Just listening to your comments about the Leylands and the comments written by others, the point that has to be borne in mind is that all railway rolling stock is necessarily long lived, and you can't just replace it because there are better units now available. The best argument for dumping the 14Xs was the safety one - bus bodies don't stand up to collisions as well as heavy rail does (as witnessed by the instance when one body of a 14X was knocked off its chassis by a heavy unit, fortunately an ECS for the 14X). Given that even such an extreme event didn't lead to withdrawal on safety grounds (even though this was at the time that the HSE was demanding withdrawal of Mk 1 stock for precisely that reason) then we end up stuck with 14Xs until they become genuinely life-expired simply because that's where the bucks are.
Well your anger about the Pacer's must of been listened to as it state's within the bidding documents for the next Northern Franchise that they have to go by 2020. Completely agree with you-I can't wait til their history!
Regarding to your question about 91116 doing a loop. If I'm correct that set went to Heaton to sit at Heaton then come back. Northern Rail do it every so often up there.
I would have to believe you on that one. The way I see it they use the loop to have the train sat there which allows extra space in the station to be made available
This station is quite nice architecture wonderful it has very frequent services calling there and the high speed trains are quality if the 142s get scrapped asap then it would be 1000000 times as good
The station is very welcoming but because it's so open it also means that it gets very cold very quickly. Especially when you've been on a nice warm train for about 4 hours from Peterborough. The 142's will be removed from service by 2020 because of the new units currently under order from Northern
The Great Eastern Trainspotter the 390's are staying on the WCML. The new Hitachi units are going to be replacing all of the HST sets and all but 5 of the 91's. The rest are going to be shipped elsewhere either on the MML or the GEML
Virgin Trains won the bid to run services on the East Coast Mainline, taking over from East Coast back in march. They trailed a class 390 but won't be bringing them to the ECML. The new IEP trains will be taking over all of the HST's and all but a handful of the 225 sets
+Tornado922 Especially ironic since the HST was built more than 10 years before the first Pacer ever bumped over some points. I've read that they plan on replacing the Pacers with units built by Swiss manufacturer Stadler.
+Chris Holloway It'll be nice to see the new rolling stock that is going to be introduced, and it will also be interesting to see the livery they decide to apply to their new trains
+Chris Holloway from what I understand all of the 185 units are being kept. Arriva are buying new trains to run alongside them. Apparently the 185 DMU'S will be working mostly on the South Transpennine network
HST sneaking up on me, where did you miss the sound of it lol and the busss again and yeah it is ugly like some trams in amsterdam lol always a party here when you uploaded your video(don't come here your are done in one day with our trains, not much types)
Im to understand that 5 of the 91's are gojng to be staying with VTEC and the HST sets are mostly going to be used up in Scotland so they aren't going to be scrapped. The other 91's are hopefully being sent to either the MML or the GEML. I'll need to see the 800's on test before really saying anything about them
GA170208 I think the 91 sets are being split between the MML and the GEML but I'm not 100% sure. I'm to believe the HST sets are moving into Scotland from all of the stories I've seen. I think it's either 5 or 6 of the 91's will be staying on the ECML to work along side the 800's
GA170208 Yeah I can certainly film there. I've been meaning to for a while now. After I've done a few different stations once I've finished on the ECML I'll go there
I have to say that every time i see a "BUS"at first it did not appeal to me but it is starting to grow on me. I would not mind going on one just to experiance it. D.
The new Virgin Trains East Coasts should definitely have been the old virgin colours not the new colours, especially on those new 43s... the new colours sort of work in the new colours, but not the 43s, am I the only one that feels that way?
o iiRyuto Also, anyone know why on earth First are loosing all their trains and buses? no first buses operate in london anymore and FCC went to Thameslink, ScotRail is Abellio, I really like the First colours.... Maybe NR should get some 175/177s instead of the pacers... they're good trains for companies like them

Fantastic video. Well done.

Nice video as always!
Thanks very much
That 91 that did a loop's coaches looks good in that livery... dunno why, just does :P
Great video
Regarding to your question about 91116 doing a loop. If I'm correct that set went to Heaton to sit at Heaton then come back. Northern Rail do it every so often up there.
William Saynor Ah right ok. Thanks for clarifying that for me
***** anytime
Would love to see a 185 in northern rail livery
I imagen that would look rather good
Another great video,I hope that you will revisit it at some point.
D
The point of the loop is to make it look like a different set working the train back to London I believe
I would have to believe you on that one. The way I see it they use the loop to have the train sat there which allows extra space in the station to be made available
@@Tornado922 it still does it to this day one train sometimes goes round via Sunderland and Darlington god knows why
I like the pacers because they give you a feel that your in a city or on a older line if you know what I mean mate
Yeah i know what you mean but i just feel like their time is up
This station is quite nice architecture wonderful it has very frequent services calling there and the high speed trains are quality if the 142s get scrapped asap then it would be 1000000 times as good

