I "playoff rules", or lack there of, allows teams to do that. Can’t get away with it in the 82-game schedule, but you can the further you go in the playoffs.

Selke trophy...awarded to the best forward who excels in the defensive aspects of the game...Barkov like Crosby Bergeron and Datsyuk played a responsible game and influenced on the power play on the penalty kill and five on five.....hockey is about more than just points! That's something sports writers fail to realize. You have to sell out to win it all McDavid like Crosby needs to change his game a bit.

As a Cats fan, did I want to see it go to Bob or Barkov? Of course I did! However, the more time I have to think about it, the more I recognize that McDavid truly did deserve it the moment he dragged Edmonton back in the final series.
The Conn Smythe is a playoff MVP trophy--not a Finals MVP trophy--and when your overall playoff performance is being compared to Gretsky, of course you deserve that recognition.
Shannon had good points though. Bobrovsky stood on his head when he needed to, the entire playoff run.

Barkov was outstanding shutting down mcdavid and others. Bobrovsky outstanding when on his game. Not to mention mcdavid had an arguably easier path. Florida went through three elite goalies. Lots to discuss but will evidently not matter. Go Cats Go !!! So happy for them hoisting the cup.

I really hope hockey fans were made after this series. Hockey is so underrated in the stars.
I was always a casual hockey fan, basically just watched the playoffs. But I'd say I've been inspired to follow the game more closely now. Decided to choose the Panthers as my favorite team after they beat Boston last year, the fact that I've been a big Miami Heat fan since 2007 definitely influenced that decision

At least they’re trying to talk puck. I respect that. This game is the most complete sport: it’s fast, it’s great TV (only three commercial breaks per period), it has storylines and real emotion. Any sport where the players can chirp the officials and the OFFICIALS CHIRP BACK should appeal to anyone.
More people should experience this incredible sport.
I'd always followed the sport casually, basically just tuned in for the playoffs every year because it was interesting and entertaining. But I think I want to follow it more closely now going forward

The last three years with the Kraken, I’ve consumed more hockey - and not just Kraken hockey - than ever. I LOVE this sport and the fans are by and large very accommodating of new fans.

Everyones argument for mcdavid winning the conn smythe is him breaking Gretzkys assist record and getting close to his playoff and SCF points record. But no one mentions that in those 1988 playoffs the oilers played only 19 games compared to 25 in 2024, and only 5 finals games for those 13 points. Gretzky was on another level. Bob or Barky deserved this trophy.
In 1988 Gretzky's time NHL 8 goals per game! Today only 6 goals per game NHL! McDavid his assists record much better than Gretzky! If Auston Matthews had played In 1982 he would had scored over 100 goals easily beating Gretzky's 92 goal record easily! Ovechkin ERA only 5,3-6 goals per game NHL! If Ovechkin had played high scoring 1980s he would had scored over 1200 goals easily! And Edmonton Oilers 1980s much better team than Toronto Maple Leafs or Edmonton Oilers 2024!

Panthers had the home-ice advantage. In most of the line changes they played Barkov against McJesus. Barkov is not that flashy but playing against him is like swimming in a winter jacket.

Why Barkov beat McDavid..... it's like how Crosby won his cups....he tweeked his game to be more two way oriented. Being fast and having skill can only go so far. Remember in 2009 Evgeni Malkin won the Conn Smythe but the team as a whole sold out after the 2008 loss Geno was the offensive driving seat but the team was two way skilled players... Edmonton faced the Kings... then a third string goalie in Vancouver, then a worn down Dallas team....Florida had to run the gauntlet....a team they historically always lose to in Tampa, then a favorite in the Bruins with an amazing goaltender, then the president trophy winning Rangers...P.K. said it best...its just not Connor's time yet. He'll learn from this like Wayne and Sid did

I think both Bobrovsky and Barkov were robbed of the Conn Smythe, both of them were deserving of it and I wouldn't have been made with either. However, it is not fair that the loser gets the Conn Smythe. Connor McDavid had a fantastic run, all time great playoffs, but he didn't earn the award and he knew it; that's why he didn't come out to accept it. Even he knew it was robbery.
Yeah, obviously McDavid had an incredible playoff and got the oilers back in the series, but he got shut down when it mattered most and should have only gotten it if the oilers won. It honestly feels like the nhl giving him a consolation prize if anything. Should have been Barkov or Bobrovsky.

Honestly I disagree with them and he definitely is clueless a bit but SOME OF what they said is true. McDavid did need to be better and even more so Draisaitl in game 7 when it mattered most. Dude had zero goals in the series. Fanned on a one timer that very well could’ve gone in if he got all of it in the game last night. They’re right that they needed to be better . Janmark was , in my opinion, one of their best players last night. That’s a problem considering he’s a 3rd or 4th line player . But yea even though they’re clueless having hockey talked about on these kind of shows is good for the sport. It helps get it to eyes of people that don’t normally watch. We should WANT the sport to grow as hockey fans. I’m glad they have PK on cause atleast he knows what the hell hes talking about

I think Connor deserved the Conn Smythe but Bobby deserved it more. I am a Panthers fan so I could be biased but Bob was elite in every game in the playoffs except for a few in the final... but Connor was silent in the same amount of games. I don't care too much though. After all, we have the Cup.

Aleksandr Barkov proved in game 6 & 7 that he's the best player in the world completely shutting down Connor McDavid and making him disappear in the most important moments of the series. That's why he's a Champion and McDavid is ringless wonder.
He shouldn't have won the Conn Symthe, He played the Kings & Canucks with a 3rd string goalie. He's a stat padder, I guarantee you he wouldn't have had 30 points in the playoffs if he had to deal with what the Panthers had to in rounds 1-3. Andrei Vasilevskiy, Jeremy Swayman & Igor Shesterkin is what the Panthers had to deal with just to get to the cup. McDavid only saw 1 elite goalie the entire playoffs and that was Bobrosvsky and he was held goaless in 4 of the 7 games.
He's an otherwordly talent, but he's the most overrated player in the sport until he wins the Stanley Cup!

Bob got a lot of flak for game 4, 5, 6 put came through in stunning fashion where it really matters - game 7; as a great goalie should, shutting out all of Edmonton's chances except for a 1 pass breakaway goal.
Here’s my question, what would Bob have to do to match McDavid’s achievement? There’s an emphasis on offensive stats and achievements, but defensive efforts are always looked at secondary because they’re harder to quantify, unless you’re a goalie. So what stat would he need to achieve to match McDavid’s figures?
If McDavid didn't have those numbers in Game 4 and 5, are we still talking about the Conn Smythe?

I get PK's point about how difficult it is to win the Stanley Cup. But at the end of the day, all everyone will remember is how "McJesus" had zero points when it mattered. Crosby won his first cup because of Max Talbot, he was out for a majority of Game 7 after he got injured and had little to no impact. Hockey is a team sport.
I liked that point: in the decisive game Bob stood on his head, whereas McDavid did not deliver, point blank. Psychologically, Bobrovsky was better than McDavid. Sergey had the winner's mindset while Connor didn't.

It’s funny cause these guys don’t really know what they’re talking about (though they’re right McDavid and Draisaitl needed to be better in game 7) but I’m ultimately glad they’re talking about hockey on these kinds of shows cause it helps grow the sport . We should want the sport to grow as hockey fans. It’s the greatest sport that humans ever came up with and anyone who starts paying attention to it eventually comes to that conclusion . There’s just nothing better. And I love all sports but hockey is next level. We should want it to grow and that’s what being talked about on these shows does
