I came to the conclusion long ago that shipping a car just isn't worth the trouble. But what about a classic motorcycle, in parts in different balikbayan boxes? (I'd probably need to put the frame in a shipping container.) I don't care if I could never register it for Philippine roads. I'd just keep it in my living room as an ornament.
Actually what you can do is connect 3 macho boxes together. That frame should fit I've done the triple box a few time already and have never had a problem. You do pay for 3 boxes but totally worth it. Just build a wooden frame in the boxes and fasten that frame to the wood
Hi Grandpa, I was told the same thing your vehicle could not be more than 5 years old, the shipping cost would be around $3,000 US. Dollars, that was about 4 years ago. Now the price is sky hi. @@mikejones5364 That is a misconception by people who have not experienced being an expat in other Asian countries. PHL is just in the middle of the pack when it comes to corruption in Asian countries. There is a worse level of corruption in other Asian countries like Cambodia, Myanmar and Bangladesh. Corruption in PHL is about the same level as Thailand.
I heard before they go by the Kelly Blue book value, because it is accessible on the internet. Don’t know these days if BOC uses this. Also, car should be less than 5 years old. They are imitating Singapore. Jeepney & tricycles are banned in BGC. Jeepneys used for business transport can only operate on outer perimeter of BGC . Pedicabs before was used in BGC but was banned.

Regarding your vlog on bringing your personal vehicle to the Philippines, I have high school classmate who is now a customs broker. His advice was If and unless the car that I plan to bring back home is a luxury car like BMW or Mercedes then it will not be advisable. The tariffs on vehicles will be the same as luxury vehicles. never bring BMW,just remember parts are they available in the Philippines. Do you think they have good BMW mechanics....BMW are tricky to fix and expensive because I have 4 of them..
Also consider the parts for some cars. Some models of cars in the USA have a different engine in the Philippines i.e. Kia Rio has a 1.6L in the USA while the Philippines is only offered a 1.3L. When you do find the parts, then you have to import them in and there you have more customs duties just for the parts. I had a cousin who brought an Opal in, then it needed repair. The car just sat there waiting for at least a year, I still don't know if it ever got fixed.
@@flipicaneze if you are going to bring in a Highlander you need to convert it to a double cab pickup i saw an RX that was converted to pickup, You can convert it to LPG as well since gas is expensive here even diesel is the same, Highly advice to bring a truck like Tacoma or Tundra since its still legal to bring in trucks used/New but you need like 6 filipinos so that you can save on shipping container and it you need to chop it. OMG! Only in the Philippines…corruption galore! I give my tip to the person picking up my Balikbayan box! Those guys work hard. I even offer bottled water or Gatorade. Buying used cars in the Philippines is tricky…I found out working with Filipinos the hard way! American colleagues are much forthright and tells you the way it is…no going around the bushes like most Pinoys. If you are living in bgc. Everything you need is a grab ride away. Parking is very difficult. For out of town trips, rent a car with driver is available. The jeepner has no power steering. Not advisable for seniors. Also not good for high crime areas.

Hello po! It’s even hard to buy a car in the Philippines if you’re over 65 and you’ll need a co signer for financing. Plus, the dealer have to special order and takes about 3 weeks for shipment from Thailand or Japan. I didn’t buy a car because to much hassles and I will be here only for 90 days anyway.
I checked into this shipping a vehicle to Manila from Guam, and the requirements just on the US side of the house to ship it are this the vehicle must be at least a munimum of one year old at time of shipment and not older than 5 years old. As a minimum and also i was told what i would spend to send a $27,000 vehicle which was a Jeep Compass i purchased in Jan 2021, i would be able to buy 3 of the same vehicles in Manila new.
Get a decent shipping company at the country of origin. Just by the fact that it went thru a cruise ship and not a cargo container ship. it looks like the shipper itself is engaging in a corrupt transaction. I wonder if the shipper is laundering by trying to evade the legal and correct practice of shipping personal and household goods.

