Don't know what setup they were using, but the amount of Orbs that can be created, with the amount bugs "coughGL255%cough" and the amount of other random stuff that happens, someone who is new might not know what is and isn't possible. People who've been around know this ain't possible without cheats, exploits, glitches, or trainers, but the new player would simply want the build to be just like that person without ever knowing what was going on.
Ain't defending this guy, just saying there's ALOT of dumb stuff in this game that makes no sense on the surface level.

I'm guessing that Bungie can easily access the Event Results information (and maybe even the entire scrolling combat log from the encounter), and see the clear signs of cheating. So this sort of shit can probably be detected even if nobody's streaming on the team.
not really, because from what little i understand, the whole point of this thing is that it denies sending data to the servers for validation and the client>server hand off doesn't work properly, furthermore to fix this problem would require a lot of engineering time and resources, something bungie doesn't care to even entertain doing, so don't expect this to change.

@@KaldwinUnderscore yes but you're assuming bungie has the tools and systems in place to find this sort of thing, you're also assuming they are actively looking for it, which based on all available information suggests that they aren't, lets assume for sake of arguement that there's 2 million individual players doing this content at the same time, trying to parse and sort through that much data to find maybe a handful of people is not something bungie, based on all past experience, would spend any resources to do when it's such a niche issue that affects such a miniscule number of people.

Your team played well together and you guys had fun. If you never get another World's First, then you still have a group of friends for life. Not trying to sound like Sora from Kingdom Hearts, but friends are more important.

you are completely correct, its not hard to find a high dps build that suits the player. wether you want to 1 shot a boss with void titan, go for it, you want to survive and be the person to tank thousands of hitpoints from ads, go for it. its not hard to find something that you want to play, and getting the exotics may be difficult, but its 100% worth the grind for them.
cheating in pve does seem kinda tame, but cheating in something like pvp or a Raid Race, it just makes the game un-fair, because you are forcing your way to the top, without giving any of the other players a single chance.
Worlds first raids are extremely difficult. Its only in destiny's actually hard content that people do shit like this. Some guy tried to do this with chaos reach in one LFG i was in and I immediately left. Fuck that shit

It's straight up discriminatory against people who don't have the bandwidth to stream and play simultaneously, which is actually a lot of people, ESPECIALLY in rural areas. Bungie needs to find another way to verify this stuff.

They knew something was up after the first time but intentionally kept the guy because getting rid of 17 million dps certainly would've hurt the run. They don't deserve the Day 1 emblem because it's OBVIOUS the entire team knew - you can't just ignore the 17 million dmg numbers in the post-wipe screen.
@@Chocula Exactly. The fact there's multiple clips of this happening and the guy is only kicked AFTER the kill. They are immediately "complaining" about it only once the kill happened. They also instantly know that they just cheated because no one questions what actually happened. If they were unaware people in the game would be like "wait wtf just happened?" but they all knew and went with it.

That's what happens when the raid is on a Friday. After 5 PM PST, the people who work at Bungie go home to relax and stuff like this slides underneath their watch because of this.

Do you seriously not think they have ways of checking this? That's why in every single raid race, after the final kill is done, there's a waiting period of sometimes days to confirm and validate the run

I like the idea of requiring someone to stream, but bungie does already have ways to detect a cheated run, it's why they investigate any world's first to make sure its legit
My issue with the "requiring at least one person to stream per fireteam" is that it would blow out twitch's/UA-cam's back side. i doubt their servers could handle all that traffic. Maybe Bungie could require at least one person on the fireteam to use recording software that uploads to them directly, maybe just built into the game for specific events like this.

