Wolf Link's Shackle is on his arm, where it belongs. It's on his foreleg in TP, so as a villager that would be his left arm, which looking there, he does have the Shackle.

Adding a few polygons, smothing out rough edges, & a change of wardrobe does not really qualify as a redesign in my book. A redesign would be something more drastic like changing Ibex horns into Markhor horns, changing brown fur into pink, changing a rounded water-feeding beak into a pointy songbird beak, replacing stripes with spots, drastically changing the shape & size of eyes, adding orvremoving things like tusks, replacing a long tail with a bobbed one...
Exactly, the thumbnail confused me cause it's not redesigned at all basically none of these are redesigns except some having slight differences in colour and proportions
Definitely disagree for this franchise specifically, because changing a character's clothes means changing them as a whole. For example, Rodeo's shirt changing from an edgy neon pink and black striped shirt giving him a punk/emo look... to a harry potter outfit making him look like a wizard... that's a complete redesign with just a shirt. Same with Lucky, Punchy, Pashmina, their entire character personality was changed with just a shirt change. As we don't see the characters naked, obviously a shirt would be considered a redesign, given that they have a outfit that they basically always wear like a cartoon character. If changing spider-man's suit is a redesign, changing a villager's clothes is definitely also a redesign.
tbf, he also said he was gonna talk about oddities and stuff too, not JUST redesigns. Though I do agree, I wouldn't really consider upping the character's model and detail quality, and fixing some things that can be fixed now that new things exist, as a "redesign". Especially not just a clothing change, seeing as clothing changes are just a thing. I also wouldn't consider the height and mild shape change to be a character redesign. It was more of a slight style modification to better suit the clothing and stuff. Regardless though, I enjoy stuff like this. Seeing the evolution of the actual design and going into the details of what actually changed and speculating why.
You mention that Bella’s nose used to look like a diamond shape but I think something that should be mentioned is that some changes are because of the newer models having more polygons. The old models are low poly which can mean the details look angular sometimes
Kid Cat also had a redesign! He had white and black stripes on his legs and arms, but now he has white paws that looks like gloves and boots. I think it's to fit better his "hero suit", and it does looks better, but still it's really curious because he had black and white stripes since since the start, but they changed it just now!
There's something oddly charming about Ankha changing her outfit in every game she turns up in. Rip Sheep scarves, they're now less nude but less fashionable too.
in a video talking about "re-designs" he didn't mention the one ACTUAL redesign that happened during the history of the franchise, and that is to the gorilla Jane, changing appearance COMPLETELY (yes it was because of localization, but it is still a heavy redesign)
Wait have people had issues with Vesta? I've legit never heard anyone claim she could be offensive outside of this video.. there are real life sheep breeds that have faces with black fur and Im pretty sure that's what was being aimed for with the off-black purple color..
@@missdarling7806 Like I'm assuming he was implying racial issues but like... no....? This is probably the weirdest commentary I've heard him say in any of his videos
Poor Ed never gets any attention. He’s my favorite villager ever and he actually grew an eye in New Horizons 😂 He has a strand of hair over his right eye and in previous games they simply didn’t bother to put an eye on the texture but in New Horizons it’s now partly visible. 😄
He also had a personality change. He used to be a jock but was changed to be smug in New Leaf. His favorite saying changed too, it went from "Beauty is pain" to "Beauty is pretty" in New Horizons.
I'm shocked you didn't talk about Stella's absolute redesign overhaul. She looked like a completely different sheep villager in the original Animal Forest game
I've heard parts of the fandom insist that Gulliver and Gullivarrr are two different characters, "just like Tortimer and Cornimer"... but considering Gullivarrr's visits count towards the Gulliver's Travails achievement or whatever you want to call it, that tells me they're the same character.
the sally/cally/hazel thing is always so interesting to me. i only really got into the mainline games back in 2019, and sally (the current sally lol) was on my very first wild world town! so it was one of the facts i learned about the series very quickly. great video as usual! i love to hear about the gamecube series in general because of how different it was for its time, so thanks for including those villagers too!