the lexus dealer told me I needed to pay them $10,000 dollars just to get them to service my car. being that it is not bought here. the locals have all the angles to catch you. trust me do not bring your car here. do not buy a use car her unless you really know the person selling it. you have no idea of maintenance record of that vehicle. its not like buying in USA. I bought new and glad i did. I needed something dependable. i had a credit union in the USA to finance a new vehicle for me here. Toyota SUV.
The US dollar is very strong right now. Just buy a new car in the Philippines. We bought a top of the line Ford Territory which is equivalent to a Toyota RAV4 for about $22,000 out the door.
@@mikejones5364 Toyota has had an assembly plant in Laguna since the 90s. One of the reasons locally assembled Toyota vehicles are less expensive than the US counterpart models is the cheaper cost of labor. Plus, the emission standards in PHL are not as strict as those in California.
I will be bringing my 1984 JEEP CJ to the Philippines. The reasons are many: As all things break down it is easy to work on, It's better than a JEEPNEY as it does have A/C, it's safer than a motorcycle, I can haul things in the back as I plan on exploring the Philippines, I already know what I have and it's dependable, Mines fiberglass so no rust issues, it's smaller than a full size truck, It should fit right in with the JEEP culture there, when it does break down it's not a dealer fix only item. I've checked prices on used there and the price gets super high for JUNK.

Commenting on that Porsche owner maybe because he wants to bring the car with him not to drive around but keep it as a collectible after all it is a 1967 Porsche. And germany do have a speed limit if you drive on a side road and certain highway. But you right it is better to buy a car in the philippines rather than shipping your own car. Even if yours is paid up the amount of money you will be paying for taxes and Grease money. might as well buy a new car. It might be slightly higher but it will save you the headaches and pains.
I was told by King Panda that importing a 5 year old car was so cost prohibitive. I wanted to bring my Xterra that was near perfect condition. So I just buy a new truck here.
it's not about letting go stuff. I've sold my bulldozers, my guns, a shop full of tools. My JEEP is just practical. I can't find anything there to replace its usefulness. I've looked. My vehicle is paid for and it's extremely dependable. It's also so much safer than a scooter or motorcycle. I want to explore the Philippines.
Hello Grandpa Vlogger, My wife and I have recently retired and relocated from California to the Philippines (I am a native Pennsylvanian from Bethlehem by the way). We followed many of your videos and they helped us with our move. However we have run into a huge problem which I do not think you have covered (perhaps you have and we missed it). The problem is we cut off our US phones when we left as we intended to (and did) get local carrier service here in the Philippines. Now it seems modern online security is extremely tied to the phone number provided. We have lost internet access to multiple needs. Banking (credit and savings), Auto Insurance companies, Amazon, Gmail and I am sure there will be others. It seems everything where we have an account on line, the website picks up that we are trying to log in from an unusual place and blocks us. It then sends a text code to our phone of record, to the phone we have cancelled, and we can not obviously access that code. I am having a huge problem trying to find customer service email addresses to request help. Seems email contact is a thing of the past. Anyway this might be worthy of informing your viewers as to the potential problem and stop this from happening to others Thanks. No ! No ! Red tape, taxes, extortion by the customs etc. I tried it back on 1996. Just by buy locally available cars, they are priced about the same as here in the USA, except for low volume or luxury cars, which are expensive in the Ph. There are unique cars available in the Ph. That we cannot obtain here in the USA

My wife and I just bought an izuzu double cab flat bed truck for commercial and farm work in the province. I think we paid around $6,000 US dollars. I can’t imagine shipping a car or truck to the Philippines, or furniture for that matter.