I was in an lfg once for garden of salvation and one dude was trying to net limit the final encounter and we were all cringing. It’s like what’s the point. Just do the encounter. It wasn’t our first time running and he was trying to get it done fast but like, it would’ve saved like 2 mintes
My first, maybe second? GOS run was for Divinity. The boss kept glitching out during DPS phase. His health bar would shoot back up, or he would start taking less damage. It happened either way and we tried like 10 times. Someone got frustrated and left so someone brought In their friend who could do the net limit thing. The boss actually glitched again to where he was a tank, and even with net limiting we had to second phase lol. I'm sure some people never have issues with that boss but plenty of people do as well. Net limiting is trash when used in a competitive event but god bless whoever that was for making that GOS completion possible.
GoS boss is the only place in the game where net limiting is acceptable lmao most painful raid experience hands down

that guy was in my fireteam earlier that day as well and he had like 25 goldie shots on warpriest... i insta reported/kicked after 7 shots after realizing he had celestial nighthawk on when i turned reloading my witherhoard to grab some heavy that dropped earlier when we were doing the plates, it may have been easier for us with him but me and the other 4 on my team (out 5th couldnt make it so we lfgd) wanted legit and was right behind you guys at the beginning....

I watched the complete vod (it’s like 20 mins of footage in that part). It looks like they didn’t notice the health bar or orbs because they were focused on dps and tbh I understand that as it was the first time the guy did silly damage so they weren’t looking for it, they then saw the 17 mil and a few people were saying “wtf” but narrowed it down to a visual bug and were understandably sus. The 2nd time he did it was a few runs later and obviously everyone is looking out for it now and notices. They kicked the guy and they were visibly angry at him for it. I don’t think it’s the fireteams fault at all. It looks like the first time the guy did it was at warpriest

Very well could have been just that. The problem is that they knew something fishy happened because there's no way they'd have been able to do so much damage in a single phase.
They should have backed out and started over, especially after kicking the culprit
based solely on the lack of similarities in clan tag id imagine that is the case, but should have been kicked on the first wipe regardless. 17m is only obtainable by intentionally limiting/hacking.

After they saw the dps they should've kicked him but also if worlds first was already achieved then I'd say it's not worth caring about that some randos do this. I don't see it as any different from waiting until you're over leveled and can one phase the boss anyways tbh. I wouldn't be as pissed off as them for sure. The reason? A clear is a clear and I just got free loot. That's it.

I feel so sorry for that streamer cuz that guy ruined their worlds first
what really sucks is bungie's whole reason for making the raid on friday was to avoid bugs. my team was stuck on totems for 7 hours before we eventually gave up because enemies kept teleporting/respawning. rezzes were literally moving around the map and contest mode was pretty hard for us on that specific encounter. the champions wouldnt stun and no matter how hard we got the mechanics down, something eventually bugged out either at the start or right before we powered the glyph entirely.

Yeah, that unstoppable that climbs out of the floor in the middle room stomped us a ton of times. It was super annoying. It turned out, you have to wait for it to fully get out of the floor and take his normal stance before you shoot him. Such a pain
one thing I hate about unstoppable stuns, is the stun while in another animation, it sucks a lot, because the stun timer will play out, and you can't stun the champion, but the champion can still stomp mechanic you to death, instantly. champs for me just kind of makes some things like raids iffy, raids should just be run whatever you want, but champs just make it a lock and key kind of thing.
@@joshuacalebroman478 yeah, i hate that when you stun an unstop, while its in an animation, like the unstop that lands on the drill in the inverted spire gm, or that ogre, the stun timer will run, but you can't do anything else to stop it. until the timer is up. it just shows bungie's dev's weren't really thinking about that, or, just didn't do anything about it.

I've had this experience with raiding too. After Day 1 of Deep Stone, we were wanting to finish the raid, and had to LFG. When we got to boss, we accidentally had 2 people using Divinity, and never realized it until DPS started. We instantly melted the boss- but not because of Div. Turns out, our LFG was shooting Xenophage like an 850 Auto rifle. We circulated the clip thinking it was double div, but after watching the clip a few times, we figured out it was him. Through some people we met through the debacle, we found someone who knew someone from Bungie, and got him banned. Since then I've been kinda scared of doing LFGs, and I just stick to my clan now.

Bungie checks every team specifically to catch stuff like this, they've been doing that for years now. I'm certain Bungie can look at the same damage stats that you see when you wipe and see the obvious cheating happening there.

