I daily a 1992 W124 250D myself. Been in my family since 2004. Learned how to drive in it and grew up with it, passed down from my grandpa, to my dad, and in 2020 I eventually took over it. It literally never dies. The biggest issue I have with it is the rust - Norwegian roads are salted like no tomorrow. I'm doing my best to take care of it though, and one day pass it down to my own children.
I've had six W124's years ago. Amazing cars that never ever let me down. The one in best shape was a -90 200D with 350 000km on it. It was beautiful. The most "experienced" one was an -87 250D with almost 900 000km. The chassis rusted away on that one.
This, is a thing of beauty. One of the iconic cars that MB ever made. This needs to be re-made and redone and would be an amazing restoration project - to being this beauty alive in its pristine glory. These cars were made for a lifetime, literally and would last for 50 years minimum. Its engine sounds so pure and majestic, music to the ears. To drive this classic, would be a honour in itself.. W124's were the best sedan cars ever built.
In addition to durability, the approach to building a vehicle like a machine that lasts forever and the wear parts are easy to replace, the W124 is simply beautiful.
Tbh I don't think it would be a good base for a restoration. It all depends on how the chassis look like. For a restoration project it probably would be better to buy more structurally sound W124. But still it's a great car!
There is an acquaintance who brought a 300D to Brazil, but he brought it in the 90's driving from the USA to Chile and then passing through Argentina and arriving in Brazil (Rio de Janeiro). He still has the car to this day.
This is basically the sound of my childhood. My father had an '85 190 D which he sold almost 30 years ago. I loved that car so much that I bought an '85 190 D myself. ;)
I bought 1988 200D, done 197000km. It's like new. I'll keep it rest of my life. I bought it from Berlin and drive it to Finland. Only one 2 owners car. First 1 year owner. It's legendary car w124.
2:55 - 2:58 The inferior part of a car body, specially the two sides, are generally the more exposed areas to rust, and a restoration work usually start there... This car already would be in surprisingly good state if it was a daily use car, with normal cares. But a car what passed 16 years abandoned and exposed to the elements like this one? It´s practically miraculous. And talk much about the quality of the MB products. That make this a solid candidate to someone wanting make a restoration work with severely limited budget.
really awsome restoration work!124 is a super car for me.In my country(Cuba) they were working as a taxi after imported second hand from Europe,Very good car.I would own one of them.
Hi I see you have several W124 models in your yard. I own a 1987 260E manual which I am currently restoring. These are great cars to ride very solid. Like your videos on the w124 model. Keep it up. Big up from Mauritius.
after 16 years, it starts and runs better than 30 years ago. We had a neighbour with a similar car, 30 years ago. When left his home early in the morning, I never needed an alarm clock.
Even gas ones are hard to find. Here in Quebec, I found only two gas, none in running condition, and one (frying oil converted) diesel, which had A pillars rust perforated (it's a safety issue for me). I finally had to buy a 1988 E30, but I'm quite happy with it.
Neben der Haltbarkeit, dem Ansatz ein Fahrzeug wie eine Maschine zu bauen die ewig hält und die Verschleißteile einfach zu tauschen sind, der W124 ist schlichtweg Formschön.
I also climbed a mountain with it 18 years ago "Muntele Găina 1467m", when I drop down from the mountain one of the brake pads, broke but besides that all was good these cars are legitim the best in the Mercedes series
In addition to durability, the approach to building a vehicle like a machine that lasts forever and the wear parts are easy to replace, the W124 is simply beautiful.

A car from '88, dormant since '04, and just now back on the road. Quite amazing!

i dont think so. It seems like the rust has gotten to it quite badly. Its not dead though, so this would be a pretty cool ratty merc
I’d love to see it being restored! Thanks for sharing! - Ralph
The simplicity this car has means that with a bit of will anyone could make it last a whole life.
There is an acquaintance who brought a 300D to Brazil, but he brought it in the 90's driving from the USA to Chile and then passing through Argentina and arriving in Brazil (Rio de Janeiro). He still has the car to this day.
Still looks nice even in that condition.
I don’t know how, and I don’t know why, but I fount your channel ages ago and for some reason love a good old diesel cold start video 😂
I admire your skills in bringing these cars back to life...
Cool . Old Benz are never dying. This makes me missing my 1986 230TE... Nice running car.
Wow, that model is so silent inside. Even the chirping belt was barely audible. Liked your video.
Thanks for yours enthusiasm and activity. we pay our respects to you from Kingisepp and Saint-P!
That dieselsound is my childhood 😍♥️
Wow, reviving abandoned cars, great job. Thanks for the video.
At 8:05 I love how the bumper falls partially off when he was trying out the clutch and the engine hesitates.
Its old its normal 😄 like Volkswagen Das auto
