A big thanks to the awesome crew at the Gravity Discovery Centre in Gingin for letting us use their 45m leaning tower for our own experiments. If you wanna head out there and check it out, it's not far from Perth where we live: gravitycentre.c...

What's the 44 Club you may ask? Well it all started in the outro of this video • HOW TO BOTTLE FLIP (ON... where we wondered if anyone was still watching the video at that point, and to comment 44 (Scott's fave number) if they were. Brett then said 44 Club get on board and the rest is history. The 44Club is the official How Ridiculous fan club made up of people who love our videos and watch them right to the very end. We've even got 44 Club merch now! So yeh, that's the story. Pretty random but good fun at the same time.

8:58 Let’s use a kinematic equation to see if the bowling ball is actually dropped from 45 meters. Since bowling balls are dense, air resistance doesn’t really matter here. S=Vot+1/2 at² S=displacement. Vo=initial velocity=0. t=time=2.98 secs. Vot cancels since Vo=0. S=1/2 (-9.8)(2.98)². S=-43.51 meters. So assuming no air resistance, it’s about 43.51 meters high. But because of air resistance it’s probably exactly 43 meters. You did a good job measuring the height of that thing.

Oops, you have a bot
Corn starch is primarily used as a thickening agent in the kitchen. You use it to thicken sauces / soups without giving them a floury taste.
GravitySloth thank you good to know
GravitySloth you fukn nerd (jealous)
GravitySloth it’s also used in gravy
I never knew why people just didn’t use flour. Now I know!
My mother used to make corn starch pudding. Also, you can use cornstarch as a breading/coating on meat. And corn starch is used a thickener as opposed to flour because cornstarch has less of a tendency to leave you lovely little clumps of undisolved/incoprated thicker in your suaces and gravies.
The reason oobleck behaves like it does is because when you slowly go down, the molecules of the starch are less compact and it makes it less dense, but when you go on it hard, the molecules come together get forced into one area, which is why it behaves like a solid
"Nanomachines, son! They harden in response to physical trauma!"
@@wrenchisnotanerd You can’t hurt me Jack!
Well that doesn't sound very Newtonian to me!
Why not drop oobleck onto a trampoline i wanna know of itll pour like liquid but then when it hits that tramp will it solidify? Idk sounds ridiculous though.
You may be on to something
Jacob Grotton the clean up for that tho
Jacob Grotton I think that they should I that

Drop Oobleck on Oobleck! Will the falling Oobleck shatter completely on contact? Will it stick and then melt into the Oobleck pool? How will the Oobleck look while falling through the air? Will dropping different sized amounts of Oobleck change the results? :O And best of all, you can color the different Ooblecks different colors to really show off the collision, and maybe make some cool looking results :)
J.G Czaricit calm down. They had NO way to know that. So just shut up
Finn Burdine they did. It’s called google. Legit, just google oobleck, corn starch, or non Newtonian substance. It’s not hard.
J.G Czaricit true. But imagine what it would look like falling through the air. Probably wouldn't even fall into the pool

Agree. Also shoulda put pool closer to tower so they could just drop stuff straight down....
Reno, but if they did that then it wouldn't be straight down from the top...
the top outcropping is further out
How bout just more bowling balls

Drop thor's hammer into oobleck from the dam
OMG GREAT IDEA LIKE NO JOKE
They can't. They need the winch and rope to drop Thor's hammer. They only have that on the tower, not the dam.
True but they can extend a tow truck winch which they can put at the top of the dam
How heavy is there Thor’s hammer?
@@klucas3765 Over 100kg. There's no way they'd be able to get it off the dam.

Mix the glue and 1 /2 cup of water together. Add the food coloring. Set aside.
In a measuring glass, dissolve 1/2 teaspoon Borax with 1 / 4 cup of warm water. Stir until it's completely dissolved.
Add the borax water to the glue mixture and mix well, until the Gak forms a blob around your spoon.

Could you do this again but a bigger pool and try and run on it?
They could sink and die (optimism)
The pool would not be big going down
Eric Fairchild they would suffocate if it was too deep
I know this is a really old comment but they already did that on MythBusters. If you're fast enough you will be able to walk across the top
10 months late, but this would not be worth it.
Not only would it cost A LOT, considering that small of a pool they did, and they needed 150kg of cornstarch, I reckon that it would require at least a couple megagrams(kinda like how computer storage works, bytes, kilobytes, megabytes, etc), and also, if they happen to sink in, it would be nearly IMPOSSIBLE to get out, causing them to either: A) Sink at die from all the pressure, or B) Cause them to suffocate
Only youtubers can make a 10 minute vide about an event that takes 10 seconds
Hauntercry not really, the set up could of easily been couple of hours
Tommy Nguyen it's about the video. Not the setup
Hauntercry honestly though
My girlfriend loves that I've recently have become a UA-camr.

Love the whistling noise of a bowling ball in free fall :)
Chuck some oobleck onto a trampoline, see if it splats into pieces like a liquid or just hits and bounces like a solid
No just drop the Oobleck on the ground. Drop the pool from the top strait to the ground!
Mom: What are you watching
Me: Just a bowling ball being dropped from 45 meter to oobleck
I watch at work. So glad I don't have to explain it lol
Hey guys, it might be easier if you made (Or bought) a pulley system to hoist things to the top of the tower
You can get a Mason's pulley for around $80 with one a ten-year-old could lift a hundred pounds of concrete 10 stories
This is literally the stuff we made as children with the corn starch and water!!! It's so satisfying!
Imagine them dropping oobleck from the tower. Would it behave as a liquid when dropped, & act as a solid when it hits the ground?
it will only behave as a liquid
@@kailashbhandari6139 it behaves as a solid when fast, liquid when slow
it's a liguid when it fall and when it hit the ground it's solid
That seems correct
because of the force of the air when dropped it would catch fire because why the *hell* not
Drop watermelons next, I wonder if those break or actually get their impact absorbed by the oobleck.
marcopolo208
It breaks, no doubt
Yall are so supportive of each other and I love it love the videos
Any way y’all could fill an exercise ball up with oobleck and then drop that from the tower?