I didn't understand pointing out most of the things you pointed out. Like most of the changes were just due to hardware evolution and consoles capable of better handling more and more polygons and texture improvements. I don't see how is this any "change" to the characters. Like, Vivian's fur color was changed for something lighter, no doubt about it and it's noteworthy, but Bella's nose? You point out Bella's nose form "change" from a diamond-shaped nose to a round one like it was something special or unique to this villager, but not. Every mouse used to have a square nose because of hardware limitations. It's no change, it's just improvements to get as close to their supposed original design as possible now that consoles are more powerful and can handle incredible amounts of polygons, thus more realistic graphics with ease. Every mouse used to have a square nose up to the DS, then hexagon-shaped on Wii and 3DS, then round-shaped. You can point out that most things were slightly reshaped and rounded in the latest AC games compared to back in the days, but that's absolutely not what you say. You seem to believe a character's feature was rounded up on purpose as a redesign rather than just better matching how it was supposed to look in the first place. Things weren't "reformed," just "refined." Some characters were redesigned, like Valise (whose fur's become lighter than in her first appearance) or Vivian (whose fur color was changed over the years) but how's Cube chin coloration been different? I see really no difference. And Daisy's always had this gradient, smooth color transition on her ears. Once again, just that let less detail appear, but it's suggested. I've even found a top-view screenshot on her Fandom's gallery where you can clearly see the "gradient" (we're on N64). C'mon, what's your source, bro? For Derwin, same thing. Even Velma's glasses were divorced from her eyes. It's not character specific (as you hint it), glasses used to be sprites just stamped onto the characters' faces but were then separated to allow them to be clearly removable accessories. Probably console limitations as well. Vic wasn't redesigned. Bulls (as a species) were. Once again, most likely due to hardware limitations, they had to rely more on sprites than on 3D models. Walt. Wasn't redesigned either. Kangaroos were, instead. They all had that white spot on the nose that was removed (Also most likely due to hardware improvement. They just don't have to "mimic" light reflection through textures anymore). Wart Jr.'s warts were also made more "blended" or "invisible" on his face due to technological improvement. They probably were different color to mimic light reflection and shading, making them easily noticeable, but now they can be the same color as his skin since hardware and 3D models can handle complex half-sphere shapes and lighting. Other notable real design changes include the spots on Tangy's face, which have been greatly reduced in number in her latest appearances (And it's probably not entirely due to hardware limitations in my opinion since it's only in the VERY last game it was reduced, I'd consider it a change in her design). Vivian's fur was definitely changed for something lighter intentionally. Ursala's big smile was removed entirely, but she's not the only one. N64 models used to have bigger mouths than now. Some characters, like Samson, have kept this feature while most others (Ursala, Kody, Nibbles, for e.g.) have had their mouths made smaller. There's a huge difference between ONE character being redesigned, and the whole game being graphically enhanced or a set of features or a species being redesigned. If so, say that the whole species was redesigned (bulls' ears and kangaroos' noses, for e.g.) and don't make it sound like it was character specific. It's misleading. By the way, Wolf Link's Animal Crossing counterpart does have a shackle.....on his left arm.....because it's his foreleg..... And Weber still has two chunks of hair missing on the back of his head.....just like the ones on the front.....it's just not visible on FRONT artworks.....like what you've been working on your entire video.....He didn't grew back his hair. at all. Have you even double-checked anything? This video looks researched but it's just "reaction to AC artworks" and no reverification...

technically carmen should count as a redesigned villager. originally, she was a snooty mouse with the catchphrase "bumpkin", but from city folk onward, she's a peppy rabbit with the catchphrase "nougat"
You mean "they updated the graphics?" And I don't think the video game characters were "forced" to do anything, considering they're video game models. I'm imaginging a dog open in Maya with text popping up saying "no! Please! No more polygons, creator! Anything but smoothing me out and updating my textures!" Sure it can suck when the default outfit changes, but the old ones didn't really have much detail or very interesting designs.
