Layne and Aaron have two voices. They are different people. I love both versions and in my opinion Aaron Lewis is one of the greatest musicians of all time because he can play/sing ANYTHING and it sounds damn good..
+Guitarlover44 You, my friend, have a distinct grasp of the obvious....(lets see....2 different voices.....2 different people...hmmmm). And.....rain is wet, and tight shoes hurt. NOW, as for your assertion about Mr. Lewis being the "best musician of all time".....(hough your opinion), is completely without merit or any basis in musical, or any other, reality. A side-note.....if you watch his live performances, and you have any kind of musical ear, you will hear his constant and consistent tendency to sing "sharp" (just above the correct note). No H8, just truth. Peace In.
Jacob Pennington Dude no way you dont know Layne.. He was The God of rock back in the 90s. One of the best vocalist in Rock history. Vocalist for Alice in Chains.
+Teresa Langston I think Layne would have loved his voice as well. Aaron is a huge fan of Layne's he has a song on Staind's lV cd I belive called "Layne". It is beautiful check it out it is here on youtube.
A little late but I agree. I have lost my best friend and 3 other friends in the last year. It is hard, and the music does help me. You hit it exactly. I hope you are feeling better.
What a great Tribute. I still think about how sad it is Layne is gone. The Rev and so many others. I didn't know the guys but I lost a friend 3 years ago when my wife was pregnant with our son. I'm still dealing with it. It's so hard. Music helps so much.
Layne no need to love this man ( nobody's ) vocals. people who say that dont know about Layne. He was Gifted by the curse of Pain. and those vocals that pitch wont ever can be compared .... Layne Staley was God of Vocals in Grunge ERa
You're kidding, right? Layne was Aaron's idol and he performs his music all the time with the greatest respect, and does it damn well. Ruins the song? Please, you must be deaf.
Layne definitely gave his thumbs up on this! Eddie Vedder personally complimented Lewis for his cover of some Pearl Jam classics. His secret recipe is as always, Aaron never imitates. It’s his voice, his inflections, his emotions. Remember: Aaron’s own song “Epiphany” has a very similar energy to AIC, PJ, Nirvana. I wish Aaron would just go nutty making albums with cover songs.
I'd listen to anything he sings.Hadnt waisted my time yet.sings songs my buddy's in school were to insecure to even listen to.Best friend gave me hell cause I listened to the commodores.
Okay, I'm not a Staind fan or anything, and I'm VERY MUCH a huge Alice in Chains fan... but damn, he did a really solid job on this. I guess if there were two people I would imagine to cover Layne's singing, it would be Aaron and Maynard James Keenan.
he did a good job, but you MUST hear the original!!! if you like this you will LOVE it. not to mention the music video for the song is equally amazing. go check it out....NOW! :)
I'm absolutely positive Layne's smiling way bigger about someone like Aaron who actually cared about him singing these than cheesedk Duvall, Cantrell should be ashamed if you ask me.
@Gisselle S I couldn't agree more, and the crap he does to try and play off all the issues with his upper register is awful. Especially if you are any kind of musician/singer his pitch and almost even worse and gets more extremethe higher he attempts to go, his tempo is so cringy it's hard to make it through a song. Just no control. He had enough of a voice that if he'd been properly trained he could've been a singer for someone but AIC's impressive vocals still out for amazing control so without trying to be Staley they should've found someone with range and control imo.
+joe johnson only aaron lewis can get the lyrics wrong, sing with a lisp, all but leave the band that made him, constantly walk out on crowds, and horrifically slow songs so that he can actually sing them to some degree and still have fans....i used to love listening to aaron but hes got mega douche all over him...hes like the rock jared leto when it comes to dramatizing songs
+joe johnson That's what I like....a man who is both unashamed and unafraid to be absolutely wrong abut a point, an will display that inaccurate belief in all caps, for everyone to see....letting all be sure as they can be, that he is truly intellectually lacking, and is proud of it. You go, guy. After all, 'wrong" is the new "right", it seems. Peace In. (sigh)
joe johnson covers aren't about being better it's about respecting the band go look up the song layne on staind 14 shades of grey he's just got mad respect for layne
Never been a fan of Staind....not true I guess I liked them when I was in high school....music is mostly original...baritone guitar is kind of cool. Mike just doesn't do a lot of amazing stuff with it. The content is mostly kind of whiney, although in a much more tasteful way than most whiney bands go abouts it. Anyway, I love AIC and this a great rendition of Rooster. And Aaron Lewis does have an amazing voice.