Call me stupid, but why didn't he take more than one ball up to save going up and down to retrieve the ball?
Mayhaps they didn't want to buy greater than 1 ball
wait, nvm
Why not bring a rope and use it to retrieve the ball?
They’re bloody heavy
cant afford more than one
You guys should build a simple pulley system to bring the objects back up
Kai Nebert stupidest idea ever a ‘simple’ 45m pull system
Caolan Oneill block and tackle from heatleys, bag of rope from bunnings. Sorted.
Caolan Oneill I don't think you understand how simple a pulley system is.
Biscuits, cakes, breads, gravy, used to thicken mixs...and put dynamite in the ooblek
If you throw the ooblek from the top onto a trampoline will it act as a solid or will it be strung through the holes like spaghetti?
Blue Yeti I think it would bounce at first, and then start going through the holes
Blue Yeti It acts like a fluid when it falls. It would just act as a liquid like when you pour water from a high distance
SPAGHET!

Yeah, I know too. But you know, it will be almost like the bowling balls again, except for the spiky ends and "corners" of the anvil. ;-)

Noah Alban good idea
Kruz G I said it first
you need a board under the pool all the energy from the ball is being released into the sand - Still a great video :)
Adam Adamson wew smartest comment of The vid
most of the energy is spent deforming the oobleck
Doesn't really matter. The oobleck by itself is able to absorb all of the shock.
It does absorb all of the shock but then it passes the energy through to the sand rather than back up through the oobleck and back into the bowling ball
Been waiting for a bowling ball to fall on top of one of them

Oobleck vs trampoline. Could make for some interesting stuff, as it may be liquid while falling and solid on impact.
Or drop the trampoline on the oobleck. Hahahaha…
I never realized the whistling noise when things fell wasn't just in the cartoons
Not everything whistles. The bowling ball only does because of the finger holes. It's the same effect as when you blow into the top of a glass bottle.

Here's a thought (old video, I know, but might be worth a revisit with the phantom camera) - dye the pool oobleck pink and then a water balloon filled with blue oobleck gets dropped on it. (Fill the water balloon like they do with the balloons with toys and flowers in them via a vaccuum chamber). The water balloon won't likely survive, being thin plastic, but the resulting explosion and mixture might be amazing.
I can tell you how much corn starch you put in:
A lot.

Yeeeess
Yesss
Yes I agree
Absolutely genius
I already know what will happen if you run on it
Cornstarch has replaced extract of marshmallow root in "marshmallows', as a congealing agent. But, the confection is still called marshmallow. Many of the younger generations think nothing of the name to where they don't know that marshmallow is a plant related to hibiscus and rose of sharon.
Cornstarch thickens stocks, sauces, soups..anything really..but also helps things not stick. Shredded cheese in a bag is often coated in it for that reason. 👍😊
Breeze H and you can use it for diaper rashes
wtf what happened to your face
Amber Freeman very true!
100 knifes vs OOBLECK
Corn starch is used to thicken foods like curry and stir fry 😊
And custard
And gravy
And soup
Yeah and a lot more things haha x
although it doesn't seem to be very effective
The whistle that thing gave when it fell was awesome!
This is the most Australian video I have ever seen

Imagine they start eating Bunnings snags and drinking choccy milk
The more force you hit with oobleck, the harder it is to bypass it. That's why the bowling ball didn't sink. For people who *still* don't understand, let's say there's you, and a humongous crowd, if you sprint in the crowd, the more likely it is for you to stop. If you went slow, you could easily bybass it (same with oobleck, if you're slow, then you'll sink)
9:09 Is that the bowling ball whilstling as it falls?! Cool!
Yes, the air is probably whistling through the finger holes
Sally Brack ikr

Riiiight!?!
Oobleck race! See who can run across it faster using flippers, boots and flip flops. Rock paper decides!
Why don't you guys ever use a rope or pulley system to get the objects back up instead of running down every time ?
I was wondering that myself, but I'm new to the channel, so if they've explained why before, I haven't been around to see it.
Reed Markowitz Maybe exercise?
EnderGeek they talk about it with loathing
Reed Markowitz Sorry, I was just joking. I wasn't being serious. Sarcasm is hard to convey in writing.
They use it for the giant dart
Why do you guys not make a pulley system at the top of the tower so you do not have to walk up every time you miss and instead just put whatever y'all are trying to get to the top in a box and lift it up by the pulley
Ramsey Soileau it’s not their tower
Ramsey Soileau They do have a pulley system
just not at every level
To get exercise
Ramsey Soileau and who’s gonna tip the box when it gets to the top????
From what I could see you used 4 bags with 25kg of it, so you used 100kg of cornstarch which is 220.46 pounds. Otherwise, another possibility with some feedback, you used 6 bags of it which is 150kg in total balanced out to 330.69 pounds.
They used five bags count from the background bags they didn't show one of the bags they put in
