අද අපි ඔයාලව අරන් යන්නෙ සතුරු ආක්‍රමණ හමුවේ දළදා වහන්සේ සඟවා තැබූ තවත් එක් පූජනීය ස්ථානයක් බලන්න. ඒ තමයි මාලිගාතැන්න රජ මහා විහාරය.
මාලිගාතැන්න රජ මහා විහාරය පිහිටා ඇත්තේ ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ බස්නාහිර පළාතේ ගම්පහ දිස්ත්‍රික්කයේ මල්වතුහිරිපිටිය ග්‍රාමයේය. මෙය ගම්පහ දිස්ත්‍රික්කයේ උසම ස්ථානයේ පිහිටි පුණ්‍ය භූමිය ලෙසද හඳුන්වන්න පුළුවන්.
මෙහි පහත මළුව සහ ඉහළ මළුව ලෙස විහාර මළු දෙකක් පිහිටා ඇත. මාලිගාතැන්න උඩ මළුවට යනවනම් මීටර් 850 ක් පමණ වනරොද මැදින් ගමන්කරන්න වෙනව.
මාලිගාතැන්න විහාරස්ථානයක් ලෙස ගොඩනැගෙන්නේ 1924 දී පමණ වුවද බු.ව 903 සිටම මෙම ස්ථානය පූජනීය ස්ථානයක් ලෙස හඳුන්වා තිබෙනව, ඒ එකල මෙහි වැඩ විසු අමිත්තභව නම් තෙරුන් වහන්සේ නමක් රහත් වීමත් සමඟයි. ජනප්‍රවාදයන්ට අනුව මෙම මාලිගාතැන්න භූමිය අනුරාධපුර යුගයේ ඇතිවූ චෝල ආක්‍රමණ හමුවේ වළගම්බා රජු සැඟව සිටි තවත් එක් ස්ථානායක් ලෙස හැඳින්වේ. තවද පෘතුගීසි යුගයේදී කෝට්ටේ රාජධානියේ රජකම් කළ "දොන් ජුවන් ධරමපාල" රජු කිතුනු ආගම වැළඳගැනීමත් සමඟ ශ්‍රී දළදා වහන්සේ සඟවා තැබූ ප්‍රථම ස්ථානය ලෙසද හැඳින්වේ.
මෙහි ඉහළ මළුව සඳහා ගමන් කරන්න තියෙන්නේ කැලෑබද කුඩා ආඩි පාරක් හරහාය. මෙම ගමනේදි ඔයාලට දෙගල්දොරුව දැකගන්න පුළුවන්. මෙය ආසියාවේ ඇති දිගම දෙගල්දොරුව ලෙසද හැඳින්වේ.
ඔයාල මේ දකින්නේ ඉහළ මළුවේ ප්‍රතිසංස්කරණ කටයුතු සඳහා පහළ සිට ඉහළට එන බැතිමතුන් පහළ මළුවේ ඇති ද්‍රව්‍ය ඉහළට ගෙනවිත් තිබෙන ආකාරයි. ඔයාලටත් පුළුවන්කමක් තියෙනවනම් පහළ මළුවේ ඇති ද්‍රව්‍ය පුළුවන් විදිහට ඉහළ මළුවට අරන් ඇවිත් පුණ්‍යකර්මයක් කරගන්නත් පුළුවන්.
Today we will take you to see another sacred place where Dalada (the tooth relic of Buddha) hid in the face of enemy attacks. That is Maligathenna Raja Maha Vihara.
Maligathenna Raja Maha Vihara is located in the village of Malvatuhiripitiya in the Gampaha district of the Western Province of Sri Lanka. This can also be called the highest temple in the Gampaha district.
There are two temple courtyards, the Pahala maluwa (lower site) and the Ihala maluwa (upper site). If you go to the Ihala Maluwa (upper site) of the Maligathenna, you have to walk through the forest for about 850 meters.
Although Maligathenna was built as a temple around 1924, this place has been known as a sacred place since 903 BC, when a monk named Amitabhava, became arhat. According to folklore, this temple site is known as another place where King Valagamba hid from the Chola invasions during the Anuradhapura period. It is also known as the first place where Sri Dalada was hidden after King "Don Juan Dharmapala" who reigned in the Kingdom of Kotte during the Portuguese period and converted to Christianity.
You have to go to the Ihala Maluwa (upper site) through a small forest road. On this trip, you can see the gorge (Degaldorowa). It is also known as the longest gorge (Degaldorowa) in Asia.
What you see here is how the devotees coming from the Pahala maluwa (lower site) have brought the materials from the Pahala maluwa (lower site) to the Ihala maluwa (upper site) for the renovation work. If you have the ability, you can bring the materials from the Pahala maluwa (lower site) to the Ihala maluwa (upper site) and make a charity.