Yes, the "Buses" are horrid, they're incredibly slow, and the breaks make the worst sound
@Brysen Kalel isn't that a bit of an infringement of privacy
Nice vid! Are you going to be doing Chester-le-Street?
I might be
@@Tornado922 hello
They might not be but they might be adding Virgin Trains West Coast 390's onto the ECML as well as the Class 800's and 801's
The Great Eastern Trainspotter I can't see that happening in all honesty.
***** The Enthusiastic Trainspotter said that they might be adding the Virgin 390's as it's now Virgin Trains East Coast
The Great Eastern Trainspotter the 390's are staying on the WCML. The new Hitachi units are going to be replacing all of the HST sets and all but 5 of the 91's. The rest are going to be shipped elsewhere either on the MML or the GEML
***** If they don't have the 390's then will the 390's still be on WCML?
The Great Eastern Trainspotter yes the 390's are going to be staying on the WCML
I think the issue with NR pacers is that NR can't afford a brand new fleet to replace both 142 and 144 fleets when a refurb is a much cheaper option?
Redfern Model Railway A refurb is probably the cheaper option but there must be something they can do
NR just brought 316s and apparently there's no more stock to lease it would be good if they had turbostars
Northern should keep the pacers i love them i grew up riding them 🚅 🚎
My idea is that the NR buses should be replaced by class 180s or hsts cuz there be more room and less standing for people and of course less bounding
At the time, no one knew about the 195. But now we do. I suppose that IS you're point of view of replacing pacers???......?
Have Vergin bought east coast trains and will they bring class 390 onto the ecml
Virgin Trains won the bid to run services on the East Coast Mainline, taking over from East Coast back in march. They trailed a class 390 but won't be bringing them to the ECML. The new IEP trains will be taking over all of the HST's and all but a handful of the 225 sets
What are IEP trains are they the new class 800
Ben Wilson yes
I think that NORTHERN RAIL should get rid of 142 and have 170
Its not cheap its alot of money and northern don't want to do that. But will they get the money back from buying the 170s
the pacer looks old fashioned
Especially when you put it next to a HST or Class 91
+Tornado922 Especially ironic since the HST was built more than 10 years before the first Pacer ever bumped over some points. I've read that they plan on replacing the Pacers with units built by Swiss manufacturer Stadler.
+danl33ds you'd go on a rattly old Pacer over a fast, modern and comfy class 91? (You're entitled to your opinion)
+Tornado922 The pacers were not meant for speed like the hst is so dont expect them to be good now when they are 30 ish years old
Northern rail have been bought by Arriva now. By 2017, all the pacers should be phased out. Thank God.
+Chris Holloway It'll be nice to see the new rolling stock that is going to be introduced, and it will also be interesting to see the livery they decide to apply to their new trains
+Tornado922 Arriva are buying transpennine too so hopefully some 185's will replace the pacers
+Chris Holloway from what I understand all of the 185 units are being kept. Arriva are buying new trains to run alongside them. Apparently the 185 DMU'S will be working mostly on the South Transpennine network
+Tornado922 The pacers are ok trains. They are trains that you love which Tornado922 likes or you hate
No bordam yet
Old underground stock is replacing the pacer.
Yeah I've seen that, hopefully they will be better
That scheme has been scrapped. Northern are getting brand new units in 2018.
HST sneaking up on me, where did you miss the sound of it lol and the busss again and yeah it is ugly like some trams in amsterdam lol always a party here when you uploaded your video(don't come here your are done in one day with our trains, not much types)
Debski Huis I had such a fun time in Newcastle :D I'm glad you and other are enjoying it :)
what are yoir Ideas about the class 800 and how they are gonna replace 91s and hsts, it will the worst day of my railway life :/
Im to understand that 5 of the 91's are gojng to be staying with VTEC and the HST sets are mostly going to be used up in Scotland so they aren't going to be scrapped. The other 91's are hopefully being sent to either the MML or the GEML. I'll need to see the 800's on test before really saying anything about them
All I know is its not long until 91 or a ec hst are gone
GA170208 I think the 91 sets are being split between the MML and the GEML but I'm not 100% sure. I'm to believe the HST sets are moving into Scotland from all of the stories I've seen. I think it's either 5 or 6 of the 91's will be staying on the ECML to work along side the 800's

+Tornado922 hi my name is Louis can you go up to. Darlington again and could you try get to go in some of the cabs
Ok, BTW, What's happened to ScotRail?
The Great Eastern Trainspotter Abbelio run it now, but they're keeping the same livery
Redfern Model Railway Then why is there an Abellio Greater Anglia?
The Great Eastern Trainspotter Abellio won the bid for the Scotrail franchise. Just like Virgin trains took the ECML.
Companies can run loads of franchises, just think about First!
***** If ScotRail have been franchised then whats happened to Greater Anglia If they've won the Abellio franchise?
91114 has its pantograph the wrong way round! What on earth...
they should get rid of the buses because they look old and not surpised one hasnt just blew up
Well they have gone way past their time now
THEY SHOULD GET RIDE OF THE BUSE TRAINS[pacers] THERE USLESS EXEPT THE SPRINTERS there fine right???????
I have to say that every time i see a "BUS"at first it did not appeal to me but it is starting to grow on me.
I would not mind going on one just to experiance it.
D.
No you wouldn't they're horrible!
The new Virgin Trains East Coasts should definitely have been the old virgin colours not the new colours, especially on those new 43s... the new colours sort of work in the new colours, but not the 43s, am I the only one that feels that way?

o iiRyuto Anything to replace the pacers in all honesty. Even if you were to give them a refurb they can't be improved
o iiRyuto I really am hoping the 43's get the old virgin colours
ITS A BUS
build new DMUs to replace the pacers and call them 152s
well the pacers are getting scraped at the end of 2017 now
The new Northern trains will be Class 195.
Was tumnated sivce
I think Northern Rail should completely refurbish pacers to make them more comfortable and less noisy. But not get rid of them.
Or replace them all with 319s.
Northern trains look so dated. Looks like a slug on the railway and goes the same speed.
I may not be a train fanatic but even i agree the pacer must go, its ugly and has nothing good about it
I enjoy your videos very much but I wish you'd stop saying "she" all the time. "It" is fine but please not "She".
I will continue to refer to them as 'she'. There is nothing wrong in doing so. It's just down to personal preference
