- This was filmed at the Haunted Mansion Holiday event October 2nd, 2001, the day before it opened to the public. We were part of the small (200) upper level of the event that got dinner and a show in the Blue Bayou, and private ride time WITH OUR NAMES hanging on the lists in the attic. I have a picture clearly showing Jason B and Dawn B on the list. Fantastic!!!!
You can hear our reactions to the ride. Remember, no one had seen ANYTHING from this overlay yet, we had no idea the magnitude of it. Obviously, it blew us away. And, as the icing on the cake, we were greated by none other than Maynard's Evil Twin!!!

Oh man, this is so cool! I remember how blown away I was the first time I got to ride this (nowhere near the opening of the ride, but better late than never!). This was a really fun video to watch, and to hear your reactions as the very first people to go into it 100% blind. Thanks for sharing it!

Jaaahhh I love the giant Jack skull on the ceiling, and hated that they changed it to just a screen effect. I love it if things are really there and not just a screen. Can imagen the first time seeing this version might have scared a few kids, or even adults for that matter :)

I loved the old soundtrack, especially the seance circle and the foyer music. Wish they’d bring it back.
I really love the music track used from the beginning to the ballroom scene. I think it was changed in 2003 to the current, more NBC track. Carol of the Bells in Madame Leota's room is just so beautiful!
It was changed in 2002, but I agree with you wholeheartedly. I think the original soundtrack is far superior on the whole.

You just had to know the tickets were going on sale. The set of 200 sold in about 5 minutes, I luckily made it through. Burton and Elfman were originally advertised as going to be there, but they bailed. Still WELL worth it.

Me too. The newer soundtrack isn't as exciting or varied as this version. I also like this original ending better, but I doubt that they will ever bring it back.
Oooooh there used to be a giant Jack skull on the ceiling of the stretch room??? Why on EARTH did they remove that and replaced it with a cheap screen of Jack??? This is MUCH more impactfull and epic!!!! Because you know....it's really up there and not just a screen.
I experienced the giant Jack head that used to be there.. I wish it was still there instead of the screen.
I got to see the giant Jack head and... it was okay. I don't really know really what they could reveal that would have been more fitting.

This is really cool! Didn't realize the music was different it's first few years of running too. In some parts of the ride I actually like this version of the soundtrack better.
It was actually only used like this in its first year. After that they changed it for the 2002 season, and most of that soundtrack is what they continue to use today.
I like this soundtrack better too.

I hate how they changed it. When I first experienced this version, that Jack in the elevator scene scared the hell out of me.

This is the first year the Merry Scary Christmas card came later on.
Pretty sure they're referring to the one in the video with just Jack and the Mayor.
-And I'm assuming some millionaire bought it in an auction by now.
I can’t speak for the Mayor or Lock, Shock and Barrel but the top half of the giant Jack Skellington is currently located in the work/break area for Cast Members where they clock in and out for Mansion shifts. The area is just after the unload belt. This is where I had seen it last in 2013 so I can’t say if it’s still there or not.
@@JH-xt8we Interesting! I always wondered what had happened to these older props from the first year or two of the mansion; glad to hear most of them aren’t trashed or anything along the lines of that. At least as far as I’m aware, they aren’t.
@@pandaparkconstructions2975 Right. I was referring to the giant facade of Jack Skellington, the Mayor, Lock, Shock, and Barrel in the loading area. The following year was changed to reveal a new character every Friday, which is still there to this day.
