Your summary of Burnley shows me that stats should only be used as a tool as they can mislead, particularly the XG one. I don't think we've ridden our luck too much at all defensively, barring perhaps at Sunderland but we had a few mitigating factors that day. Trafford really has had little to do, but what he has done has been very competent. You mentioned how we normally line up with Cullen, Brownhill and Lauren. They have only started 4 of 18 games together this season. What has happened, is that we started the season with a squad, and after transfer deadline day half had left and we had a complete re-build and went to Sunderland for game 3 with a makeshift team. Sunderland battered us, but I think when every Claret saw our starting lineup that day, we expected to get beat. Since then Parker has been trying to work out a few things. Pires or Humphries at left back? Pires gives us a little more going forward and starting him recently has probably helped us offensively, but we lose a little height and solidity in defense. Then losing Foster, who plays the striker role. I think he's been missing about 10 games. Flemming is mobile, but more of a No10, Rodrigues is getting on and hardly played in two years and Hountondji is very raw. I expect a move in January for a striker as that's the biggest issue we face. Rodrigues has done well the last couple of games and as things stand would be my first pick of the ones we have. In midfield it has been more about fitting in Hannibal than the three you mentioned. Perhaps the biggest factor though has been switching wings for Koleosho and Anthony. Koleosho is much better on the left and whilst he hasn't been at his best recently, he's taking two defenders every time he gets the ball, which frees up space elsewhere. We just have to learn how best to capitalise on that. Anthony looks better on the right. With Redmond back on the bench, Foster nearly ready again and Ramsey maybe available in the New Year I think we have a lot of improvement left in us. Defence is good and we also have Worrall and Ekdal back fit again, both proven at this level.
Just me that thinks this should have been a separate pod about Sunderland.. even when talking about Leeds and Blackburn it gets steered back to Sunderland
I was at the match and believe that the ref was out of his depth. He missed a blatant back pass in the second half everyone around me was astonished he missed it. S’land were the best team overall but seemed to run out of steam with about 20 minutes left. I will say that the S’land lad went down like he’d been shot after Souttar touched him. A sending off nevertheless.
They was the better at cheating i will give you that the blades was robbed, sunderland should have had 3 yellows more than they did have you mention the back pass thats 1. Whistle went they kicked the ball stopping a quick free kick we could have had then as they set up for a free kicked before the ref blew for them to take it they booted the ball out our player then put his hands back on the ball to take the free kick, then simulation diving before the pen as it was a very soft challenge to go down for and then continuing to throw themselves around the pitch the red card was warrented and if it wasn't then soutars yellow wasn't a 2nd yellow considering you was literally holding our players to stop us even running for loose balls
Watch the foul in slow motion. Campbell pulls the balls back because the tackle is coming in. If the tackle (foul) doesn’t commence, then Campbell doesn’t change his progression towards goal.
By pulling the ball back, its not a clear goal scoring opportunity. You can't say "He pulled it back to create a clear goal scoring opportunity" because then by definition, its not a red.
Funny because sitting a stones throw away sideways on to this foul he was running forwards and never pulled it back are you from the var team ? Creating things that didn't happen ?
@@MilkButRawhe pulled it back because of the challenge coming in. That challenge was a foul, so the interpretation was that the foul prevented the goal scoring opportunity.
@@arklife99 No but they showed the replay after, during the half time break and at full time. At all times commentary and pundits all said it wasn't a red.
Regarding Chris Rigg calling a 17 year old a "generational talent" is a huge mistake. So many kids with allot of ability get that tag put on them at such a young age then because of that pressure gets to them and then they fail to deliver that tag if thats what they're being called from the off. At 17 who the hell knows how Rigg will be getting on years down the line. Right now he looks a very exciting young player in the championship thats it
Complaining about Mepham sending off speculating that he would have 100% got the ball if he’d hadn’t took the man and also that the check back 100% is not leading to a goalscoring. Neither team can complain about either sending off, the defenders both made mistakes as last men.
On Burnley: stats only tell half the story, Foot Mob rating Esteve as the lowest ranked defender out of the top 5 rankings shows they need to be coupled with watching games with eyes. Esteve has been one of if not THE best defender if not player in the whole 11. Burnley aren't riding their luck defensively
i had the same complaint when they covered coventry. Sure our stats were good, but at that point, 6 or 7 games into the season, we'd had 3 or 4 games where we looked miles off it, turns out things didn't really improve
Dave such a good guest. Kudos to George who was at the top of his game here.
