Can't complain about either selection on it's own but it still feels weird to put Aki (probably the best men's 12) at 13, where he severely underperformed

i also like her, but we need to take into consideration that her form is against women. There should be a mans and a womens teams of the year. If you put Vernier against a guy like Esterhuizen she would be burried ito the field ahaha. I dont think it make much sense to put her on a team with man.

Was slightly worried with Vernier getting it last year that she'd miss out, and with Vernier at 12 I was worried Aki would miss out - absolutely chuffed to see these two get their deserved recognition, two phenomenal players off the back of ridiculous years

I've come here today to eat some humble pie. I scoffed when i watched this 3 months ago at you picking gabriel vernier. I'll be honest i thought it was a token nod to the women's game & nothing more. But then i decided to watch this years w6n & see if there was any merit in it aaaaand...well i stand corrected! That girl runs the type of lines that i spend every 6 nations screaming at the tv for the men to run & her timing is exquisite! And she quite likes a tackle too! And so i am serving myself up a huge slice of humble pie & eating it dry! It was a bloody good shout squidge!

But Vernier and Aki were great! And Vernier adding an attacking dimension to her game would have given her the 12 jersey from me.
@@SeanMacRSA Vernier has always had the attack dimension. It's not added at all. And Kriel apart from that wonderful grubber for Kolbe against France was barely even mentioned in most games. Those saffa backs must get cold waiting for the ball to come.

The hate of all these people in the comments truly is a feast. The whole point of making one team, instead of two, is to not divide the more renown men’s rugby and the lesser renown women’s, and instead give them equal recognition in Squidge’s selection. Instead of complaining, people should just make their own videos if they all know better 😅
It doesn't make sense and it likely turns people away from the woman's game. Don't be blind to what people say because you automatically judge them with a certain collective view. That is asinine.

I have nothing against the women's game, but at the same time I'm not particularly interested in watching it for the most part. But at the same time, if Squidge wants to make a combined team, that's up to him, fair play...but please don't say things like Vernier is the best back on the planet in 2023, of any gender...at 5'4...ffs is everybody living in a fantasy of delusion? Lying about the women's game doesn't in anyway help to create an interest in it...if anything when I hear bollocks like that it turns me further away...the women's game is growing tremendously, there is NO need for this hyperbole bs. But that's just my view, each to their own. But remember, people are entitled to their opinions too, and that includes ones that you or I don't agree with.

Does South Africa not have a good women's team? I don't follow it as much as mens outside the 6N but haven't seen any players mentioned
They aren't great, currently ranked 13th, but have potential if they get some proper investment and game time. Unsurprisingly they have some powerful forwards, Aseza Hele is definitely one to keep an eye on.

Aki is a 12 though. This selection feels forced. Aki was likely the best player at RWC23, but he is not a 13.

I feel like northern hemisphere teams get more rugby in a world cup year with 6 nations at start.

I agree it's competitive enough as it is without including women, I think I'd pick up more on the women's game from their own 15, Aki played one game at 13 this year and it was our worst performance of the year

I think male and female lists needs to be seperate. They will never be able to compete with or against each other so its almost imposible to compare.
That's only really necessary if you're coming up with a team of the absolute best players on the planet, which is not what these videos are about.
It's not a comparison. Just like Raffaele Storti could have been in the back 3 of the year despite being not nearly as good. It's just the players who have played the best

I understand that the criteria for the list is players who are exciting and have made an impact in the games in which they play, and by that metric it's quite fine to put women in the mix...but to call Vernier the best centre of either sex is patently ridiculous. If she played against men's elite teams, she'd probably be killed, let alone score any tries or successfully tackle anyone, in fact if she played against top tier schoolboys she'd be made to look a fool. She is simply, and objectively, not the best centre in the game....I also understand that it's Squidge's channel and he can do what he likes...but it is a bit silly.