Toyota cars in the philippines are inexpensive. Vios model sells for less than 1M. Camry about 2M. Dont buy 2nd hand because they are not reliable. And at your age, over 60 years old, you do not Want to worry about your car breaking down .
Sorry, not true, I bought a second hand Honda City that I have had for almost 2.5 years and is soon to round the 100k kilometers and working fine. Done some minor repairs and oil changes, but otherwise runs very well.
It depends upon the cars L .GP. 2nd hand Honda cars did not let us down as opposed to American car,Toyota and even cheap cars from Korea,thus far. Buy cars at a reliable car dealers and you won't have problems.Car maintenance should be a must as well. Buying a new car is not ideal as it depreciates the price after 1 month of driving.It is like throwing 1/3 of your money .

Gas is like 80 peso a liter last I looked in Phillipines, that about $6.50 per gallon. Gas is so high there, so is electrical, so is food like meat or green vegatable, about 4 to 6 times higher compared to USA
The shipping cost would not be the problem. The customs duty on personal imports used to be about 100% then customs officers would need their palms greased. Personally I don’t think it would be worth the effort.
I love American muscle cars old trucks and I am actually planning to somehow import some in the future. Corruption in the BOC is nothing new. I wish and hope that our current administration will address this problem anytime soon.
I can make a documentary of sending cars from canada to philippines .. maybe a 2001 mustang since there very cheap in our area. Around 2 to 3k second hand for experiment purposes.. i will document everything and will be advised by both lawyers from 2 countries to be clean. Will be getting proof of sale. Etc should i? Just get rid of your old baggage and move on . You can get everything you need there for half of what you paid for it in the states and you don't have to deal with the b.s . You can get a base model 4 door hilux for less than 20k brand new. So just sell your vehicles and start fresh. I do recommend buying a truck or suv because the roads are not very good and sometimes you end up on a rap road which is usually filled with major pot holes. Used cars miraculously maintain their value according to the owners and between lack of maintenance and high mileage never devalue so don't bother looking at anything used .
I disagree regarding buying a used car. Just like buying Used house as well you need to do your due diligence. Also i don't have to pay luxury tax buying used car.

Unless you know the person your buying the vehicle from I wouldn't buy a used vehicle there unless you are getting it dirt cheap. If it's still under manufacturers warranty and has all the documentation that the scheduled services have been done then perhaps but people there seem to think that mileage doesn't devalue a vehicle and want big money for high mileage vehicles to the point it just makes sense to buy new . Same with motorcycles as the typical mechanic over there doesn't know what they are doing and damage more things than they fix .
@@marcrichard7251 you will first need to get established at a bank which takes several months to show you have a steady income flow. Best to pay cash if you can or put a large down payment if they will allow you to do it. Interest rates are on the high side especially if you dealer finance so best to deal with a reputable bank like Citi bank or Wells Fargo . Phillyinthephillipines did a couple of blogs on purchasing a new vehicle and he can explain it in detail.

there are so many scammers when buying a used car if you respond to an ad more times then not it’s not the owner of the car people will see a car for sale and post it like it’s there’s and they get money from you as a middle man. I got discouraged and did not buy one
And if you file for a different title on your vehicle, but you have to file for the title on your vehicle this is only you on your vehicle and stands for you on your vehicle in definite that nobody could charge you any tax or anything on your vehicle

I looked into that many years ago and was advised that it"s illegal to do so. A foreigner must have a visa to do business in the Philippines and can only own a minority share. You may try to do it illegally but will run into problems. If a driver has any complaint about you the law will side against you because you are illegally profiting off a commercial vehicle. Insurance can be a problem as well. If one if your drives gets in an accident with another vehicle you are financially responsible. I have a foreigner friend who tried this. It was more headaches than it was worth. Sometimes a driver would not return the tricycle for weeks especially if they know that if you reported it to police you would get yourself in trouble. You would have no protection from the law.
Here is one story. I had a Filipino friend who owned a tricycle but was in dire financial need. He wanted to borrow P50thousand. We went to a lawyer to put the loan in a legal contract. I would not be charging interest but put his tricycle as collateral. The lawyer wrote up the contract and all was legal. My "friend" never paid back a single peso. It has gone on now for 8 years now and still nothing. After 2 years I went back to the lawyer to see about taking the tricycle which the contract listed as collateral. I could do NOTHING! because the tricycle was listed as a commercial vehicle and as a foreigner I couldn't take a commercial vehicle away from a Filipino.
Same thing is happening in Mexico! Coding system is not working because those who can afford two cars buy another car so that coding will not hurt them. End result is the same traffic congestion and same pollution.
Just buy a car in the philippines, If your retired have to pay cash or proof of income to get car financing and get part time driver its a lot easier specially in traffic