It’s not ruined, they didn’t win. I’m sure bungie has the ability to look at the damage and see something is wrong, especially for a raid race. Sweat needs a title that gets clicks.
Except, use your brain a little. This is an obvious case, but what's stopping the next world's first from being ruined by entire teams net limiting a tiny bit for an extra 2% damage per damage phase? Or they hit enrage and are about to wipe at a 1%, but decide to cheat and net limit to victory? This gives a massive edge to the cheaters during world's first, and would be impossible to really identify.
@@frogcatdog Use your brain. This is an egregious example, but imagine for every obvious cheater, there are probably dozens of more skilled and subtle cheaters. How are you going to look at damage numbers and detect that a team cheated when they only subtly boosted their damage like 2% during final damage phase? Still a massive advantage for cheaters and could save them hours over non cheating teams.

one of the reasons i quit destiny was this rule bungie said if you are on a team where someone cheated, you all get banned. im a 1st gen gamer. im old now and i cant be sure who is good and who is cheating these days. i wasnt willing to do strikes anymore because of this rule change, and i had no clan left, never been raiding because the complicated mechanics wouldnt be fun for me, and the rule left me nothing to do in the game. i bought everything except the new light with the move to steam, because i had destiny 2 on battlenet before the move and bought it and the dlc. but the rule plus the seasons plus cost of the dlc all caused me to quit. i didnt want to play any team mode in case someone was cheating and i got banned even though i had no clue it wasnt them being skilled. i couldnt afford both the dlc and the seasons as i struggled to save to buy this new pc i am typing on now. and i got stuck on lightfall - paid for it to get strand but strand is gated behind a calus fight that you beat him then he regens full health and airstrike with darkness WHILE UNDERGROUND A LONG LONG WAY.
the regen put me off the fight, and the darkness airstrike plus the constant respawning adds just made me rage quit and uninstall the game less than a day after i reinstalled it, having watched raidzone. the game takes about 5 hours to download. if i buy a dlc i expect to get the effing subclass pretty damn quick not get edged by being allowed to use it in the campaign to stretch out a bad short story and then gating it behind a boss fight which taunts you by respawning the boss again at full health and different costume - oh and if you die, theres no checkpoints so you have to start all over again from scratch. the hell with that.
final shape may well be a good story and fitting end but i have to see it through youtube because im not wasting any more money on bungie with their one is a cheater, lets ban innocents and the cheater together attitude. i dont accept injustice and im not an infinite money machine, nor psychic and a mind reader.
at this point, the ONLY way i spend on bungie stuff is if they follow through on what i think is an april fools day twitter/x post: it said sep 9 2024 for the full light and dark saga on pc. destiny 1 and 2 from start to finish, the whole story as one campaign, releasing on steam. it was posted april 1st, but if they actually did that, i would buy it.

I’m glad you brought this to light sweat. Being a loser or cheater is something I can never condone. People just need to accept the challenge of this game and stop resorting to cheats or exploits to get somewhere in this game. When you do this you take away the skill of the game. I play pvp mainly but by God their are pve gods out there and people need to respect them.
cant really call someone a pve god when you can just never die and do everything you want without even getting shot at with perma invis builds, titan barrier spam, warlock devour builds. Takes a lot of "skill" out of pve content when you have it ez mode in every piece of content.

Meh it's just a game. After you're still going to get on with your life, find other games to play other things to do. Certainly not the end of the world lol. Cheating in and of itself is not a good thing because it escalates and can snowball into other things. The most damage I got on warpriest was like 1.4m?? I think. It was chaos and I forgot exactly but it was over a mil for a few of the wipes. But that was contest mode and all that. 17m is like 3 full fireteams of damage.

given the fact that there was a pretty big indicator and they waited till the beat the encounter i could see giving everyone involved a temp ban as a warning of "hey this is unacceptable, its against terms you should have handled it sooner" but perma banning the offender. and i 100 percent agree that 1 person should be required to stream during the race to be considered. at the very least (though im not experienced enough in the recording biz to know how well and easy it can be to fake something like that) require a time stamped and ip stamped recording that can be sent to a secure bungie email for verification. (tho going through all that footage would take alot of man power that may not be worth it to bungie). the temp bans would be on a case by case though because if someone hides it well enough it can be difficult to tell or impossible to react fast enough to stop something in the heat but if its clear like in the clip during a wipe screen they should have immediately been questioning and its kind of obvious and they chose to finish the encounter first.