Nothing like an A hole who thinks he's knows YOUR opinion better than you do! Right?!
Layne was looking down on Aaron with a huge smile on his face
Chad Brooks who is layne. I know the song but was it inspired by someone he knew or?
Jacob Pennington Dude no way you dont know Layne.. He was The God of rock back in the 90s. One of the best vocalist in Rock history. Vocalist for Alice in Chains.
He was the lead singer of alice n chains
Jacob Pennington you really have no clue who Layne Staley was ? Educate yourself man. He was a rock icon.
He sounds like Layne at certain points... So good
Aaron Lewis fucking killed it!! Layne had such a unique sound that he can't be replicated but Aaron is fucking amazing!
Jerry sounds a lot like Layne
+Teresa Langston I think Layne would have loved his voice as well. Aaron is a huge fan of Layne's he has a song on Staind's lV cd I belive called "Layne". It is beautiful check it out it is here on youtube.
+Patty Cummins Oops it Stainds Chapter V cd.
UV films nobody sounds like layne
this man can sing anything and make it sound amazing!!
The only thing that could make these better would be if the audience was gone
You've commented on other people's comments saying it's not their fault, wtf planet are you on..
Tell me about it! When him and Corey did Nutshell they just screamed the whole time-It's like would you shut the hell up!!!
It’s every single Aaron Lewis cover video I see
I chucked
What an annoying ignorant audience. like your rude screams & singing helps at all . STFU

Layne Staley would have loved this... R.I.P. buddy
I love Aaron he's been my favorite singer of all time he's the best story telling song singer ever !!!!!!!!!!
Big power in his voice, very strong low and high range. Well done.
Making Layne proud with a big ole smile...
AIC should have hired this guy after Layne passed.. Could you imagine Jerry and Aaron doing this song?
I agree. Totally
Aaron Lewis is dogshit in comparison to Layne.
Sean Abshire you're a fucking idiot
Sean Abshire I agree Layne was a tad better but Lewis is fucking godly as well
A little late but I agree. I have lost my best friend and 3 other friends in the last year. It is hard, and the music does help me. You hit it exactly. I hope you are feeling better.
“Walking tall machine gun man” no one to mess with there. Rip to my uncle/Vietnam Veteran of the U.S. Army, 1st Cav Sgt James Meeks. Love and miss you
Amazing job!!
Those lyrics with his emotion make that hard to bear at times....heavy. 💜
BEST VOICE! GREATEST MAN EVER!
What a great Tribute. I still think about how sad it is Layne is gone. The Rev and so many others. I didn't know the guys but I lost a friend 3 years ago when my wife was pregnant with our son. I'm still dealing with it. It's so hard. Music helps so much.
I'm midway through a brutal nightshift that's sapping my will to live........then I found this while sitting between jobs.
Damn! That was beautiful
Out of nowhere i look down and nothing but goosebumps on my legs
The date Layne died is big for all of us especially Aaron, these get better every time I hear them!!!
Layne no need to love this man ( nobody's ) vocals. people who say that dont know about Layne. He was Gifted by the curse of Pain. and those vocals that pitch wont ever can be compared .... Layne Staley was God of Vocals in Grunge ERa
I gotta quit scrollin the comments. aaron's the shisniggle
Best version. Thanks for upload.
There’s nothing Aaron can’t sing. And he just murders the Alice songs like no other. AARON LEWIS FOR PRESIDENT 🇺🇸
You're kidding, right? Layne was Aaron's idol and he performs his music all the time with the greatest respect, and does it damn well. Ruins the song? Please, you must be deaf.
Aaron rules!!!