I have strongly considered doing exactly this and weighed the pro/con. After considering the "Vehicle Appropriate for the conditions present" statement, I decided none of my current US vehicles meet the criteria. The costs associated with shipping a car there greatly outweigh any benefits when you consider the kind of vehicles that are locally available in the Philippines. The roads there are tight, congested, and mostly rough outside the major cities. Take these factors into consideration over driving comfort. Cars with collision detection/warning will freak out over the scooters riding 2-3 feet from you at 30mph. I also believe the emissions control will have to be tweaked to deal with the different formula used in the Philippines. Add that all up, and I will buy a HiLux or Jimny when I'm permenently there. Not all people use cars for commuting. Some people build their cars for collection, tracks, drag strips etc. with your logic, car manufacturers needs to stop making super cars since it’s not practical anywhere in the world but maybe in Mars 😂
I brought a laptop from Phil to US to Phil. It is totally fine.Just make sure it goes with your hand carry bag. If you put it in your luggage, there is a tendency it will be broken if you don't wrap it right.
Never ship your vehicle to the Philippines. Your tax and grease money is more than the worth of your old vehicle and the new vehicle in the Philippines. It's wise to sell it and buy a new car in the Philippines. I bought a 2000 Mercedes Benz E320 in September 2000 and at one time in 2010 I planned to ship it to the Philippines but I changed my mind after finding that it will cost me a fortune to ship. I was told to pay roughly 100% tax of the original value of my car plus the shipping and grease money.
grandpa, i would highly recommend purchasing a multi purpose vehicle. something reliable that you can use for grocery shopping and occasional travel. you will need something that's equipped with AC at least, for obvious reasons. personally, i wouldn't buy a jeep or "owner" as the locals would call it, unless you live in the province where there's less traffic. update on the porsche, it has finally arrived, inspected and released order given by the authorities, taxes to be paid tomorrow. hopefully, it'll be in my garage by tomorrow evening...fingers crossed!

No they only tip the ones bringing the boxes, my wife tiped them 200 pesos for 14 boxes i send from usa , i paid $154.00 per box. To mail each box $154 x14 = $2156.00
I was going to rent a cargo container to ship a pickup to iloilo, philippines from memphis, tn. 1 way only. It take 3-5 months a $4500.00 plus fees $2000.00and insurance $2000.00 total $8500.00 for a pickup 3 years old. After it arrived i only be able to drive it 1 year then it be junk can not resale because it 5 years old, not legal on roads without a tag. Can not buy a tag for 5 years and older the transportation office said in iloilo where you buy your tag and register it. Thats a $20,000.00 pickup drive 1 year and it junk plus $8000.00 shipping or by a new veihecle from $1400.00 to $25000.00 , sound dumb to ship one, that only 1 way also , it double to send round trip

Pls check w/ the Bureau of Import Services under DTI. I understand it has different rules on taxes for returning Filipino only if the car has been already used from country of origin, not new. The estimated time frame has to be cleared w/ the broker.

I came to the conclusion long ago that shipping a car just isn't worth the trouble. But what about a classic motorcycle, in parts in different balikbayan boxes? (I'd probably need to put the frame in a shipping container.) I don't care if I could never register it for Philippine roads. I'd just keep it in my living room as an ornament.
Actually what you can do is connect 3 macho boxes together. That frame should fit I've done the triple box a few time already and have never had a problem. You do pay for 3 boxes but totally worth it. Just build a wooden frame in the boxes and fasten that frame to the wood

PHL is just in the middle of the pack when it comes to corruption in Asian countries. There is a worse level of corruption in other Asian countries like Cambodia, Myanmar and Bangladesh. Corruption in PHL is about the same level as Thailand.