7:48 - a front leg on a quadruped would translate into an arm when anthropomorphized, and given how Wolf Link (Villager) has something that looks like a shackle on his left ARM, it means that the shackle _is_ placed correctly. Say, what if you made a video about mistakes you've made in your videos?
I just wanted to comment here, and say "thank you" for your huge dedication on your videos, and, please, just never stop posting videos! I really love your channel and I'm very happy when I see a new video from one of my favorite UA-camrs.
When I think about character changes, I think about Maple's redesign from Animal Forest to the GameCube and also how Jane the gorilla's design was heavily altered/censored when NoA was making the worldwide Animal Crossing port.
this is a little unrelated but its so refreshing to watch an ac youtuber who has actually unique and interesting video ideas i enjoy your videos a lot :) !
So Caroline was in the OG, but named Bliss. I was wondering about that. She’s one of my longer lasting villagers. After the OG villagers, Carline moved in along with Nibbles and Bob.
Tangy and Wart may have been changed due to folks with Trypophobia. Neither were bad enough to squick me out personally, but I could see how it could cause a reaction.
You can tell that this channel doesn't do their research when they complain about wolf link not having a shackle while showing a pic with the model having a shackle
Vesta's card face isn't black. It's deep purple. Dark purple is a good substitute for black which is why she was purple in the first place, her printed art is just less saturated.
There were gender changes between regions and a color change. Gracie, Blanca and Saharah are actually male in Japan. And Jane the gorilla was white in Japan but they made her purple or pink for the worldwide version, maybe to avoid another potential Jynx controversy (from Pokemon). Also Chip got his eyes changed. They were slanted originally. You should do a video on the localization changes cause there’s a lot
Wolf link does. Have a shackle cause if he stood up then that leg with the shackle would be his left arm and he has a similarly looking bracelet on his left arm
Jeramiah the frogs change always makes me so sad. He went from a very obvious tie ins to a southern frog and in new horizons they made him have the kindergarten room house :/
I hate Jitters so much, not only because he looks like he snorts the snow from Mariah Carey's music video, but the first time I met him in wild world, he said something along the lines of "Aw, crud, I lost my jockstrap again" EXCUSE ME!!?? The animals don't even wear pants or shoes, why does he have underwear????????
Oh, in Cube's redesign, hes wearing a Big dot shirt! That shirt's pattern is the background for the game's pause/pockets menu. In wild world you could actually swap a shirt or pattern to the background and keep the big dot shirt, but i dont know if it was possible on gamecube. Id love to have that game cube shirt in new horizons, though
Gracie is a slow fashion icon. In a world of fast fashion, they are sustainably refusing to change their outfit while still being a top designer. We should all strive to be so sustainable
These videos are great but that stupid part of the background music where its just a few random notes every once in a while drives me absolutely insane.
Jitters!! I’m so happy to see him mentioned in a video, He’s my favorite villager!!!💚 i never thought anything about his eyes until I decided to look at “least popular villagers” lists when when new horizons released and he was on all of them for that reason😭😂
It’s crazy how some villagers were way cuter in the low poly style of the older games than with the newer graphics!! Some absolutely needed the update though and look so much better in the new style 😬
I remember having bliss as our town's island villager and we later got her again in city folk and my sibling and I were scratching our heads at the name change.
I like to think that Lyle’s change of career and ultimately his outlook might have had to do with his niece Lottie. When she was old enough to get a job, he probably changed careers to keep an eye on her and wound up actually liking his new job and getting a new lease on life.
