What's the 44 Club you may ask? Well it all started in the outro of this video • HOW TO BOTTLE FLIP (ON... where we wondered if anyone was still watching the video at that point, and to comment 44 (Scott's fave number) if they were. Brett then said 44 Club get on board and the rest is history. The 44Club is the official How Ridiculous fan club made up of people who love our videos and watch them right to the very end. We've even got 44 Club merch now! So yeh, that's the story. Pretty random but good fun at the same time.

The Bullet proof glass was upside down. They “top” layer is supposed to be on the inside of the room or vehicle and the “bottom” is supposed to shatter and take the impacts from the bullet, it breaks up into glass powder to catch the bullet and the “top” layer remains smooth to the touch to keep glass shards from hitting what the glass protects, but to sum it all up, in this test they had the glass upside down,
Yep, I was just about to mention that.
Actually u are not who the fuck cares if they have it the wrong way the experiment was to see if it will go through not wether a bowling ball thrown from 35 metres on to bullet proof glass will it save someone.
Regardless what side was up the result would of been the same minus maybe the warping
Were Australian we do everything upside down
Need a re- do with the glass turned over :)
Daniel Potts why you have to be mad it’s only a point why you have to be mad
The bulletproof glass is placed upside down boys...
The top layer isn't shattering because its the polycarbonate laminate layer, which is not the impact surface; the glass catches the impact and shatters as it absorbs the energy, and the polycarbonate is supposed to catch the fragments and keep the glass intact.
Try putting the glass towards the 'threat' next time! Probably will work much better. Cheers!
The glass layers are also meant to shred the bullet into smaller fragments, causing it not to penetrate the polycarbonate layer, that is also the same way body armor works, first there is layer of a extremely hard and brittle material, sometimes ceramic, and then a softer steel plate that won't shatter.
hey smarty pants stop being scientific
It's the right way around if you were to use it in a real application.

What about Flaming Anvil
the top layer of that bulletproof glass is not glass, its polycarbonate
also the polycarbonate layer is supposed to be on the bottom

Lads... I think that you put the bulletproof glass in upside down
That’s what happens when you live Australia, everything is upside down
Yep
i think so too. their "top" layer isn't actually glass. thats why it wasn't shattering
Yep. Saw it when they lifted it up.
Before I saw this comment I did actually have the same thought that they'd got the glass the wrong way around as you wouldn't want to be sitting with shards of glass coming towards you if you was the person sitting behind it. Also when you look at the size of a bullet point that goes into the glass composite the layer that they had uppermost would be rated by the company to help stop the round after being slowed down to a manageable velocity, a bit like when you see the systems they installed on some of the old air craft carrier's
It’s super weird to see kangaroos running around like deer do here in the Southeast US 😂😂
What? Are you high or sum??
Yeah we always see deer here in tx

The top level is purposely like a hard plexiglass/plastic. Your tests had it set up upside down. Usually the bullet strikes what you guys had on the bottom and the bendable back layer would absorb the bullets force and it could bend backwards to catch the bullet
What's pretty cool is you can shoot out but they cant shoot in
yes you're correct, plexi on the opposite side of the impact
Jacob Felsing finally! Someone else who has a comprehensive understanding of how bp glass works!
JudgieThePirate you would probably need to use a rifle round and to shoot a couple of times through to create a big enough hole so the round doesn’t fragment.
Jeremy Rieger depends what it’s rated I’d say the glass in the vid is definitely 9mm or 5.56 tbh it could also only be Pistol seing as rifle rated is extremely expensive
Top layer is a flexible plastic like material so it doesn't crack easily. The cracks from the glass layers are from the shock being transferred through the top layer. That, and I think the glass panel was upside down. I could be wrong.
Same as our windows on our truck in Iraq, when we had to change them out, smooth side out, rubber side in. The smooth textured side (glass) is the strike face of the ballistic windows, the rubbery textured side was not designed to take the hit like earlier mentioned, it was designed to catch the glass fragments to prevent injury to personnel from the fragmentation of the glass.
This is what I came to the comment section to look for, I didn't think that top layer was glass but I couldn't be sure. On a side note, thank you for your service Travis. God bless.
Thank you for your support. Also we actually tested a piece when we were downrange we took two panes of the glass and shot it with an M4 and then with an M240B one facing the correct way one facing the wrong way and when we shut the one that was backwards rounds went through, ones with the strike face towards us stopped the rounds from both weapon systems

The reason the top layer didn't break is simple it is Plastic! Bullet proof glass is made up of several layers of Poly Carbonate sheets and Glass. The top and bottom sheet should be PC and the sheets in between alternate between Glass and PC.
The reason it works is because it spreads out the force of an impact across the whole surface rather than letting it punch straight through. Hope this helps!
Correct you are
Shouldn’t the plastic be on the side you want to protect? This way you eat a face full of glass. Normally the glass should break up the bullet and the plastic catches the shards and holds everything together
Wow facts
Spartan Elite43 not quite. There are 5 layers. 4 of them are hardened glass. The final layer is thick polycarbonate. The glass works by breaking up the bullet and slowing it down to mitigate the force from the impact of the bullet. The layer of polycarbonate is that last layer. It catches the pieces of the broken up bullet.
The reason why there was glass falling down was because they had the window upside down. The strike face is supposed to be the glass side, not the polycarbonate side.
I love watching you guys drop things on bulletproof glass. It’s fascinating and hilarious at the same time
I was laughing 😂 so much when they were on the road and they saw a kangaroo 🦘 and they were like “ aaaaayyyy ayyy ayyyyy! I was laughing so hard!
The glass was backwards, thats because the glass is supposed to break the bullet into fragments, and the "top layer" is plastic so it will catch those fragments.
Edit: holy fuck 371 likes thats a shitton
ariel Fernandez you are definitely right, please, hopefully next time they get it right!!
The plastic keeps glass from flying at the people being protected by it