Regarding your vlog on bringing your personal vehicle to the Philippines, I have high school classmate who is now a customs broker. His advice was If and unless the car that I plan to bring back home is a luxury car like BMW or Mercedes then it will not be advisable. The tariffs on vehicles will be the same as luxury vehicles.
Also he said just to recover on your tariffs it will be advisable to sell your luxury car.

Also consider the parts for some cars. Some models of cars in the USA have a different engine in the Philippines i.e. Kia Rio has a 1.6L in the USA while the Philippines is only offered a 1.3L. When you do find the parts, then you have to import them in and there you have more customs duties just for the parts. I had a cousin who brought an Opal in, then it needed repair. The car just sat there waiting for at least a year, I still don't know if it ever got fixed.

@@flipicaneze if you are going to bring in a Highlander you need to convert it to a double cab pickup i saw an RX that was converted to pickup, You can convert it to LPG as well since gas is expensive here even diesel is the same, Highly advice to bring a truck like Tacoma or Tundra since its still legal to bring in trucks used/New but you need like 6 filipinos so that you can save on shipping container and it you need to chop it.

Buying used cars in the Philippines is tricky…I found out working with Filipinos the hard way! If you are living in bgc. Everything you need is a grab ride away. Parking is very difficult. For out of town trips, rent a car with driver is available. The jeepner has no power steering. Not advisable for seniors. Also not good for high crime areas.

Hello po! It’s even hard to buy a car in the Philippines if you’re over 65 and you’ll need a co signer for financing. Plus, the dealer have to special order and takes about 3 weeks for shipment from Thailand or Japan. I didn’t buy a car because to much hassles and I will be here only for 90 days anyway.
I checked into this shipping a vehicle to Manila from Guam, and the requirements just on the US side of the house to ship it are this the vehicle must be at least a munimum of one year old at time of shipment and not older than 5 years old. As a minimum and also i was told what i would spend to send a $27,000 vehicle which was a Jeep Compass i purchased in Jan 2021, i would be able to buy 3 of the same vehicles in Manila new.

Just by the fact that it went thru a cruise ship and not a cargo container ship. it looks like the shipper itself is engaging in a corrupt transaction. I will be bringing my 1984 JEEP CJ to the Philippines. The reasons are many: As all things break down it is easy to work on, It's better than a JEEPNEY as it does have A/C, it's safer than a motorcycle, I can haul things in the back as I plan on exploring the Philippines, I already know what I have and it's dependable, Mines fiberglass so no rust issues, it's smaller than a full size truck, It should fit right in with the JEEP culture there, when it does break down it's not a dealer fix only item. I've checked prices on used there and the price gets super high for JUNK.

Hello Grandpa Vlogger, My wife and I have recently retired and relocated from California to the Philippines (I am a native Pennsylvanian from Bethlehem by the way). We followed many of your videos and they helped us with our move.
However we have run into a huge problem which I do not think you have covered (perhaps you have and we missed it).
The problem is we cut off our US phones when we left as we intended to (and did) get local carrier service here in the Philippines. Now it seems modern online security is extremely tied to the phone number provided. We have lost internet access to multiple needs. Banking (credit and savings), Auto Insurance companies, Amazon, Gmail and I am sure there will be others.
It seems everything where we have an account on line, the website picks up that we are trying to log in from an unusual place and blocks us. It then sends a text code to our phone of record, to the phone we have cancelled, and we can not obviously access that code. I am having a huge problem trying to find customer service email addresses to request help. Seems email contact is a thing of the past.
Anyway this might be worthy of informing your viewers as to the potential problem and stop this from happening to others

Just by buy locally available cars, they are priced about the same as here in the USA, except for low volume or luxury cars, which are expensive in the Ph. There are unique cars available in the Ph. That we cannot obtain here in the USA

My wife and I just bought an izuzu double cab flat bed truck for commercial and farm work in the province. I think we paid around $6,000 US dollars. I can’t imagine shipping a car or truck to the Philippines, or furniture for that matter.

