Today we continue the Piatti Project with Caprice No. 7. On the surface this is a typical italian music piece: light-hearted, quick, and inoffensive. From a technical standpoint however I must say this particular caprice is much harder than it seems and has way too many notes to play. Not easy to make it sound nice.

Swiss Cellist Sebastian Diezig is a sought-after soloist and chamber musician. He studied with Pierre-Bernard Sudan, Marc Jaermann and finally completed his studies with Thomas Demenga with a brilliant soloist diploma in 2008. Diezig is price winner at numerous competitions, most notably the International Cello Competition Lugano (3rd price) and the International Cello Competition Zagreb (special price for the best interpretation of the compulsory piece, both in 2008). Since 2010 he is co-principal cellist with the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra with which he performs in the famed KKL, the Lucerne Theatre and frequently in major music capitals of Europe, Asia and South America. As a soloist he has appeared with orchestras such as the Basel Symphony, the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, the Fribourg Chamber Orchestra, the Prague Symphonic Ensemble and many others and at renowned festivals such as the Lucerne Festival, the Young Artists in Concert Davos, the Sine Nomine Festival Lausanne and others in Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Belgium and Luxembourg. Sebastian Diezig also composes. Among his works are the virtuoso solo pieces „Top Gun Variations“ (2012) and „Blues“ (2007) which can be heard on his UA-cam Channel. One of his current projects is the video recording of all the Piatti Caprices (also available on his UA-cam Channel).

This is by far my favorite recording of this piece. Most cellists just go overboard and extreme with the tempo but this one is more calm and feels very musical and for me enjoyable.

I always find myself revisiting this. Confident in saying it’s one of my favorite pieces of music ever written for our instrument even though it’s just an étude. Such a lovely recording

Hey, I'm starting to learn the caprices and just wanted to ask if you could send me fingerings for the first caprice, my private teacher isn't exactly sure when to shift

+Jebdon Hi, I use the sheet music issued by International Music Company in New York under the title of "Piatti: 12 Caprices" (edited by Pierre Fournier, No. 2559). The fingerings in there are really good and I use almost all of them.

Eine sehr gut gespielte Version, sie wird jetzt mein neuer Ohrwurm.
Aber bei 1:25 tut sie noch recht cool, sie will dann bei 3:22 aber doch noch mitmachen.
    Typisch Katze !
