in WWE, who refused a storyline where he would have bodyguards who were supposed to be Yakuza members. The wrestler and two others involved refused the storyline because they didn't know how the organization would react.
From this NHK doc I read they supposedly have not been as prevalent and aren't established anymore, and the sentiment is repeated across several would be experts and the WSJ sources several different Japanese pundits. But almost EVERY time I think about what I read it always comes to mind "isn't that exactly what they would want tho" ? I mean I might be just feeding the legend but I don't see why they would be defunct all of a sudden. Especially when the conditions are almost nothing but perfect for organized criminal actions
Yakuza was big in Japan, yet their members are secretive.
Promotion ls in Japan used to have entire sections foped off for Yakuza members because they were known to attend wrestling events. Foreign wrestlers were told to stay away from those sections if they didn't want to start trouble.
@@sagebiddiI think the idea of any crime organization is the same: legitimize everything, take legal control, make the opposition the only criminals. It's like alcohol and weed, turn it legal so there's no crime and paperwork is legit. Have your high status members be in high status corporate and governmental positions, and have all muscle work as actual security and insurance. Anyone trying to enter the market is automatically taken down both legally in court and by institutions and a crap ton of confusing regulations and paperwork you made.

Usually when I hear the word mafia I think of casino heists, hitmen, trench coats, fedoras, concrete shoes, the prohibition era, ect.
Pretty much all of that comes from Al Capone. He's the whole foundation of the archetypal American gangster, right down to his manner of speaking (there are old recordings of him on UA-cam).

One day, many years ago, my mother's aunt (an 80 something year old lady) once stared down & denied entry to her home to members of the Hell's Angels who were chasing down a guy marked for death who ran into her house for sanctuary.
Did she survive and be okay?

I had two aunts who ran around with the Hell's Angels for many years. My one aunt (who died from colon cancer three years ago) almost married the one Hell's Angel she was dating. My second aunt (who is battling emphysema) got pregnant with the Hell's Angel she was dating. Unfortunately, she miscarried. But, the stories they would tell me about the Hell's Angels was definitely something to behold. They were good to you unless you betrayed them. That's when they'd go after you and your family.

They forgot to mention that the Sicilian Mafia has been so violent and bloodthirsty that they manage to murder many policeman, judges, priest and ordinary people that were trying to take a stand in the 80s and 90s, embarking in a conflict with the Italian government that they almost won.
They were subject of of the greatest and biggest trial in the history of crime in Palermo.
Plus through that trial was crucial for the understanding of how a crime organisation worked.
Since before that, the general feeling was that the Mafia was simply a group of few people.
If we're being honest with ourselves, crime rules the world. Non-criminals live at the mercy of so much evil. Tragic.

I think they refer to current drug cartels. The Medellín Cartel proper disappeared in the 90s (Escobar died in 1993).
