I'm in a lot of pain because of some type of autoimmune arthritis,. I was prescribed Capsaicin Cream, but it did nothing for the pain after a couple of use, so I stopped. After watching this video, I'm back on it. Pain relief isn't immediately but consistent use over time works for me. I'm adding more peppers to my diet. Thanks for the education.
At ~5:20 you mention that capsaicin binds to the ion channel, on the diagram it looks like it binds from the inner part of the cell - does it? and if so - how does it pass the membrane to reach the other end of the channel?
What is the effect of prolonged exposure of Capsaicin on mucosa? Does it cause desensitization in a way that it will not cause mucus to flow even when exposed to it? Otherwise this was so helpful thank you!
Thank you! My take away: capsaicin is like a natural fat burner & appetite controller, at the cost of pain. Which seems like an easy “bring it on” to me. Is my take away decent?

This video takes me back to my bio-chemistry class.. yay 🤓
Now this is what I was looking for!!!
nature: takes centuries to develop capsaicin to keep away predators
humans: eats them anyway and loves the pain
birds: what capsaicin?
Such a great breakdown thanks for sharing
Cool video! Mind posting the sources so I can read? Thanks!

Do all peppers have capsaicin?
@@mohameda5947 didnt know black peppers were a thing tbh
Yes except for banana peppers or bell peppers
Please can I get the slide ?
I eat Tabasco sauce with everything now I'm wondering what's the chemical that makes garlic hot
Allicin. This chemical isn't released until it is crushed or cut.
