String Orchestra Grade 1
Feel the frigid chill of winter winds and brittle ice! This contemporary sounding work features quarter and half note rhythms in basic stepwise motion. Cello and bass sections have prominent lines and all notes fall within the range of the D major scale. Close (yet easy) intervals create interesting harmonies that hint at dissonance to represent the bitter cold of frozen ice.

This is such an easy song to play. It’s perfect if the cello players know how to do vibrato and you need another song for contest or a concert but you don’t have a lot of time. I love how cellos get melody at 21 and 33. It sounds so pretty. I’m in an 8th grade orchestra and we only had to run through this song a couple times to get it right.

Aha! I agree that its pretty easy but... it doesn't sound quite right when no one in your orchestra class can do vibrato. Even though it did sound amazing felt like I piece was missing when we played the piece at the concert. Just doesnt sound right without it!!

I agree too! When I was in 3rd grade, my orchestra teacher made us play this. Even though it was so easy for me, some of the kids complained about it being sooooooooooooo hard. None of the kids except for like me and another one kid knew how to do vibrato (playing cello) and all the kids playing violin and viola really wanted to sit down like us because they think this pieve was too hard😅