This popping up in my feed again reminded me of an idea.
Drop a bowling ball right after dropping an atlas stone onto a trampoline and trying to get a mid air collision.
I can slightly explain the breaking of the bottom layers first.
Glass is fairly brittle.
The bottom bends more than the top slightly.
More of a bend=more force absorbed
More force=more bending
More bending=more fracturing
The lower you go the more a material needs to bend to not shift along such layers.
Bulletproof glass can bend more due to being able to absorb more energy and force without breaking, so hope this explains your question.

The top layer is lexan/polycarbonate. Get another piece of bullet resistant glass and try it again with the lexan/polycarbonate side on the bottom. Also you can get just straight up bullet proof sheets of lexan/polycarbonate. You should try some of that stuff too.
nothing to do with that ,its transfer of energy ,same as them office toy balls u swing ,the energy is direct to the last ball when it hits
girlsdrinkfeck except bullet proof glass is directional and you should have the flexible layer opposite of impact
You guys put the glass on the table upside down.
The first layer is supposed to break and stop the bullet. The back layer is supposed to stay protected so you don’t get glass in your face when you get shot by a bullet.
So they put the glass on upside down/backwards.
Marvin drottryd
Has nothing to do with it actually. It’s just physics man.
The top layer is perspex (PLASTIC) so it won't crack it will just bend

U have IG we can talk??
Giant dart. Bulletproof glass. Do it.
On a side note, the pane was backwards. The way you had it was inside up. The top layer was a spall plate that, after a bullet inevitably broke through several layers, would catch all the sharp bits from peppering anyone behind the glass. All that glass power would be contained inside of the glass or spilled outside the structure or vehicle.
Yaaaassss
Is the spall plate polycarb?
Spot on, Sir.

They didn't realize that the bullet proof glass is meant to have the top layer (in the video), which is plastic, on the inside, protecting the person, not on the outside. The glass basically is supposed to absorb a lot of the shock and the top plastic layer is meant to catch anything that may have gotten through the glass and reinforce it.

yo - business idea - take a bunch of those glass panes, crack one of the middle layers, not the top or bottom, call it art.
9:01 "I don't understand science, or anything."
The top layer isn't glass. It's a polymer. It's intended to be the inside layer. That way shards of glass aren't ejected at someone on the opposite side of the impact.

Finally, important stuff on UA-cam! Very Important stuff.
The science behind that one is actually really cool.
Guys, the “top layer” is not supposed to make direct contact with the bullet bowling ball). That layer is designed to catch bullet fragments while the glass breaks it down. The “top layer” is made from some kind of plastic brw
Toughened polymer perspex
What you are calling the top is made of a layer of Acrylic or Plexiglass not glass, and it is upside down so that if it gets broken glass shards are not shot out towards someone if someone tried to break it.
Yes. They had the glass wrong way around. But the acrylic is there to catch the bullet. First the bullet is broken apart by the tough but fragile glass. Once it is in small pieces, the acrylic slows down the pieces and while it does bend (bulges?) when the bullets hit it, its high tensile strength and some elasticity stops the bullets. It is sort of like the trampoline. Nothing was able to get through that either (the springs eventually gave up but not the cloth), because it gave way slowly instead of absorbing all the energy at once.
I was really confused. Thank you!
Glad I wasn't the only one thinking this
^^^^^^ exactly. The bottom layers are designed to be on the outside (top). This way energy is dissipated outwards and occupants on the other side aren’t shredded by shards of glass.
Polycarbonate usually
this may or may not have been explained already so if it was then cool but the reason why the top did not break is simple if you look at it and how it warped. Reason is that its made from a more flexible form of plexiglass. The glass was installed upside down here but mainly when something hits the glass the first 4 layers of actual glass act as a kinetic energy break for the object and the 5th layer is meant to protect people on the inside or behind the glass from the glass exploding inward towards them while also providing additional kinetic energy absorbing. Also each layer of glass also has a clear film that is built into it so that it to helps to resist the glass from exploding out. This clear film is also installed in the windshields of vehicles. that is why in accidents or if a rock were to fly up and hit it the windshield cracks instead of shattering.
If you loosely taped a bouncy ball to the top of the bowling ball it would actually bounce back up higher than the man that dropped it.
Who else just skipped to the part were they dropped the bowling ball
Me

The polycarbonate layer is supposed to be on the inside, in this case on the bottom and not the top. The glass layers have polyvinylbuthyral films between them, thats why they stay strong as hell even after cracking.
There, now you know.

They probably just laid the glass upside down on the table

As a R&D engineer for a major glass manufacturer, I can tell you you're using the laminate the wrong way round. The top layer as you refer to it is not glass at all but typically a polycarbonate designed to keep the unit intact but more importantly catch 'spalling' of bullet fragments
Yeah I was confused for a minute, because a person on the other side of the glass could still get injured from shards of glass