Sorry, not true, I bought a second hand Honda City that I have had for almost 2.5 years and is soon to round the 100k kilometers and working fine. Done some minor repairs and oil changes, but otherwise runs very well.
It depends upon the cars L .GP. 2nd hand Honda cars did not let us down as opposed to American car,Toyota and even cheap cars from Korea,thus far.

Gas is like 80 peso a liter last I looked in Phillipines, that about $6.50 per gallon. Gas is so high there, so is electrical, so is food like meat or green vegatable, about 4 to 6 times higher compared to USA
The shipping cost would not be the problem. The customs duty on personal imports used to be about 100% then customs officers would need their palms greased. Personally I don’t think it would be worth the effort.

Just get rid of your old baggage and move on . You can get everything you need there for half of what you paid for it in the states and you don't have to deal with the b.s . You can get a base model 4 door hilux for less than 20k brand new. So just sell your vehicles and start fresh. I do recommend buying a truck or suv because the roads are not very good and sometimes you end up on a rap road which is usually filled with major pot holes. Used cars miraculously maintain their value according to the owners and between lack of maintenance and high mileage never devalue so don't bother looking at anything used .

Unless you know the person your buying the vehicle from I wouldn't buy a used vehicle there unless you are getting it dirt cheap. If it's still under manufacturers warranty and has all the documentation that the scheduled services have been done then perhaps but people there seem to think that mileage doesn't devalue a vehicle and want big money for high mileage vehicles to the point it just makes sense to buy new . Same with motorcycles as the typical mechanic over there doesn't know what they are doing and damage more things than they fix .
@@marcrichard7251 you will first need to get established at a bank which takes several months to show you have a steady income flow. Best to pay cash if you can or put a large down payment if they will allow you to do it. Interest rates are on the high side especially if you dealer finance so best to deal with a reputable bank like Citi bank or Wells Fargo . Phillyinthephillipines did a couple of blogs on purchasing a new vehicle and he can explain it in detail.

With all that money you can buy 30 tricycles in the Philippines, open a business leasing the tricycles and a year latter buy a car there.
I looked into that many years ago and was advised that it"s illegal to do so. A foreigner must have a visa to do business in the Philippines and can only own a minority share. You may try to do it illegally but will run into problems. If a driver has any complaint about you the law will side against you because you are illegally profiting off a commercial vehicle. Insurance can be a problem as well. If one if your drives gets in an accident with another vehicle you are financially responsible. I have a foreigner friend who tried this. It was more headaches than it was worth. Sometimes a driver would not return the tricycle for weeks especially if they know that if you reported it to police you would get yourself in trouble. You would have no protection from the law.
Here is one story. I had a Filipino friend who owned a tricycle but was in dire financial need. He wanted to borrow P50thousand. We went to a lawyer to put the loan in a legal contract. I would not be charging interest but put his tricycle as collateral. The lawyer wrote up the contract and all was legal. My "friend" never paid back a single peso. It has gone on now for 8 years now and still nothing. After 2 years I went back to the lawyer to see about taking the tricycle which the contract listed as collateral. I could do NOTHING! because the tricycle was listed as a commercial vehicle and as a foreigner I couldn't take a commercial vehicle away from a Filipino.

I have strongly considered doing exactly this and weighed the pro/con. After considering the "Vehicle Appropriate for the conditions present" statement, I decided none of my current US vehicles meet the criteria. The costs associated with shipping a car there greatly outweigh any benefits when you consider the kind of vehicles that are locally available in the Philippines. The roads there are tight, congested, and mostly rough outside the major cities. Take these factors into consideration over driving comfort. Cars with collision detection/warning will freak out over the scooters riding 2-3 feet from you at 30mph. I also believe the emissions control will have to be tweaked to deal with the different formula used in the Philippines. Add that all up, and I will buy a HiLux or Jimny when I'm permenently there.