Bungie can view the match/activity from the perspective of any player. Meaning they can usually see whatever it was you were seeing. Microsoft can take it even farther with their ability to see what you were doing on your console/PC...I didn't know how much they could see until I needed a refund once for some purchases that were made via an on screen error message. They're able to see everything that goes on if they look at it.

I'm sure even if you net limit, they have some in-game reporter that reports the damage done on a "cleared" encounter. Obviously, we can't see it. But Bungie would be able to deconstruct who did what damage, with what weapon, how many shots were fired, and whether or not the damage numbers match up.
Seeing a guy do 17M damage in a single phase would be immediate disqualification, given that there's zero ways that's possible.
Mandatory streaming from one fireteam member at least is absolutely reasonable. If you have the ability to play destiny, live streaming is easily accessible. Removing net limiting would be optimal, but from a development perspective might take more effort than it’s worth given how much content bungie needs to put out in a year.

I think one option would open raids like 10 days after a season or expansion. It won't solve all issues but it will give people time to unlock artifact mods and character builds. Less incentive cheat. Currently it's all rush is in a small time frame and people have life commitments. Also streaming would be the worse idea ever. That would basically have negative effect on people who are not confident talking etc in front of strangers. Not sure how they would handle net limiting though

As a ps speedrunner most if not all of the people on so who are on console and are in the top 50 speedrank are limiters, if you go onto rr right now and look at the fastest kings fall you can tell it’s not legit, those are also the same people that limit on their day one

Yeah... in a hard core MMO raiding, many teams that are in the top % don't actually stream their attempts so they can not give away tips for teams trying to catch up, plus if an LFG group somehow wins a world's first, how are you expecting that many people to be required to stream? You can't. You just gotta fix the issue at its core. If something looks sus on the data end of the clear, then nullify the clear for the belt.

So I’m guessing he thought it was bugged damage numbers then when he noticed how fast the boss died when they fought it the second time that’s when he realized the person was cheating. That’s the only reasonable thing I can come up with.

Someone joined our LFG group on warpriest and (same guy) tried to do the same thing… we failed the encounter and reported and kicked him. I hope we don’t get punished for some random guy doing that.
If I'm understanding this right: they pulled, wiped, saw his damage, pulled, killed it and THEN booted him. The second they saw him do 17 million damage, he should've been gone. The fact they kept him around until it died, THEN got rid of him, they're as complicit as the cheater imo. A completely new player could look at that first damage chart and know something's up. "Make sure he's cheating" my ass.

I seemed like the guys who were in the clip were on an lfg team or something similar. The guy probably joined the team did one run to get to boss dps and then they kicked them, seemed like the streamer/team were taking the right steps.
They literally kicked him and were all saying “wtf” after how can anyone think they were in on it.

While i do not encourage harassing the streamer because one of his teammates was cheating, the second you see and hear a million goldie shots go off, a ton of orbs get generated and a contest mode boss health bar start to melt you should kick that person immediatly. It's like seeing your teammate flying in crucible and waiting for the next match in case it was a fluke

How does net limiting even give extra golden gun rounds? How is it even possible considering you have to be connected to other players? It would make sense if the other person was leader and therefore the start of the P2P connection (since yes, bungie still uses peer-to-peer networking) but he obviously wasn't since the guy recording kicked him out.

I was highly disappointed with challenge mode for this raid. They made all of the encounters really fun, and I don’t care how much someone will call me bad, the fact that the challenges are almost entirely based on rng, and plus warpriest is so buggy, is infuriating. I can’t even begin to explain how incredibly angry I am that I didn’t finish because of how many times we would get him down to 1hp and then fail because the challenge bugged

For Something obvious like this, i think bungie will be able to see the statistics on a run and immediatly see this 17+m dmg an the others did almoust nothing in dmg and would immediatly disqualify them, even without streaming. And as for Speedrunning: Glitches and other things have always been a part of it, thats why there are categories, so if you dont want to do things like that, or you cant do them, just take another category. But i understand your arguments and hope they find solutions.