Cube's shirt change is kind of a cool one. I don't know about city folk, but at least in the first two games you could change your menu pattern by putting a shirt in a hidden inventory slot. You'd swap it out with whatever was there currently, and the default is what cube now wears
Hey Lyle wasn't scamming. He was selling insurance. I'm pretty sure I bought insurance from him once and I happened to get attacked by bees later on, and I actually did get something in the mail as my payout. Dude was legit lmao
I am usually calm wen it comes to misinformation, but this made me livid. HE DOSE HAVE A SHAKLE ON HIS LEG, AND ITS IN THE CORRECT SPOT! sure, it dosnt have a chain, but its still there 7:48
I’m amazed you didn’t touch upon Gracie’s gender swap and gay censorship! Back in older games; Gracie had a blue name box- associated with male villagers, but had a female voice. It was nice for animal crossing to explore a character in that way. But come to new leaf, they completely changed Gracie, from being a flamboyant, fashion forward male giraffe, to a female. I found it interesting that a later game would change a character like that.
I'm glad Dobie was changed from Lazy to Cranky. Lazy would have made ZERO sense for him and Cranky is actually perfect. Imo Billy should be cranky too rather than Jock, and I really wish Shino was Sisterly or even Snooty. Peppy doesn't suit her at all.
the sheep villagers looked so much better when they just had a scarf and not the whole shirt, they just look so much more deflated and worse in new horizon
6:34 it is still just a very dark blue you can see the outline of her mouth and eyes is purpley-blueish in the amiibo print. It is definitely darker but with the context of the outline it is still purple
Another name change is the rhino Azalea, who was one of the old villagers brought back in the NH 2.0 update. I think she was originally named Petunia, which also happens to be the name of a purple cow villager who hasn't been in the games for a while. So the confusion isn't exclusive to squirrels. :'D
i wouldve liked to see some differences in villager houses across games too. one of my favorite villagers kidd has a wildly different design in his new horizons house than it had in new leaf. made me kinda sad as the homely feel of his new leaf house was partly why he was my favorite
I honestly miss the sheep villagers wearing scarves :( they all looked so cute!
It definitely made them more distinct from the other villagers, imagine if you could customise their scarves 😭
@@Jme_hdethe scarves were just the shirt they were wearing though? Like Wendy. She went from watermelon shirt, worn as a scarf, to watermelon shirt
I don't know what you would call it but it still bugs me. pashmina the goat changed aesthetics from fancy in new leaf, to 50s diner in New horizons.

Cube's shirt is still a reference since it's the background to the pause menu of AC1 that you can get if you drag a shirt to replace the background.
Dragging a new design into that corner was so cool

Wolf link does. Have a shackle cause if he stood up then that leg with the shackle would be his left arm and he has a similarly looking bracelet on his left arm
Jeramiah the frogs change always makes me so sad. He went from a very obvious tie ins to a southern frog and in new horizons they made him have the kindergarten room house :/
I'd be cranky if I didn't get to wear my cool island shirt to the new game too.
I don't know why, but the chart you made for the "squirrel confusion" actually made me laugh out loud
I hate Jitters so much, not only because he looks like he snorts the snow from Mariah Carey's music video, but the first time I met him in wild world, he said something along the lines of "Aw, crud, I lost my jockstrap again"
EXCUSE ME!!??
The animals don't even wear pants or shoes, why does he have underwear????????
Oh, in Cube's redesign, hes wearing a Big dot shirt! That shirt's pattern is the background for the game's pause/pockets menu. In wild world you could actually swap a shirt or pattern to the background and keep the big dot shirt, but i dont know if it was possible on gamecube.
Id love to have that game cube shirt in new horizons, though
Do you... Do you know what "redesign" means?
Stop trying to be a smartass, some of these CAN be counted as redesigns
Cornimer makes me feel like I'm going to be sacrificed in the middle of town to appease the gods.
Gracie is a slow fashion icon. In a world of fast fashion, they are sustainably refusing to change their outfit while still being a top designer. We should all strive to be so sustainable

I can’t 😂
you are my favorite animal crossing creator!! can’t wait for 100 days in new leaf video to come out!!!
