Small Broadsword Group Lesson, Avoid the Blade

We had the majority of a class out sick this week so it was a good opportunity to show case how we run small group lessons (3 or less students per coach) by cycling mini lessons and doing weighted learning bouting at the end. Both students have new intermediate ranks. I am teaching them to disengage or avoid the blade first on my cue with blade pressure, then visually as I search for the blade, then on the students initiative following a feint. Where they struggled was with the sequence of placing the cut or thrust and a slight arm extension prior to the commitment of the foot. We are just recently back from summer holidays so time to.k ock the rust. To teach the correct sequence it's best to integrate single, double and triple disengages, that way they need to become patient with the feet to succeed.
