      Composted chicken manure sells for about $9/20#. I sell out all I can bag to local gardeners for $10/50#. Once the "coop/poop" is cleaned out, I start in with the goat stalls. I could feed our livestock for a month or so just by cleaning out their pens. The rest of the year is on me.

    On the 11th we had a fire go out of control on our property. Burning down our shed with important things in it, our chicken coop, a camper, a trailer and damaging the 75/100ft pine tree. and our neighbors jumped in immediately, taking all our kids to their home so we knew they were safe. Amen.
      Each time we've moved, I've always hoped to find a neighbor - who becomes a friend - who then becomes family. While I've had some lovely neighbors, it was more a neighborly relationship. When we moved here, I was certain that *this* was the time. My husband would laugh and tell me I was being too aggressive... as I would start chatting up everyone who walked by and even on Halloween as we went house to house. I'd spew out a quick neighbor/friend seeking personal ad, "Hi my name is Heather - we live in that house on the corner - I like being a mom, gardening, music ... long walks on the beach... blah blah blah." 🥴🤣 It was very funny looking back.
      This neighborhood didn't bear the friendship fruit, either... BUT... I did manage to find the treasure I had been seeking for so long - in a Mamma from our Homeschool co-op. (Thank Goodness 😅) Now, her family is like family to us. We dream about buying property together, to farm. It's been absolutely beautiful.
      You are soooo right, it's about finding our community where we are now. Leaning into eachother as we each make our way towards greater goals. What a source of divine gratitude. ✨️🥰
      I loooove that you and I are so close in distance and interests. You are a treasure to us all. It's been amazing watching your channel grow.
      Annnnd if ever fate decides we should meet - I may or may not give you my friend pick up lines. 😉😅❤️ Hope y'all are having a wonderful weekend! We're doing silly amounts of preserving up here. (You know those days where you realize "I think I bit off too much and now will be up til the weee hours of the night to finish"?... 🙋🏻‍♀️).

    Cassandra, could you do a live video on " canning how to's" or cleaning meats, grown fruits and veggies? Also cleaning bagged fruits and veggies. Sometimes buying produce has holes in it, smells like chemicals...yeah....
    Highly respect what you are doing. Thxs Luke 1:37

    You need to add some lemon juice to your fruit to keep botulism away when canning- You can google it or look at ball book for preserving- unless you are keeping them in the fridge

    May God bless you and your family, your neighbors, and especially Monica and her growing family. Community is where it's at, in the grand scheme of things.

      You said it best, its not easy to find at all. The ability to have folks that can come to your door cannot be understated. No matter where you live, being in a community that looks out other folks has been a precious experience. Happy first day of spring, my friend!

    Wow! Your store prices are wayyyyyyyyy cheaper than in Canada.
    Its no wonder you can buy a bunch of frozen stuff and can it. I just bought frozen mixed vegies yesterday on sale for $7.98. Frozen Brussel sprouts on sale was $3.98. And prices are still going to keep rising. 😞
    As for froz fruit, its more expensive. Thats why i have to grow and preserve my own fruit on my homestead. Thanks for sharing 😊👩🏻‍🌾

      Aww, thanks friend. I've truly had a heavy heart these last few weeks. The other neighbors in the community have expressed the SAME thing and we'll all be poking out heads out when the house hits the market and folks start touring. It has been a blessing to have folks that you know genuinely care about you and, even though you never want that to end, I am so happy that their growing family has more space and that we were able to live life alongside them for as long as we did. Happy first day of spring!

    • @BecomingaFarmGirl
      @BecomingaFarmGirl  2 місяці тому

      Oh sweet friend, my heart it with you. It's a heavy sadness to carry because you've become accustomed to the nearly effortless ease/access. I rarely ever CALL Monica, I just walk right over because their door is always open or the kids are out back. Of course you and your babysitter/friend will always be friends, but it does change the rhythm and that's what I'm missing. It's so odd to for me to carry both of these emotions---with 3 boys I am so happy (and agree) that having a house with a large front and back yard that isn't off of a busy main road like our development is makes sense, but on the other hand, are you ever really ready to say "good-bye"- Standing on the other side now that they've moved, I'm just so appreciative that we had the time together that we did. Just as the Lord brought both of our sweet friends into our lives, he'll continue to connect our paths with others--I'm believing that for the both of us!

      Thank you sweet friend! My heart has been so heavy in a way that surprised even me. I've used the term 'neighbor' and 'friend' for Monica and Kevin for so long, but truly, they became family. We constantly "pitt stop" at the others house and truly have aspects of communal living (since I don't have grass, Thor plays in their back yard, they don't have a front porch so they sit in ours and the boys play under our front yard shade tree) and sooo much more. While our cadence will be different, I'm just focusing on the fact that I had a chance to do life with them so closely for so many years. Thank you for understanding!!