These videos are great but that stupid part of the background music where its just a few random notes every once in a while drives me absolutely insane.
I still can't decide if Wart Jr is the most smug looking villager, or the sleepiest looking.
Jitters!! I’m so happy to see him mentioned in a video, He’s my favorite villager!!!💚 i never thought anything about his eyes until I decided to look at “least popular villagers” lists when when new horizons released and he was on all of them for that reason😭😂
Im confused. The characters still look the same. Changing of wardrobe isn’t a redesign
It’s crazy how some villagers were way cuter in the low poly style of the older games than with the newer graphics!! Some absolutely needed the update though and look so much better in the new style 😬
with wolf link, the villager does actually have a shackle, but its on his arm instead of his leg
I remember having bliss as our town's island villager and we later got her again in city folk and my sibling and I were scratching our heads at the name change.
Nintendo bring back the sheep scarves!!!
Yo justice for Jitters... Nintendo is so loaded they could have at LEAST paid for his rehab. Shame on them....
Wow, this video is amazing! I've never seen such fantastic content before. Keep up the great work!
7:50 ding dong wrong. he does have a shackle but it's on his arm where it should be, not his hind leg.
With that sheep there definitely wasn't ill intent, some sheep look like that IRL.
"forced to change" like these characters... Have free will or a conscious or something....😭
HE DOSE HAVE A SHAKLE ON HIS LEG, AND ITS IN THE CORRECT SPOT! sure, it dosnt have a chain, but its still there 7:48
Majority of these aren't redesigns
Jitters looks like the big bird in the Adventure Time food chain episode, with the crazed, hollow eyes...
I wear that sweater in animal crossing and ITS A HOODIE 1:37
Walt’s nose dot is an highlight
Jitters is one of my starting villagers right now. Now I'm not going to be able to see him as not being on drugs.
Changing the clothes a character wears does not constitute a redesign...
if it does, then does that mean im redesigning a character every time i give them a an accessory
But then how else are you gonna describe the change? It is a change in the character’s appearance.
I think it’s kinda funny that Cube has a shirt with circles on it
I'm glad Dobie was changed from Lazy to Cranky.
Lazy would have made ZERO sense for him and Cranky is actually perfect.
Imo Billy should be cranky too rather than Jock, and I really wish Shino was Sisterly or even Snooty. Peppy doesn't suit her at all.
Wait wait weait wait... I am, so freaking sure I had Ankha in my town in wild word.. I am so freking sure about this...
Cally looks like that one extremly popular blond squirl villager.
I have a feeling alfonso still has the mario shirt under the hoodie
I actually like Kiki new design. I think she looks even more adorable! She already was, but now even more!
the sheep villagers looked so much better when they just had a scarf and not the whole shirt, they just look so much more deflated and worse in new horizon
The sheep’s scarfs 2 shirts are criminal
I only played New Horizons & I never thought the characters had changed. Thank you for making this video.
The majority of these seem less "Changed design" and more "design realized."
Cube wearing a GameCube shirt is too cute!
i wouldve liked to see some differences in villager houses across games too. one of my favorite villagers kidd has a wildly different design in his new horizons house than it had in new leaf. made me kinda sad as the homely feel of his new leaf house was partly why he was my favorite
I currently have at least three squirrel villagers in my Animal crossing GameCube town. I think the other squirrel is Ricky and Hazel.
The sheep wearing shirts was a downgrade
you forgot the most important one (dr. shrunk put on pants. and grew a mustache i guess)
i’ll never forgive them for changing Isabelle’s voice in NH 💔
Right after you talked about the Viking bull he showed up In my hhp cafe
Ursula was cursed back in the day she always jumpscared me
Bliss was my secret island villager in the gamecube and I was so confused about her name change to Caroline
wolf link does have the shackle, its on his arm
Another name change is Azalea! She was originally Petunia. There’s also a cow Petunia?
