- Took a trip down to the Belgian Cemetary I like to do this every now and then. It was great to see it is still been looked after. I remember a few years ago when I went to take a look it was overgrown and there was a lot of the graves covered so it was good to see everything yesterday. I think a lot of Birtley Folk dont know about this place. Its worth a visit if you are in the area.
Great video Colin. Informative to. Keep up the good work. I’d love to see what the crem is like now.
I will do a one of the Crem Astro I just got photos of the Crem yesterday for my Birtley History Group
Another cracking video Colin. Apparently it was only a few years ago when the Brexit was getting started , laws were changed in Brussels to bring the Belgian graveyards in the UK under the classification of war graves . This was done because of what they did to help Britain during the Great War . I personally think it was a good idea as the graves were neglected on a national level and nobody seemed interested in doing anything in the UK until the law was changed and regular money is sent to the UK via a an independent organisation to manage and maintain the graveyards. Great idea from Europe for once . Bye for now Colin.
Hi Colin I was born and bred in Birtley . I now live just outside Morpeth Northumberland and feel ashamed to say this is the first time I have seen this cemetery close up. I do enjoy seeing your posts and bring back happy memories.
Thank you Liz memories are golden. Thanks for your comment much appreciated take care
When I was about 6 I was going to Ravensworth Castle for a picnic with my sister Christine and her best friend Stephanie Carr from west street, Birtley and my mate Paul Chrichton and the aluminum fence was a stone wall and some kids were knocking down headstones, we
stood up, and it didn't kick off.....my brother married a Belgium lady, Debra Quick, and they lived 50 yards away from my aunt Sybil, who had a shop
Another great video hubby. So nice to see it well kept yesterday.xxx
Thank you Again Wifey
Another great video Colin,nice
To see how well it,s looked after
As it was in a poor state I remember
The original Belgian war graves now
Looks like they've been replaced
With new headstones.
Great to see it like that Steve I remember it been in an awful state a few years ago