Truly a missed opportunity
Probably cause staind was doing good
Layne definitely gave his thumbs up on this! Eddie Vedder personally complimented Lewis for his cover of some Pearl Jam classics. His secret recipe is as always, Aaron never imitates. Now I see why he gets pissed at his shows.
Wow! This was good!
+patty Cummins "Layne" is actually on the 14 shades of Grey album but an amazing song none the less :-)
Great cover.
Okay, I'm not a Staind fan or anything, and I'm VERY MUCH a huge Alice in Chains fan... but damn, he did a really solid job on this. I guess if there were two people I would imagine to cover Layne's singing, it would be Aaron and Maynard James Keenan.
Leads me to no-where... but always from somewhere;)
To be able to sing like Layne is no easy feat and Aaron made it look like child's play
It's pretty easy if you have the right voice range. I can easily sing like Layne
love that song aaron does such a good job my first time hearin it i love it aarons virson good
he did a good job, but you MUST hear the original!!! if you like this you will LOVE it. not to mention the music video for the song is equally amazing. go check it out....NOW! :)
Damn he really channelled Layne during this one 👍
well we may not have Layne but god damnit we still have Aaron.... i wish like hell i had this mans voice

+Jeremy Eastcott WHEN I DO, YOU MAY BE THE FIRST ONE UP.....SEARCH YOUR SOUL. PECE.
seriouslyhe's even better live if that is possible
Holy voice
Nailed it!!
Man, you're gonna cause a riot there.
hey thanks brother!!!
Whoah, buddy. Them's fightin' words. Cantrell is probably one of the best singers in modern rock.
Damn good cover of one fuckin' amazing song!
wow!
i liked very much
hell yeah!!!!!
Layne would be smiling down dude !! \m/
WOW
pretty good
im sure he could just as chester bennington covers adele - rolling in the deep..good cover also
Why do people shout when someone is playing and singing? 'how was the concert? I dunno I was shouting I didn't hear any of it'
Soooooo good. I am a modern dancer and i did a piece to that song !!
lol put the speed on 1.25 its almost right
Andrew Feltner acoustic bud slow on purp
Andrew Feltner !!!! Fuck yea it does! It of course still has Aaron's twang, not a bad thing, but that really put it "there"! Thanks dude! 🎧
How Tom plan the rooster
You should hear his version of Nutshell.
That whistle at 0:30
0:45
Rest in peace
Fucking nailed it
😮!
layne was the lead singer of alice in chains
♡
Jeeez
@Greasemonkey1982
Sorry for your loss bud.
@ArmystrongHOOAH1 agreed
BEWARE ALL BANDS IF YOU DONT WANT YOUR SONGS SANG BETTER THAN U CAN DONT LET AARON LEWIS SANG LOL!!!!!

You go, guy. After all, 'wrong" is the new "right", it seems. Peace In. (sigh)
You're trolling, right? Guy doesn't even come close to the real shieeet.
joe johnson covers aren't about being better it's about respecting the band go look up the song layne on staind 14 shades of grey he's just got mad respect for layne
fuck u fuckboy
DuVall is great but I really think Aaron Lewis wouldve been a more suitable/similar man for the role. Hes got the grit
Agreed. This guy does some of the best AIC covers that i've ever seen.
Rob Lundgren is better for AIC frontman ua-cam.com/video/ksprqqVJwsk/v-deo.html
Are there tabs on how he plays this?
If layne and Aaron and jerry all sang together that would definitely be the equality of sex in my ears, and as a straight guy that’s saying a lot
Damn Good Idea!!! Then AIC Layne Days would return.
How did he not get bigger when he can play covers better than the bands themselves?
Never been a fan of Staind....not true I guess I liked them when I was in high school....music is mostly original...baritone guitar is kind of cool. Mike just doesn't do a lot of amazing stuff with it. The content is mostly kind of whiney, although in a much more tasteful way than most whiney bands go abouts it. Anyway, I love AIC and this a great rendition of Rooster. And Aaron Lewis does have an amazing voice.
1 Myles Kenedy!!!
2 Aaron
1.25 speed makes it bearable
NoSkillzJustGillz fuck out of here
No, DuVall is awesome.
what time?
