Berseria is my favorite Tales game and one of my favorite video games in general. I do also like how our rag tag group are people who, under normal circumstances, would never get along. But, due to what happened, they eventually come to warm up to one another. You can gradually see them getting closer, especially Velvet. From an outsider looking in, they would not see them as friends. And they be right. They are family, who happens to give each other shit when justified.
Definitely! Their ability to still bond with one another despite the big difference in their clashing personalities is one of the reasons why this is my favorite cast in the whole series. Its a nice change from the usual "best friends since birth" route the Tales games usually take.

In this found family dynamic I have labeled which each party member is. Laphicet is obviously the son that needs to be protected at all cost. Eleanor is the hired nanny who is constantly stressing over everyone's shenanigans, especially Magilou. Eizen and Rokurou are the two cool uncles, one of them fresh out of jail. Have different morals but you can't deny the bromance. Velvet, despite not having gone through a divorce, is the mom that looks after the son while dealing with crap the father left behind. Single mom raising a child, with ten times the turmoil. And Magilou is the sassy aunt. Who talks shit about everyone. Edit: Bienfu is their pet
Definitely one of the best Tales stories next to Abyss. Highly recommend that one as a well for anyone who hasn’t played it; genuinely great writing there.
Great humor, pacing, visuals and content oh and the game was fun too. Can't wait for the moment I can bingewatch your vids. When will your next vid be out?

I LOVE THIS GAME! So I bought this because I REALLY BADLY WANTED to play this! I was so blown away by the emotional story line. The first 5 to 10 hours shocked me because I've played other Tales of games and none of them were anywhere near as dark or as emotional as Berseria. Also the combat! IS AWESOME . I'm sad to say I have not completed it, but thank you for this review as I'm going to get the game and will put it somewhere I can see it and complete it! To be fair, I realllllly enjoy Tales of Arise, Symphonia, Xilia and the others which I've played but haven't finished . I have a rather large back log. But I willll complete this one! And I think after I play it, I'll want to play more Tales games. I have Vesperia and Symphonia on ps4 so I may go to those two. Or Tales of Arise. Anyway , I can tell you put a lot of work into this! :) well done!
I know I'm late as hell but with the recent Steam Summer Sale and Tales of Arise looking good (and after about 10 minutes of internet searching realizing it was one of the lowest ranked), I went to see if there were reviews that could sell me on Berseria. This one just did, buying it right now. Looking forward to more videos!
Tales of Beseria is my absolute favorite Tales game! From the combat to the characters everything just clicked for me and once i started playing it i was laser focused on completing it...that ending was a real tear jerker indeed!

This is a good and accurate review. Can't think of any point that I disagree with, Magilou is indeed the best. I've played a total of three Tales games: Vesperia, Berseria, and Arise. Vesperia was probably my favorite overall but Beseria had the best cast and story of the three. Hard to believe this came out in 2017 a year of absolute bangers though I guess the reason it got swept under the rug was being in the wake of so many great games coming out at once.

If this were a Square Soft game I’m sure Magilou would be the most annoying character in JRPG history, but this is not. This is a game series that is not afraid to have fun. I love Magilou. I just want to follow her around and hear her narrate everything she sees. ❤
I’m sorry but I fucking loved Zesteria. Sure the combat was plenty jank but after I paid attention and read into the story I fell in love with it. Every main party character was a joy to be around and while the areas were pretty mid I still fucking love the game
Oh dude Zesteria is great! I had a change of heart lol. I takes a bit to really get started but I enjoy it a lot and i'd say its in my top three fave Tales games.
I actually like the geoboard, waiter thing and bienfu bounce mini game. The Mug Man, memory game at Katz world and slide Puzzle was the worst. =_= its annoying af especially that it has a costume rewards.
While Rokurou is a little boring compared to everyone else, I think he does a great job with what the plot gives him. He spends most of the game as the muscle and comic relif being able to fill in the gaps as a straight man for silly moments, while still being plenty comedic himself. And because of his excessive laid back attitude he wastes no time building dynamics with the rest of the cast. While his character quest is easily the most boring imo. It still provides insight into the Rangetsu’s, Shigure, and how different their ideals are at the end of the day despite being family and sword wielders. He’s certainly not the standout member, but I think he’s stellar as part of the ensemble. Which is to say, Berseria has an amazing ensemble for its main and supporting cast. There wasn’t a single character I disliked and by the time I had finished the side quests and game I didn’t feel like anything was left up in the air. Partially because Zesteria did some lifting to fill in the blanks lore wise, but character wise it was all Berseria. And when I could talk about a game’s story and it’s characters for ages, that says something about the quality of them.
not me ignoring all of the random skills and enhancement bonuses for my entire playthrough in favor of getting my characters to master as many skills as possible, main way i’d play the game differently on another playthrough
Trust me the first time I played i really was just using whatever looked the coolest lol. Wasnt until my second time through that i actually started to pay attention because like... who cares about stats and enhancements when you can look cute ✨💅

think the brother sacrifice was bad in the english version? He straight up inpales laphi on his sword in the japanese version. No hover in the air fiery x thing. He just straight up stabs him. x,x. Gives a little more context to why she really lost it and hates this guy.

When making this video I scoured through the whole thing over and over again to make sure no major spoilers were shown. If anything was story related I made sure to at the very least only show footage that could be found in the games trailers to further avoid any major spoilers. That being said I do appreciate the comment and with my upcoming video and every video beyond that I will double and triple check to make sure that no spoilers slip through the cracks! And I know I bashed Andromeda juuuuust a smidge but I do have a soft spot for it. The combat is soooo smooth and I'm definitely ride or die for my girl Vetra.
You don't have to randomly hate on games to elevate others, and while I do think that Berseria is better overall zesteria is still a great game. It's the first one I played in the Tales series and it it all good charackters a stereotypical but still great told story (honestly that kind of story is so rare nowadays that it almost felt fresh) and then just everyone is hating on the game that got me into the series in the first place, symphonia could have never done that for me it feels way to clunky and aged horribly. Vesperia might have but the old style fighting system did get boring more quickly.
Videos fine but don't just full steal someone else's style. . The super butterbuns inspiration is so clear that it's distracting. I could just go watch her videos.
Prior to you mentioning her I had genuinely never heard of Super Butter Buns, so any "inspiration" you see here is nothing more than a coincidence. But I went ahead and checked her channel out anyway and she has some great stuff! I can only hope to be that good of an editor one day seriously. On top of that it was nice to see that we have very similar taste in games (KH, Persona, FF, BioShock etc). I might even end up being a fan of hers now lol. I do see a similarity in font choice/ music (both of which are common picks among content creators from what I've seen here and there mostly because 1. Alot of folks find fonts on free font sites like I did and 2. A copyright strike for music can be a pain to deal with) but as far as that is concerned I've already made a change in both of these areas for my upcoming Final Fantasy video and a few others I have planed after that. I appreciate you for giving the video a watch though!!

Zestiria is better than Berseria in every way except graphics.

IMHO its FAR from the best game for me its 1 of the WORST ones since you can't back track to EVERY AREA via teleporting/warping/going by BOAT.