It is totally fine.Just make sure it goes with your hand carry bag. If you put it in your luggage, there is a tendency it will be broken if you don't wrap it right.
Never ship your vehicle to the Philippines. Your tax and grease money is more than the worth of your old vehicle and the new vehicle in the Philippines. It's wise to sell it and buy a new car in the Philippines. I bought a 2000 Mercedes Benz E320 in September 2000 and at one time in 2010 I planned to ship it to the Philippines but I changed my mind after finding that it will cost me a fortune to ship. I was told to pay roughly 100% tax of the original value of my car plus the shipping and grease money.
grandpa, i would highly recommend purchasing a multi purpose vehicle. something reliable that you can use for grocery shopping and occasional travel. you will need something that's equipped with AC at least, for obvious reasons. personally, i wouldn't buy a jeep or "owner" as the locals would call it, unless you live in the province where there's less traffic. update on the porsche, it has finally arrived, inspected and released order given by the authorities, taxes to be paid tomorrow. hopefully, it'll be in my garage by tomorrow evening...fingers crossed!

It best to park ot here in usa at a close friend or realitive and go without one and buy one in a close friend or realitive name in philippines . If make a perminate resident of philippines sale car in usa and western union the money to you, ig $10 000.00 or more, use a bank to bank transaction. It ilegal in all countries to carry $10,000.00 or more in usa bonds or cash or equal value.all governments can arrest you plus take all moneys , it totally lost.

No they only tip the ones bringing the boxes, my wife tiped them 200 pesos for 14 boxes i send from usa , i paid $154.00 per box. To mail each box $154 x14 = $2156.00
I was going to rent a cargo container to ship a pickup to iloilo, philippines from memphis, tn. 1 way only. It take 3-5 months a $4500.00 plus fees $2000.00and insurance $2000.00 total $8500.00 for a pickup 3 years old. After it arrived i only be able to drive it 1 year then it be junk can not resale because it 5 years old, not legal on roads without a tag. Can not buy a tag for 5 years and older the transportation office said in iloilo where you buy your tag and register it. Thats a $20,000.00 pickup drive 1 year and it junk plus $8000.00 shipping or by a new veihecle from $1400.00 to $25000.00 , sound dumb to ship one, that only 1 way also , it double to send round trip

I been in philippines since 1980, i married in 1980 in philippines and i was in usa army . Im 64 now. On retirement. Plus you can not retire in philippines unless make a perminate resident. Must be approved by your wife on a 13a or the ssr visa cost from $1500.00 to $50,000.00 deposit and can not touch it unless cancel the visa and out of phippines.

You can be in philippines legal 3 years only, if not a perminate resident of philippines. Or you be black listed and that means put in jail and deported to usa border and usa pays the $thousands deportation fees and puts you in usa jail untill you show a legal usa passport not expired , and show them your legal usa residence and pay your fines before released our on probation. And you be banned from philippines forever. That is black listed. It not mater what you own or children or wife in philippines. You will be banned eternal.

If plan on driving in philuppines for up to 6 months and return to usa. Usa your drivers licence but they no good in philippines unless you purchass a internal drivers permit it goes with your good usa licence. It on internet called aaa insurance for a international drivers permit . Cost $20.00 only good for 6 months. If going be in philippines you need put up your usa licence and save and go get new phippines drivers licence. They have drivers edd class at a national college you can pay and take for cheaper insurance. But do not drive in phippines ilegal. It grounds for deportation .

What happens if you decide not to pay the import taxes and just walk away?
Pls check w/ the Bureau of Import Services under DTI. I understand it has different rules on taxes for returning Filipino only if the car has been already used from country of origin, not new. The estimated time frame has to be cleared w/ the broker.
