beitou Museum of Cultural Relics", a Japanese-style building that is more complete and beautiful than Japan. And next to the Japanese-style garden restaurant "Marshal Zen Garden".

Alan is so knowledgeable, he can tell things that even I don't know every time! I love hearing him pronounce that word ~free~!

Alan was the person who planned our Taipei videos, so he is happy to hear that you’ve been able to learn from the videos!! And he’s hilarious, he definitely loves a good deal (or even better, ~free! 😂)

Bandi looks stunning in the red Aboriginal outfit. Alan is exactly right that we don't have to hike through the trail because they did it for us, and the film clearly shows what it looks like. The slim and fit couple has nothing to worry about decluttering artillery after the rich and crispy deep-fried chicken. Again, they produced another exciting video that we can’t afford to miss, especially if you are to visit “Thermal Valley” in the Beitou area.

About 400 years ago when the Spanish first came to Northern Taiwan most of them settled down in Demsui because the Taipei basin was a lake in fact due to its heavy rainfall all year round. The Ketaglan indigenous people inhabited the brim of the lake and they used canoes to move around. during the beginning of 18th century immigrants began to channel away the water into Demsui river and reclaim the land building the irrigation system there and Taipei developed step by step into a metropolis we see today.

Back in the early 1980s, when I was a child, the Thermal Valley was like a natural hot pot! People could directly access the boiling hot spring water, which made it quite dangerous, resulting in accidents from time to time. The most popular activity at the Valley was boiling eggs. There were stalls around the area selling raw eggs, both chicken and quail eggs, to visitors. People would immerse the raw eggs into the hot spring water, rotate them using chopsticks or whatever sticks they could find nearby, and finally, peel the eggshells to enjoy the authentic hot spring eggs! However, this activity led to a messy and unpleasant park area, as many people would casually discard their eggshells and chopsticks everywhere.
Later on, the government intervened and decided to rebuild the Thermal Valley park. They prohibited access to the hot spring water, which meant no more boiling eggs. While it may have become less fun, the park now appears calm, much cleaner, and, in my opinion, much nicer.
