- welcome to my review / analysis / recommendation of Tales Of Berseria, An EDGY JRPG from 2016 that I finally finished all these years later, it's subversive character writing, experimental combat, and unwavering dedication to it's themes make it one of the most interesting games I've played recently. Velvet felt like one of the more justified edgelords in the cursed arm, blood soaked revenge path genre I’ve seen in a while, right there with Ragna and I feel like she’s much better after coming to terms with everything and becomes a mix of both who she was and is. Also this is one of my favorite cast, Rokurou is a bro, Aizen is an edgy nerd who cares deeply for his sister, Laphicet is a blank slate who grows into his own, Magilou is Magilou and Eleanor is tolerable despite being good and overly righteous. And I respect Artorias for being blunt about how flawed he became.
i wouldnt call Ragna edgy per se when most of his interaction he is the normal guy
I would say so,she had her brother taken brutally then cursed and imprisoned by her brother in law while (spoilers)
He makes her sister,his wife into a spirit and uses her as a tool.

This is the first Tales game I've played after having it recommended by a friend. I'm not even into JRPGs, but this blew me away entirely. Game mechanics aside (because I absolutely love the combat system in this one), the story was edgy as fuck, but still so relatable and immersive. It was a gutpunch when I finished the game and I found myself hoping it would go on for a little longer. I'd say this is a must-play, even if you don't like JRPGs!
You will find that a lot of JRPGs do this. Especially the Tales Series.
Abyss is an older one and honestly just give it a go if you can get it somehow,it's my favorite by far.
Great video! Finished the story recently and its one I'll never forget. I absolutely loved Velvet and the other characters. 11/10 story would cry again.
This was the first Tales Of game I finished after Zestiria and Hearts R didn’t do much for me (I want to love Zestiria, it’s just kinda hard to lol). In a year where Persona 5 and Nier Automata came out, I still fondly remember Berseria. Velvet is one of my favorite protagonists and this story broke my damn heart. Good shit 👍🏻
Problem with being edgy is being cringe. Love that this game characters not cringey.
Berseria is easily my favorite, arise is fun and plays great, but damn velvet is my favorite protagonist.
Master chef Vengeance seeker Velvet Crowe is one of my favorite MCs in a JRPG and it makes me sad we never got the final part of this story
My guy, the ending credits story with Velvet and Laphi is the both of them dreaming since while sealed away they can still dream which creates a world, that’s also why Phi can see it
This game stuck with me because I actually like Felt for the characters, they all played off each other so well, the skits were so well written, their interactions were always something to look forward to.
Berseria is probably one of the best written tales games that Makes me submit to the truth that the Tales series beats Final Fantasy in so many ways.
Also I have to say Eizen is my favorite Just because of the fact I'm a fan of the Harlock series, He's the Tales series Harlock

One of my favorite JRPGs
So as a newcomer to this series. I bought this game back in 2017 and just recently went back and finished it.
I loved the whole experience. The party had me hooked and I just wanted to see their interactions with the events around them. Combat was a blast once I got it down. The only thing I felt was lacking was the equipment system. I probably lost hours alone breaking stuff down and upgrading what I had but a small blemish in an overall fantastic experience.

after tumblr suggested your post about this video to me multiple times i finally decided to watch it and 👀 really solid video!! berseria is one of my fav tales games and u did a really good job of summarizing why :D hoping this inspires more people to check it out!! (also id really like to play xilia, but i never owned a ps3 and havent really looked into other ways of playing it yet :c )
Especially considering English is my first (and only) language, I find not only that the English VA is serviceable, but that disliking Velvet, Magilou, Ealanor, or Eizens VA should be a crime. So good. Arthur's actor did a great job as well. Then there's Bienfu, Toy-telz...
The voice cast is so insanely good but sometimes the script fails them
The way i understood it is enomonat is the physical part of her brother,and the one she travels with is her brothers soul reborn.
Actually, there is fast travel. I think it's either R2 or L2. It will let you teleport to most cities you visited before

@@Brotagon1st What else would you call a fast travel, teleporting right on top of the quest marker? If you want the menu and loading screen the game, then I heard starfield does it well.

This is without a doubt my favorite Tales game, and 2nd favorite game of all time. The character chemistry, story, music, gamplay...GOD THIS GAME IS AMAZING!!!
I kinda laughed at 'the sheer hype of this moment wont be lost on anyone' from the end fight.
Because I loved Berseria, although it was flawed I remember many good things about it. But I remembered nothing about the final fight xD

Agreed. Berseria has my favorite Tales cast as well, although I have only played 8 of however many there are. I very much want to play Xillia as well, but have the same issue with there not being a PC version. Could always emulate it I suppose.
This one's on my list after Arise! I need to dust off the old PS3 for Xillia though lol

Even now having played and finished almost every 3d Tales game, it's my favorite in the series, with the Xillia games in a close second,

Believe me my dude, i WANT to play Xillia, but i CANT. Ive never owned a PS3, the one time i tried the emulator im 90% sure it broke my computer, and Bandai Namco doesnt seem to realize that people will pay $$$$$ for older titles not named Symphonia being released on modern consoles. I WANT TO PLAY THE DUOLOGY, BUT I CANT 😭😭😭
I think you need to play Persona 1 or 2. they're way edgier.
there is fast travel and if you think it takes awhile to get anywhere in this game you should see zestiria lol.

One of the few Tales games I actually quit playing. Such a boring game with repetitive missions and bland world that had 3 shrubs every now and again. It seriously looks like they didn't even try with the areas. The only thing keeping me going was the story but it couldn't stop me from falling asleep during the exploration sequences. Shame really cause the story was fantastic.
I'm kinda torn between berseria and arise, while I think berseria had a better story and more interesting characters, world building and lore, I think arise has better combat, better progression, better overall design and more rewarding exploration

@@Brotagon1st Love the dynamics. And the charcters are alr so much more interesting then Arise. Not to mention Milla is just better less tsundere shion. Im getting smacked around by the systems aswell. A little slow paced but only 5 hours in. I will comment again when i finish it in like 2 weeks

Velvets a pretty cool character with an awful outfit. This games only edgy in the beginning and end though
I wanted to like this entry to the tales series. The story completely falls apart about 70% through. The ending is weak and doesn't exactly leave me feeling like the journey was worth it. The game started strong but ultimately left me disappointed over all. I honestly haven't enjoyed a Tales game since Vesperia. They need to bring back overworld maps.
Vesperia? The one without much of a story at all?
@@XrayDVD Yes. It's still a better game over all, even though its story progression starts feeling like a stroke midway through.
